After seeing the post on Instagram and Facebook I knew I could go there and man, was I excited! A lot of people (locals) do NOT know this either... FYI marketing social person. I went this afternoon and fell in love with the place. It's on the feeder of 45 coming into Galveston and has everything you need. It's small but mighty. And, it has such personal touches like you would at your own home; it's just soo zen. I met David and Dianna Estraca (owners who opened in 2002) and I was immediately impressed with their friendliness and customer service. They were literally hands on in their plants...and in the office, etc Diana was gardening and her husband David had just returned with supplies. All of this I saw first hand and it gave me a sense of pride for them. They appreciate everything they have and the people who patronize their business. I met Jared (horticulturalist) who is friendly, knowledgeable (and, so cute!) Ha! I did miss meeting their fun social guru, media person, Karla...because of her social media posts ...I found out the public can shop here just not wholesalers, etc A lot of lay people as myself didn't know the public can shop here...FYI I fell in love with this nursery and their people... friendly gets me each and every time. I've been a fixture at Tom's Thumb all this time (owner, Peggy Cornelius -no relation to new owners) retired this year and the small town (local feel) is gone. I used Greenscapes Lawn and Landscape for two years…read more The first year, the lawn service did a great job. That is where it all ended. The second year was a disaster. I hired them for stonebed landscaping for my frontyard. Yes, like another review, I had to put 75% deposit down for the project, and it was not cheap by any means. Now stating that, as expensive as this project was (almost $4k), the stones are starting to deteriorate. This is based on normal Texas weather. (Per the owner, these stones come from Oklahoma) The stones are pure garbage. I hired them for winter weather prevention (over $300) for my front landscaping and backyard, including three medium-size trees. Let me state, the owners son handled this project, and he did a horrendous job. He is completely incompetent. My front landscaping died. The owners son broke several branches on my trees to the point where one tree was almost destroyed. The wrapping on one tree came completely off, and later that night, I was out there on a ladder trying to re-wrap it. Let me also state that when the owners son was down with his horrendous workmanship, he forced my backgate inward, against the grain of the hinges. I could literally put my entire arm between where he forced the backgate inward and the gate post. I had to kick the backgate 3 times extremely hard with my foot to open the backgate properly. HE'S AN IDIOT. What really infuriated me (and I am putting that politely) is I have three German Shepherds, so leaving the project without notifying the customer is unacceptable. I was beyond furious with the problems he caused with my backgate, forcing it inward. What if the owners son had broken the backgate forcing it inward against the hinges and the customer was not aware? What if my three German Shepherds had got out? OH, HELL HAVE NO FURY.... I should have fired them right then, but that is my mistake. The final straw was the next summers lawn crew, which were completely different guys and utterly useless. They would show up and stand out front for 5 minutes with their arms folded, shooting the BS instead of doing their jobs. I know this for a fact, as I caught them on my Ring Doorbell. I also have three German Shepherds who have no problem telling me when someone is on their property. I was also having other upgrades completed on my house, and the crew members would knock on my door and tell me; "did you know your lawn crew is just standing out front?" Oh, when I called and complained to the owner, he called me a liar. Yes, the owner called the customer a liar. That is professionalism at its best. Personally, I find the owner to be very arrogant and condescending. Recap: Stonebed landscaping deteriorating, winter weather prevention an absolute disaster, lazy and useless crews, incompetence by the owners son, and overall attitude by the owner unprofessional and unacceptable.
