From my first conversation with his front office staff, specifically Ashley, I knew we were in the right spot. The time she took to explain in detail everything we needed to do to transfer over his records and referrals, made what is typically an extremely difficult task seamless. Her kindness and empathy towards my husband's situation I appreciated more than anything, and her detailed and clear instructions made switching hospitals a breeze. I am known to call with multiple questions and each time the receptionists were nothing but patient and helpful. Working in the medical field myself, I was concerned about my husband going on his own to his initial appt with Dr. Chen. Those concerns diminished when he came home visibly relieved to be in such great hands. Dr. Chen, besides being extremely knowledgeable, was warm, thoughtful, and took the time to answer all of my husbands (and my own) questions and concerns. He is not a doctor that just checks off all the boxes, he goes above and beyond to make sure that we are comfortable with our decision to proceed with surgery. Arlin was a godsend with making our appointment for surgery, making sure that we had everything in order, so that we could focus on preparing for the surgery itself. The staff are nothing but caring and compassionate. To the negative reviews about wait times and rude receptionists. Could not be further from the truth. The receptionists are exceptional and besides being a leader in his field, Dr. Chen is professional, empathetic, honest, and dedicated to making sure your surgery is a success. If your appointment was cancelled due to him being in an urgent surgery, I would keep in mind that if it was a loved one of yours experiencing a trauma that you would want a doctor with the expertise of Dr. Chen to be at their side. I understand the frustration of a cancelled or rescheduled appointment but if it is due to a doctor saving someone's life, I would suggest having some empathy and understanding, not jumping online to leave an undeserved negative review. If you want to be confident knowing that you are in the best possible hands look no further, Dr. Chen and his entire office is where you want to be.

In very unfortunate timing, I experienced a medical emergency and was being rushed to the ER during the time of the phone visit in a tremendous amount of pain. I told him the situation and his response was, "I spent a lot of time and effort reviewing your labs, don't you want to hear what I have to say?" He only got worse from there. I basically put him on speaker and let him talk into the void while I waited for him to shut up so I could end the call, and for the car to arrive at the hospital. I ended up having emergency surgery shortly after being admitted to the hospital. It's not about the money for a wasted appointment; it's about him being deplorable. Listen to the other reviewers who mention that this guy is rude and combative.

When she was first admitted to the ER back in February and she expressed to him she didn't want to do dialysis anymore he said "well I don't believe in suicide". Super professional and compassionate when I asked him about her being assessed for hospice care and continuing dialysis he said no that can't be done even though I've been told by her home health care company she can. He then said to me he doesn't have time to be on the phone with me to answer my "basic" questions. Which I then told him that these questions we have are not basic to us since this is a new situation and very stressful situation we are now dealing with. I was upset and expressed my frustration with how we have just been bounced around from hospital to doctor with no answers no guidance and no help with getting her the care she needs. Please see my photo. A text from my brother who spoke with Phillip Ng yesterday at my mom's dialysis appointment where she is still exhibiting signs and behaviors of mental decline and suffering. When my brother explained we want to have her assessed for hospice care with dialysis continued those were his responses. I did not feel like I was treated with kindness, empathy or compassion from Susanna, and it made every administrative task to get an appointment stressful. Example: I called in to cancel an appointment three business days in advance due to being potentially scheduled for jury duty that week. I was asked to hold the phone call, then hung up on. Then when I dialed back, I was berated, and accused of doing this consistently. Three business days is very reasonable given my civil duty, which I may be criminally liable for if I do not show up for jury duty. I asked Susanna if there was a written policy that forbids clients from canceling three business days in advance. She said no. (Lots of question marks on why I was treated that way. Oh well, moving on.) I hope this feedback serves as a wake-up call for the doctor's office to address the shortcomings in their administrative staff and improve the overall patient experience. I doubt there will be positive changes within the customer care, given comments say Susanna is his wife. Until then, I'll be seeking medical care elsewhere.
