Good service. Tight street and the drivers did it really well. We are doing a cross country move of a 4 bedroom home. I wouldn't book loaders/packers on the same day as trailer drop off on either end because they tend to be later. Other than that, Pretty good so far. They dropped our 28" truck the day they said they would (original time was 11-4 but it was dropped maybe around 8pm. Pick up went smoothly. Didn't have to be present. My fiancé and I moved from Houston, TX to Columbus, OH. We have moved long distance quite a few times, I've moved from Northern Ohio to Lousiville, KY. From Kentucky to Texas and then from Houston to Katy. We've used U-haul every other time and something has always gotten broken. I've had to replace dressers, couches, entertainment centers, etc. I cannot speak highly enough about U-pack! Everything was super easy, the drivers were incredibly nice & helpful, and ALL of our stuff arrived unscathed. Not to mention, there was crazy weather (tornados & crazy rain) while our cubes were in transit- and they still were safe. The time approximations were accurate, and they were incredibly easy to work with. We had plenty of time to pack and didn't have to stress like we did with U-haul, and we were able to fit our 4 bedroom home (we did sell some stuff) into 2 cubes! We were quoted 15,000 by a lot of the other competitors. We didn't want to have to pay that much. We spent under 5000 to move our whole place. I wrote a review of the Albuquerque U-pack, but since the Houston U-pack was the destination, I figured I should post here also. I short, the price was right and the service was excellent. I was anticipating an ordeal, but things could not have gone better than they did. Everyone was super efficient and courteous. Some things to help (from my other review and for this one)... - good communication is important, don't be afraid to call them - someone has to be there to accept delivery of the cube at either end, but you don't have to be there for them to pick it up at either end - follow their videos about packing. You have to go vertical to get the most out of the space provided. - be sure to use lots of padding. I used a lot of old cardboard boxes and got a big roll of bubble wrap. I also used some old blankets and towels. - I also used some small ratcheting tie downs inside. Inside the cube are lots of rails in the walls with slots to attach tie downs. Careful packing, padding and tie downs helped everything arrive pretty much just as I packed it. I didn't have any damages. This experience was so smooth that I will likely use these guys again in the future, should I need to do a small or a large move. read more

Their service was easy to use and updates were frequent. There weren't any hidden fees or up-charges. They showed up and dropped off as promised, was quoted 6-8 business days, they were here on day 6. The dashboard was super easy to use and you can schedule things right there. I was quoted 15k to move our 3 bedroom house from Cali to Texas, the 4 relocubes cost me $6400. I will say if you have a lot of stuff get the extra cube at drop off, if you don't use it they'll take it back n/c and we def ended up needing it. We even left stuff behind we wanted to take. U-Pack moved my 4 bedroom house from Houston TX to Missouri. The truck showed up on time and was packed by Pack Dat, referred by U-Pack. Pack Dat did an excellent job. The U-Pack truck arrived in Missouri a week later, as promised. It was unpacked by L&J movers, who also did a good job. All in all: U-Pack performed as promised at a price well below the competition. The packers/unpackers referred by U-Pack also did a great job. The price charged by the packers/unpackers were bit high for my liking, but given their performance, I would hire them again. read more

He also gave me some wonderful tips and advise for loading them. The cubes arrived very early in the estimated delivery window which was great as it allowed me to better schedule house delivery and unpackers. The cubes were picked up exactly as promised on the day I asked for them to be. The only negative was that I did not order enough cubes, but I think that's my fault since I ended up having more crap than I anticipated...lesson learned!!! Using my UPack to move from CA to TX was a breeze. Scheduling my container to be dropped off has been somewhat of a nightmare, especially as an apartment dweller. When I finally found an apartment in TX, I attempted to call and schedule my drop off appointment on my lunch break. However, because that process took longer than expected, I had to call them back. Before I hung up, I asked the lady when they closed and she said "5". WHAT?! How am I supposed to call and schedule if I'm working during that time?! The next day, I try again and asked to have it shipped to my place the next day in the evening. They said that because I am calling the day before, it was "whenever the driver was available". Even utility companies give you better time estimates than that. I end up having to cancel and am forced to cancel my delivery because I'm tied up at work and I have no access for drop off because I'm the only adult available. HOWEVER when I call to reschedule, Virgil states that per company policy, he can't allow me to reschedule because my case is "under review". I just want my box to be dropped off and be done with this whole mess. Will never use them anymore. read more

The upack arrived at my home I packed it up and Jim the driver went out of his way to get it picked up as my house was sold and we needed it picked up before the new owners arrived for a walk through. Things you should know upfront about my move with U-Pack: 1. I did not use a packing service. I chose to pack all my belongings myself. In doing so, I used new boxes from 1/2 Price Boxes. Over 100 boxes (including a few $$ custom ones and some art boxes), paper, bubble wrap, tape, and fragile/this end up stickers cost a little over $300. PACKING CORRECTLY MAKES IT MUCH LESS LIKELY FOR YOUR ITEMS TO BE DAMAGED. This means use strong, high-quality moving boxes, not liquor store boxes. For valuable items like big TVs, *SAVE YOUR ORIGINAL BOX* - they are the absolute best for moving. 2. I did not use the U-Pack pods, instead opting for space in a trailer. I gave U-Pack a detailed list of the contents so they could accurately estimate the space needed in the trailer (13' in my case). Even packed tightly, we just barely made it. Hire professional movers to pack your items (check here on Yelp, don't use Moving Staffers). You'll be glad you did. 3. U-Pack is a division of ABF, a nationwide trucking company. If you get space in a trailer, you are agreeing to have your items trucked along their normal distribution route. This means it doesn't go straight from your old house to your new one. I moved from Houston to Pensacola (literally one road, I-10), but my trailer went to Arkansas and Georgia before coming back down to Pensacola. Drivers are not always available to haul trailers, either. This is how trucking logistics work. If you have a hard deadline, this is not the moving system for you. Okay, on to my review! Truly stellar customer service from U-Pack from beginning to end. I moved over 600 miles, and they answered all of my questions, provided a great rate, and were imminently flexible. The real standouts though were the drivers. Especially Chris (?), a driver trainer who picked up my loaded trailer after packing. The guys who packed it weren't the greatest (NOT U-Pack's fault, I hired poorly), and when Chris saw what they'd done, he went above and beyond to protect my items, even to the point of re-arranging some so they wouldn't get damaged AND using an extra load-lock, just in case. I had a good experience picking up my household goods that I shipped from Virginia. I know people are always curious as to how much it is to ship your house out of state. I rented storage space in a trailer and it was 747 for 5 feet of space. 5 feet is the minimum amount you can get. I originally had reserved 7 feet and I was so excited when the inspector came to finalize the paperwork and I had only used 5 feet! This was an EXCELLENT DEAL. I called the facility when I arrived in town and they had my trailer ready for my movers to get started unloading it when we arrived. Everyone I dealt with at this facility was pleasant. read more

For the money this is a good service. Our biggest issue was communication The driver parked at another house, not number we provided. Luckily, my sister was home and flagged him down. After loading the pod, my sister called a few hours before the deadline and was assured that if she called the next morning, they would pick up the pod to start the journey to another state. However when she called early the next morning, the move team at the office would not honor what she had been told. They could have picked up on a Friday but they made us wait until Monday. Then, when it got to the other state, instead of delivering the next business day, (Monday) they made my brother wait until Tuesday. I utilized two pods to help my mom move from CA to TX at a cost of over $3,100. The pods took longer than expected. The pods were scheduled to arrive 8am to noon on specific day, they arrived late. One of the pods arrived with a damaged lock and could not be opened. UPack was not helpful nor was their freight carrier ABF. I had to go out myself and buy bolt cutters and break in to get my stuff. That took another day to do. On a move of over $3,100 they offered to now pay for the bolt cutters and give me $20 for my time (that's a .64% discount). Best household moving company!! So impressed with the staff at ABF Upack. The day of my move a a full service moving company from hell showed up at my door in Houston and told me my estimate is wrong and my cost will be 40% higher. Luckily I had some leeway and did not need to move that day. The company owner was surprised by my decision not to use their service assuming I was trapped. Back to the drawing board, I stumbled on ABF Upack when googling. I could not have been happier! The customer service reps on their toll free number were so helpful, upbeat and professional. The very next day a trailer was delivered to our home. We had to pack the trailer ourselves which was not a problem. A bulkhead used to separate cargo can be locked. The remaining space is used for commercial shipments. Therefore, there is only one household move is on a trailer eliminating any confusing of ownership. When we finished loading, the driver returned to pick up the trailer. My goods were on their 1,400 mile journey. I could track my goods trip using their website. A nice little perk! On the delivery end, we met the nicest gentleman, who was the driver, named Eugene, a.k.a, Junior from this Chesapeake location. I cannot give this person enough praise! He was the driver that delivered my goods in Williamsburg, VA. Very personable and professional with high energy!. Because of Junior, ABF will be the first company I call for my next move. ABF offers to options to move which I did not know until I called. One is UPack and the other is a trailer. The first option is you pay by the cube. The other second is you pay by usage on a trailer. In my case, this was, by far, the least expensive option. It is worth checking both options when doing your homework. Again, thank you ABF for your exceptional service. We had 2 containers delivered on Friday. Packed them up and had them ready to be picked up on Monday. We made sure to secure everything so that it would not shift with the move. They picked up the containers on Monday. It was going from Magnolia, TX to Pottstown, Pa and made the move in less than a week. Picked up Monday and delivered Friday. Nothing was broken!! Kept us informed on the tracking of the containers. I would use them again for sure. read more

2 stars only because UPack/ABF themselves did a good job, but ONLY 2 stars because their contracted company, Moving Staffers is awful, unprofessional, does not keep promises, and is accusatory to their customers of lying. We had an awful experience with Moving Staffers booking our packing and loading. They sent a crew called Johnson Moving & Storage in Maryland, to pack us up for our 3000 mile move to California. Johnson M&S sent a crew of 3, the lead's name was Carl and he smelled like alcohol. I doubted my sense of smell though, because neither my husband nor friend could tell if the odor was body odor or alcohol. Long story short, I was in contact with Moving Staffers throughout the day and told them things were going "sort of OK" since they didn't bring the supplies for an expensive TV carton for our 54" tv, and that the crew showed up really late and was at least packing (for the first couple hours). At about 6 PM, Carl went missing. I went to look for him. I told the other 2 that I couldn't find him anywhere. Why would he go missing on our property? Amy (his wife) went to go look for him, and later came back saying he was sleeping in the truck because he didn't feel well. She gave me about 4 different excuses for him throughout the day "Heart failure" "needs his prescription medication filled," "he has food poisoning from outback steakhouse last night" and "he gets dehydrated." She refused paramedics that I offered, saying "water and wet paper towels will make him better" I'm a nurse, so hearing "heart failure" I knew couldn't be true - if he was lying down in the car that's not good, since lying down makes it harder to breathe with heart failure. You also have a fluid restriction if you have heart failure, and shouldn't be a manual worker in hot summer months. If you've got heart failure, you don't drink up a lot of water or else you'll fluid overload your heart. Anyway, the fragmented stories made me suspicious. Amy was also stumbling around the house as she tried to walk, in the last couple hours, from about 6-8 PM. She gave me fragmented stories about why she couldn't walk straight (a car accident to avoid a collision with a deer, getting road rash that she was "allergic, because it was bad rash" which anyone knows road rash is not a legit rash. She started talking about some other girl who got in a car accident with road rash and trailed off onto that story... I called Moving Staffers and Johnson and I got no answer because their offices closed at 5 PM. Their supervisor Curtis was impossible to reach because he only called from the office phone #, and none of the movers had working phones to get ahold of him. I called U-Pack and I spoke with Lindsey (I think it was Lindsey) who was very nice. I was crying on the phone because I had to sneak out of the house to a neighbor's in order to call and complain, for concern that if we were overheard, that the movers would steal, damage, or otherwise ruin our belongings. She gave us a $75 credit for the stress, but that was all she could do because Moving Staffers isn't their company. In the end, the supervisor Curtis called my cell phone to ask if the crew was still there. I recapped the entire story. He immediately came to our house and kicked the crew out, chastising them for not finding a way to call him if Carl wasn't feeling well. He said he would send a new crew out the next day. Moving Staffers attempted to CHARGE US for day #2 with a new crew! Moving Staffers told me they would compensate us for dealing with this unprofessionalism with Johnson M&S. But they gave me the runaround for 3 weeks and ultimately sent me a final receipt including all the costs. I urge you to cut your ties with Moving Staffers, because they are awful and disrespectful. Angela, the supervisor, told me that she would "investigate further, to see if that actually did happen" but that it was MY FAULT that I didn't call them the second I suspected alcohol, and that I should've kicked them out when I thought they were intoxicated. Excuse me? Telling your customer all the things they "should've" done, and insisting on the full charges for the move, instead of holding your company accountable? And what happened to "the customer is always right"? You really think I am LYING about this whole scenario, where my calls are logged, notes were taken that I reported this behavior. Do we need to subpoena the call logs, really? This is really inexplicable customer service. U-Pack, I would actually like to use you in the future, but I would NEVER use Moving Staffers, because they are insulting, rude, and unprofessional. read more

I recently needed to move from Houston to northern NY State. I used the ReloCube option, and that worked out very well. One cube was plenty for what I salvaged after I cleaned out my flooded apartment. Delivery was perfect, and I had 4 days (weekend included) to pack. The only negative was that I had to drive to their facility in Vermont with a Uhaul truck to get my belongings. (they will drop the Cube off at your location if you live near one of their hubs, but my destination was a small town in the mountains) The staff at the VT facility were very helpful. I think the price was fair; I did not want to drive a truck 2000 miles, so I'm pleased with my experience. read more

Absolute WORST service I've ever received! I moved halfway across the country the beginning of this month from Fayetteville, NC to Houston, Texas. It was a big move so I wanted to go with a company that provided great service as well as peace of mind. This company seemed like a great choice at the time, but once it was time to get things going everything that could've gone wrong did. The cube was supposed to be picked up on the 6th of this month, it didn't happen for weeks! The freight company UPack hired to pick it up claimed their forklift was stuck in mud so they wouldn't be able to pick up. A week and a few days go by and no one had called to give me an update so I called myself to see what was going on. No one could tell me the status of my relo-cube. A few minutes went by and someone called back to tell me that it had been picked up and would be on its way by the end of the day (false). Before Thanksgiving someone called and asked if I knew whether or not the cube had been picked up because his guys had been having issues getting access to the neighborhood. By this time I had already been in Houston for a few weeks. I called the company to complain about how long it had been and how I didn't appreciate not knowing where my things were. I was talked down into believing something was going to be done about this, only to have my things arrive nearly a month after it was supposed to, and a small credit to knock the price down. These people still charged me full price for this nonsense. They don't even have storage options so I'm going to have to figure out a way to get my things on my own. Save yourself the headache, go with another company! They guarantee "quality service" and "great customer care" it's all b.s. *Update* Someone reaches out to me privately about this review shortly after I posted it making it seem as if something was going to be done about this. Instead I was given a generic email to speak with a customer service representative, who couldn't do anything for me and redirected me to someone in the "Operations" department. Days went by until today I received an email from someone at the terminal here in Houston stating that I was about to be charged fees for my cube still being there while waiting for UPack. So I called myself to see what else could be done and the Supervisor declined to offer any additional assistance. So now I'm paying damn near full price, missed out on a job opportunity waiting for ABF freight to pick my cube up, played cat and mouse tracking my things in my own, and given the run around for WEEKS. I'm so pissed off and disappointed right now. Do NOT use UPack!! read more

We used the ABF U pack service to move from Galveston to Chicago. The trailer was filthy dirty and leaked water. The cost was very affordable and the turn around was efficient but they did not pack or unload and recommended Moving Staffers to hire the packers. Everything was prepaid and now we are out all of our damaged furniture as well as what we paid to the movers. We are going to have to sue these companies. When I called ABF regarding the damage they transferred me several times until I was connected with someone who said the insurance claim process started on the website. read more

We used UPack Late November 2015 to move from Houston, TX to Fishers, IN. We ordered three storage units which fit comfortably on our single car driveway in Houston. We only used two pods in the end because we stuffed every square inch of that thing. They only charged us for two storage units because we didn't need the third. I believe the cost is $200 per storage unit and the remainder of cost is travel, so where you move to. Our trip was just over $1000 for two pods from Texas to Indiana. Customer service is incredible for this company. Our pod arrival date initially was December 1st, when our pods arrived earlier than expected to Indianapolis, we immediately got notice we could have them the day before thanksgiving. That saved us from eating our turkey dinner on the floor. Thank you. Some suggestions: 1. You need to order locks from UPack to lock the doors, I recommend putting the locks on the right side door. 2. You will need rope, bubble wrap, packing paper, and straps. Everything needs to be secure, be sure to have extra cardboard or towels or even sheets and pillow cases or blankets to put between the furniture and the straps to not cause wear. The pods go through a rough journey but if you pack like we did you will have no issues with things breaking. There are tons of support points in the pod to hold things together. 3. Practice knots, go google knots and figure out the easiest ones to untie that still hold strong. 4. They will say this, but don't use anything other than cardboard boxes. Plastic shatters. I recommend asking your local liquor store for boxes. Most of the cardboard they get in shipments are designed to hold handles of alcohol, great for storage, or tear out the separators and use it as a regular box 5. write down the POD numbers in as many places as you need to. 6. Get a dolly. It is your best friend loading and unloading from a pod that is slightly taller than the ground. 7. If you are in a major city with minimal driveway space, contact your city to see if pods can be stored on the street, you don't want to come home to a ticket or worse, it's been removed with all your things inside. If you have no place at your house, rent a space at a storage place for an RV. Yes, you have to have another step of driving your boxes and furniture, but it will be cheaper still in the end, and less stressful than driving a Uhaul cross country. 8. Furniture. If it can be taken apart at all, do it. It saves so much space in the pod. We didn't realize our antique dining table came apart until we tried, and it fit nice and snug. 9. You can keep the pod for three days. It arrives Tuesday, they pick it up Friday. Etc etc. Good luck with your move! read more

I recently moved from Houston to Boston. Because I wasn't moving directly into a new house, I needed a mover that could store my belongings in the truck, rather than have me pay for movers to put my stuff in and out of a storage facility. ABF and U-Pack movers were excellent. I researched them extensively on-line and reserved my move on-line. The truck showed up exactly when promised. I hired the movers from the ABF website and was contacted by the local rep. They gave me guidelines, which I was sure to follow, to make the move easier, such as purchasing my own supplies. The movers were fantastic. There were two men who were very professional, kind to my children and easy to talk with. They packed the truck like an intricate puzzle. I was advised to purchase additional freight insurance, which I forgot to do. The truck came to my new house at the time I specified. Only one item was damaged in the long cross-country trip. It will not be costly to repair. ABF picked up the trailer when I had unloaded it. The cost of the move was approximately half of what I was quoted from traditional movers. I was very happy with ABF and U-Pack movers and recommend them to anyone. read more

Jim, the man who dropped off the unit was fantastic and was very helpful with moving tips. Unfortunately, we were given the wrong information regarding pick up and delivery times. "Some of us work 24/7, if you want to change pick up times for Monday, just call Sunday." Well go figure, no one is there over the weekend. And even when you call first thing on Monday, they still won't be able to pick it up until the next day. They adverstise themselves as affordable, but it's seeming like U Pack is equivalent to Spirit Airlines. We didn't have the greatest customer service with anyone else we interacted with after Jim. At the end of the day, you'll probably pay the same as their other competitors for less than stellar service. read more

I recently moved from Birmingham (AL) to Houston. U-Pack was the most affordable option for me (that didn't involve me driving a large U-haul truck). I did the door-to-door service, and the cube arrived in my origin and destination cities right on time. I chose U-Pack over Pods because they were able to get my order fulfilled the week after I initially called them. I was able to fit almost my entire one-bedroom apartment in one cube. That's a full bedroom set and living room set, along with about 7 boxes. My dining room set didn't fit, but I wasn't planning on bringing it anyway. I thought the Moving Staffers service they recommended was too expensive, so I managed to get other professional loading/unloading help for a much better price. My only complaint is that you can't tell them what time on the designated days would be best for them to drop off the cube. They are supposed to call you an hour before they arrive at your place. So when my cube arrived in Houston, they called me and said my cube would be there in an hour, but then the driver called just 10 minutes later to tell me he was already there. So I had to rush over, but the driver was very friendly and willing to wait. One more thing to keep in mind is that they are closed on Saturdays, and only have limited staff available on Sundays. We had a great experience. Every time we called U-Pack or ABF they were very friendly, helpful and quick. We packed at the service center which was very easy and then had the pod delivered to our house. The delivery was on time, nothing was broken/ruined and they picked up the pod the next day. It was definitely much cheaper than the other options, but the service was fantastic. I would highly recommend U-Pack for cross country moves.
