Smacked down on wonderful Sixth Street Shop 24 is a staple of the street, without it, doors would closed, people would die, the World would quite possibly end. As the previous reviewer mentioned this store really does have everything you could ever need. Besides being a DJ down on Sixth I also install sounds systems in the clubs and on more than a hundred occasions I have needed some emergency item and no matter how weird it was I always seem to find it there. Obviously the prices are a little higher, but hey your paying for the convenience!! The people who work there are very cool, the selection is amazing, they never close and it's pretty much the best place on Earth. ONLY problem is the bums, vagrants, drug addicts, idiots and beggars who like to hang out in the entryway at night. They are annoying, harassing and it's still against the law to shoot them or at least tie them up and recycle them. It's not the stores fault, it's the city's fault, well AND it's the fault of all those idiots who give them change, cigarettes, or even make eye contact with them. It just perpetuates the cycle.

I used to stop in every morning for coffee and a package of almond windmill cookies. They have everything you'd expect from a convenience store, and a whole lot more. I'm so sad that they no longer sell fried chicken, nor do they have tables any more. I think the homeless messed that up for us. But a big cup of Folgers coffee is still just $1 (keep your burned, bitter Starbucks crap!) and you can buy a straw hat, rawhide whip, shot glass and personalized license plate key chain all in the same place. Need a pair of board shorts, a Hawaiian shirt, sandals and socks? Got it. Can't find a scorpion in a glass ball? Look no further. Need a single battery? There's a bucket of batteries for a quarter each. Longhorns paraphernalia? Of course. They might sometimes seem a bit short with you, but it's a cultural thing. These guys are awesome and really care about you. It's the ONLY store I will shop at when downtown.

I had no engagement with staff while in the store so can't comment on that bit. I took a Waymo so can't comment on parking either but I was a little confused at first by the different set up here. They have 2 stories! So if you're looking for something and don't see it on the first floor, head up the stairs and it'll probably be there. They do have an elevator, as well, if needed. By the registers, they have 3 Self Checkouts for easy self-serve shopping. One staff was monitoring the operations but it was a seamless experience for me. You just gotta keep in mind you are downtown so you may encounter unhomed people and all that comes with that.

They do offer some hot breakfast items and pizza slices along with some grab and go items, including donuts. They have a decent wine selection, and I was surprised the prices were not exorbitant. One yelper mentioned that homeless people will confront you at the entrance and that was true on my visit as well. They have an ATM inside along with a machine to copy keys. You'll see the usual weenie rollers and a modest coffee bar as well. If you're looking for a better food offering, try the royal blue grocery 20 feet away from their door.

I've seen some of the items they sell here at Trader Joe's for eg but they have a lot of otherwise unique stuff. They do sell premade stuff as well, I saw someone sampling something at the counter. This isn't a big place and because it's more upscale things ARE more expensive here, I'd never do routine grocery shopping here. But if you're passing by, you can reliably find a native Austin beer, quick meal, unique snack, etc.

Contrary to another review, they usually have fresh fruit on hand; bananas in a basket and prepared fruit cups. They have a fair selection of beer, wine, soft drinks and coffees. They have sandwiches and other prepared food (e.g. giant $4 burritos) in the cooler. One time I had to ask for toilet paper and the guy brought it out from the back room. I suppose it took up too much space on the shelf. This is the alternative to Royal Blue, which has even higher prices, although Royal Blue makes some food in-house. On the whole, I prefer Second Street because Royal Blue has a weird vibe and some weird brands and this place is a regular store.

Honestly unremarkable. An independent convenience store that knows it can charge more because of where it is. The staff were friendly enough, but the stock was kind of limited. That might be due to so many people being in town that week but they seemed to run out of drinks fairly quickly. It's also no fault of the store but it's worth mentioning right in front of their doors seems to be a popular hangout for Austin's homeless. I don't think we managed a single visit here without being asked for change. If you need a quick snack they are in a great location, just don't expect an overly pleasant visit.

While some items can be a bit pricey, the quality of the products, the cleanliness of the store, and the excellent customer service make it well worth the cost. Prices seemed fair for what they sold and you can tell a few locals who frequent the shop have a great rapport with the staff. If you want more than a bag of Lays (and find yourself in need of an Austin shot glass), look no further. I went during a Beto rally thing and it was PACKED, line around the entire store. Cashiers did their thing quickly and with reasonable cheer. However, my complaint is with the break system - I read owner responses explaining why the store shuts down for shift change, and I get it, but it reaaaalllly nulls the "convenience" aspect. After said Beto rally, a crowd rushed over at 11:20 to get beer before midnight. Maybe 10-12 of us decided against finding an alternative (there's not another store super close by) and stood outside waiting for the doors to be unlocked after the shift change. It took like 20+ minutes. As we are all desperate to get our booze. I also went to get gas recently and the screen read "pump has been shut off." I figured it was faulty, and then saw other confused drivers standing around, not pumping gas... oh, right, the shift change. I spent my money elsewhere because that is ridiculous. I understand the break helps the store run more efficiently kind of, but I've never encountered a gas station that makes customers wait like that. I'll go elsewhere.

This is a great place to stop in for a beer to go. There's always action going on around here. From people sleeping and fighting in the parking lot, to the Austin cops hanging out with a mobile DWI checkpoint. It's never boring around here. The beer selection isn't great, or cheap, but they've got big coolers and the location is excellent. I've learned to stay away from the car wash here. Not only is it a bit on the smelly side, but it often doesn't work.
