SoCo weird! This is one of the busiest, weirdest gas stations I've ever been in. Be sure to check out the mural of the gas station, right in front of the gas station. The gas station seems to be paired with a mural of Stevie Ray Vaughn's statue, which is right down the road. It's a fun mural of the building it's painted on. Meta! This is a great place to stop in for a beer to go. There's always action going on around here. From people sleeping and fighting in the parking lot, to the Austin cops hanging out with a mobile DWI checkpoint. It's never boring around here. The beer selection isn't great, or cheap, but they've got big coolers and the location is excellent. I've learned to stay away from the car wash here. Highly disappointed and disturbed. I'm a 43 yo man, and I do my best to respect rules and am respectful of people (apologize when i'm not). I live only seconds away from this store. Tonight, I went in to buy a bottle of wine (completely forgot my mask--kept my shirt over my face the entire time), and I apologized throughout the entire 3 mins I was there. I realized the rule and thanked the guy for it. I mentioned that I come here a lot in my truck where I carry my mask when heading home (The Crescent Apartments). *I am pro-active in ensuring I don't contribute to Covid19.* As I as checking out (per receipt 10.25/6.23.20), I looked at the screen for my dollar amount ($13 something), inserted my Citi bank debit card. The girl with a black ponytail (I think she may had glasses but I really couldn't see her face) looked at the guy with the clear rim glasses, and his response was"I was going to let him thru." She made a sigh as she went to count out her till behind him facing the wall. That's when things got rude. He was really nice until then. I asked for my receipt. You could tell the guy was uncomfortable. "Oh you want the receipt now?" He handed me the receipt and as my back was facing the front door, I wished them a good night. The girl with the ponytail said "Yea, sure. Whatever." And, my immediate response was well, have a good night. Then the guy with the glasses raised his right hand in the air and said "byeee byeee byeee byeee" which was dismissive adding rudeness. I wasn't expecting these two. There are other's that are really polite and respectful at this store. They are very customer-service focused and even share parts of themselves with the customers. Those are the employees that create the regulars. As for the two tonight, I wished that Thom's Market was open. Thom's has been very consistent in service and are really nice compared to these two. Due to the current environment, I wonder if they were being rude, or being agist (a lot of silver in my beard). If I could rate this place with NO stars, I would! There are several issues at this location! 1.) The pumps operate very slowly, it takes 15 minutes to fill your tank, literally!! 2.) Do Not Use Pump #8, it has no SHUT OFF VALVE! Very Dangerous! So, if you're distracted waiting to fill your tank because it's taking an ion, make sure you're keeping an eye on the nozzle as it will NOT automatically shut off and definitely will create a Haz Mat situation with gasoline gushing out everywhere. Not to mention the wasted gas and money pouring out onto the concrete! 3.) There are NO experienced employees to deal with such a situation even if you report the circumstances to them, Neve mind, they are completely minimum wage, CLUELESS hires! 4.) It's Best just to avoid this gas station, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! PS. Good luck trying to access the restroom, evidently, it's saved for the morning employees' preparation and constitutional. The location is good, in the midst of a popular area right near downtown. I imagine this is why the item selection is a little more elevated than your average Chevron - fancier snacks, wider range of wine, craft-y sodas. If you want more than a bag of Lays (and find yourself in need of an Austin shot glass), look no further. I went during a Beto rally thing and it was PACKED, line around the entire store. Cashiers did their thing quickly and with reasonable cheer. However, my complaint is with the break system - I read owner responses explaining why the store shuts down for shift change, and I get it, but it reaaaalllly nulls the "convenience" aspect. After said Beto rally, a crowd rushed over at 11:20 to get beer before midnight. Maybe 10-12 of us decided against finding an alternative (there's not another store super close by) and stood outside waiting for the doors to be unlocked after the shift change. It took like 20+ minutes. As we are all desperate to get our booze. I also went to get gas recently and the screen read "pump has been shut off." I figured it was faulty, and then saw other confused drivers standing around, not pumping gas... oh, right, the shift change. I spent my money elsewhere because that is ridiculous. I understand the break helps the store run more efficiently kind of, but I've never encountered a gas station that makes customers wait like that. I'll go elsewhere. read more

I had been circling downtown in vain for a car tire air station in working order. Fail and fail at gas stations near Seventh and I 35. Then I tried this Chevron where I found a friendly clerk who cheerfully made change so I could pop 4 quarters into the tire air machine and then loaned me, without my asking, a tire gauge so I could check pressures. Attitude and service matter! I'll remember and I'll be back. read more

After a long day at work During Coronavirus I rushed to this location to get beer. At 11:54 I walked into the door and the beer isle was chained up. The regular young stocker employee immediately told me "it's past midnight." I just left because I don't like to argue. I really dont like this store. The employees are pretty friendly but there are so many situations i have run into at this location that are not cool such as incorrect prices on labels for tobacco, everything in the store is unlabeled so you dont actually know how much you are spending, their card reading machines suck and dont allow you to pay credit with a chip card. there tend to be shady people that hang out here. Why write about a gas station?? Because this isn't just any gas station it's the closest gs to where you can grab a drink and heard over to the bridge to watch the bats. I was viciously harassed by an employee here with a long red beard. He initiated the conversation with me--i.e. it was totally unprovoked--and when I didn't agree with what he said, ended it by telling me he hoped I got hit by a car and then strongly implying that he'd love to watch me die slowly on the street were that to occur. OMFG, it's 12:45 Saturday night/Sunday morning and you're out of booze! WTF are you gonna do? If you're like everyone else within a ten-mile radius (who isn't still out drinking downtown), then you go to Riverside Chevron. The line at this place at ten to one, or ten to 12 on Fridays, is both consistently entertaining and entertainingly consistent. HEB and the smaller convenience stores are all closed, so EVERYONE at the Chevron is there for the beer and wine. Whether you're in a group making an early exit from downtown, on your way home from second shift, or (like me) an anti-socialite who prefers to get your drink on at home watching a movie with your dog, you will find your comrades in arms at the Riverside Chevron. Details: beer and wine (!) selection is nothing special, but still better than your typical convenience store. The store and its exterior are well-lit, but given its location and the frequently impaired condition of the clientele, it's wise to keep your head on a swivel late at night. It can get crowded during the last call rush inside, and outside can be a nightmare to navigate as drunken fools fill up their cars and go on their weavy ways. Fights, confrontations, and panhandlers are not uncommon--basically what you'd expect from a convenience store in the shadow of downtown. read more

Rude attendant the other day when I was filling up. The pump was crawling along...it was way slower than normal. I went in to inform the dude behind the counter & he quickly said the pumps are all just fine & are flowing at speeds set by the state of Texas. I mentioned how long they've been set to this dismal speed & he said "years." I said no way - take a look at my specific pump & gave him the pump number. After looking at it live (the gas was still pumping while I was in the store talking to him), he said "oh, yeah - that is going really slow. I'll let someone know." read more

I witnessed something on Sunday, that will make me never use this station again. On Sunday afternoon a man was trying to fill a flat tire, in the rain. He apparently couldn't get the air to work. He came in for help. A clerk named John (kid probably 22) years) told him he had "no interest in assisting him because his change fell off the counter, (I assume he needed change made in quarters for air) This kid then...walked away!! I over heard the man say to other clerk (Ian who is a great guy) "I'm outside filling air in the rain and that kid (John) says "I have no interest in helping you or picking up your change."I was appalled of what I witnessed and will never go back. Great selection, I found everything I needed and the gal even helped me put air in my tires. The car wash does what is expected. If there is tree or bird droppings baked all over your vehicle, you will need a pre wash with a squeegie, that is posted on a sign & kind of common sense (well for some). The car wash has a "blower" because of the spotfree rinse. This means as you drive down the road, it dries!! To the poor person who had to use a porta potty! You probably had hand sanitizer in ya purse! Anyway, you people are slobs, nobody wants to clean up your piss from you trying to hoover your drunk butt over the toilet! read more

I filled my tank and was given the option to buy a car wash, which I did. Then I drove around to the car wash to find that it was out of service. First off, if the car wash isn't working, how about turning off that feature at the pump that allows a customer to pay for one? Or at least put up a sign? I went inside to ask for a refund, but the attendant said that only the manager could do that, and the manager wasn't there. So they sold me a service that they were unable to provide, but won't give me a refund, unless I come back when the manager is there; or I could return when the car wash is working and use the code I paid for, but either of those options is very inconvenient for me. Closest convenience store to the Bats under Congress Bridge. Good for grabbing a soda or gatorade or gum or New York Times (thought they run out early of the Times) or ice or a six pack. Not only do they have a decent selection of wine, they sell wine gift bags if you're running late to a dinner party. Very easy to use tire pump with a digital reader of the pressure. Yes, this was my first time ever putting air in my tires. After my friend C commented on "flat tires!" I got him to go to the gas station to assist, but was amazed by how simple it was. Next time, I'll go solo! Gas here tends to be 5-25 cents higher than other places--you pay for the convenience. I love this place! Everyone that works the night shift here is so nice - one of the staff members always goes and grabs my "specialty alcohol"from the back if its not upfront. They always ask me how work or my day was. Plus they have a great assortment of locally made tacos and sandwiches. It smells like incense in here. The people who work here are laid back. They carry THE BEST ORANGE CREAM SODA EVER. Sprechers. Coconut juice (even the chocolate one). Kombucha soda. Buddha's Brew. I hate to get gas, so on gas-up days, I plot my course based on convenience and one-stop shop. If your route doesn't require a left turn against heavy traffic, Riverside Chevron gots the goods. Pay at the pump speediness, public restroom if you've got to go, a selection of wines and beers... fresh juices from Austin's Goodflow, ATM, clove cigarettes, friendly staff and a whole lot more.
