It may be the most visible nursery in Houston: easily spotted from I-10 east of downtown. Take the first exit on the east side of Beltway 8 to get there the easiest. I saw it many times on visits to H-town, planning some additions to my yard, so I made it a point to stop in. Here's the note, though: It's a garden center, not a landscape center, not an outdoor living center. They sell plants, soil, and accessories, and that's all. No fountains, no sculptures, no furniture, no bricks, no watering equipment. Well, if they focus on plants, what plants do they have? Lots of azaleas. Shrubberies. Grass. Trees, including several different palms. Fruits, veggies, & herbs. A pleasant surprise was a section of loblolly pine, a native to TX's Piney Woods. Prices are in line with similar places. But some Yelpers have reported that Houston Garden Center has many sales, but sometimes doesn't honor the lower prices. Houston Garden Center has a reasonable selection, but it pays to shop around.

She is knowledgeable, helpful, caring and friendly. I totally believe she loves her job, and gets to know her customers and their needs. When I go in there looking for something I always go to Sylvia first. She then tells me if they have it, and where it is located on the lot. If they don't have it she sees to it that it is ordered, and will even contact me when it comes in. I truly like her, and her helpful and caring customer service. Since I am a beginner Beekeeper, and love to grow much of my own vegetables, I show her some pics of what I am doing or looking for, which helps her to serve my needs better. I also find that the nursery has a tremendous selection of items that me or any novice gardener would desire or need. As a Marine Sgt. Veteran, they also give me a discount on every purchase I make. I had been putting the decision off to actually invest in palms again but their Labor Day Sale enticed me to take another look at purchasing palms. I met with Tom Ruddell who spent well over an hour with me talking about my preferences; likes and all the different kinds of palms that are freeze hardy. We toured the nursery and I was able to actually see which palms I would be able to purchase. And; I went with a variety...1 Queen Silver Palm; 2 Chinese Fan Palms and 1 pygmy Med. Fan palm. One week later and all of these palms are now in my backyard. Talk about a quick service!! Mr. Dino and the installation crew were the upmost professionals. They arrived exactly on time and asked me several times to come out and get one last look at each palm before it was covered up. For this project, I aerated and dethatched part of my front yard and it was in need of a good base layer for the soil to recover; in addition to, landscaping a front patio area. I ordered 1 1/2 Cubic Yard Leaf Mold Compost, 1/2 Yard of Landscaper mix, a few Black-eyed Susan, a Mexican Sage bush and some other pollinators. Due to the time saved from gathering all my materials from this one location saved me $$$ and I was able to complete the project in a weekend. If your need is not as expansive they offer bagged soil for smaller needs, but to get the best value I would partner with a fellow DIYers with pickup trucks and order loose materials or have it delivered on site. Nature's Way Resources also have a big selection of mulch, compost, fertilizers and offer a Green Waste Recycling program. If you read this post to the end, I will let you in on a little secret.....they have a rock garden in the rear where contractors and DIYers dump material not needed and you will find some gems for FREE. All you need to do is sign a liability waiver at the front desk and recommend you have some sturdy steel toe boots, gloves, and watch out for critters.

Nonetheless the discount environment also may lend to disorganized anf disarray. Not so much in this location, which I appreciate.
