This is my favorite Northeastern Chinese dish Gou Ba Rou! It is crispy pork, it is the even crispier version of sweet-and-sour pork. What I love most about this version is that the crispiness of the pork stays crisp for a really long time even the next day really. Their chef is actually from Northern China so you get the absolute authentic experience. I love the sweet-and-sour sauce at the bottom, but I think I like it where it's just lightly glazed for the ultimate crispiness. I would not recommend microwaving this dish the next day. I actually ate it cold, but you can also air fry it to keep it crispy. If you do microwave this the texture can almost come gelatinous like because it is coated by potato starch. There are three different flavors you can choose from. I got the original because it is a great balance of sour to sweetness, but they also have tomato flavor and the red spicy flavor. I can't remember the exact name right now. I have had their skewers, which was OK. I didn't like it as much because it wasn't spicy. This is great if you have children that love skewers. I do love their egg drop soup. We also ordered this as well but you can't see it in the picture because we ate it all up. I had the mapo tofu and cucumber salad last time to go, but it wasn't spicy so this is why my review is a four star. I specifically asked for extra spicy because I had a headache. Also, the flavor didn't taste authentic to Sichuan Mapo Tofu. It makes sense. The chef is from northern China. It was still good. It just wasn't the most authentic flavor. The food is amazing and reasonably priced. We were so excited to try things that we ordered way too much, but everything was good reheated. We want to go back and try more items! My gf ordered the braised beef noodles, pan-fried chicken and corn dumplings, and pork and green bean buns. She enjoyed all of it and was so excited because she can't order these things at most places (garlic allergy). I ordered the chive, egg, and shrimp steamed dumplings and vegan buns. The buns were so good, nice textures and flavorful. I was a little disappointed in the dumplings because of a lack of flavor but otherwise they were good (texture, amount of filling, etc.). We also really enjoyed watching on one of the screens the videos of the different menu items being prepared. We sat outside but there are several tables inside. It was very clean and modern. Little Lantern is pretty new and has a lot of service related issues to work through like taking orders correctly, getting the food to the right person, getting the food out, etc. They were struggling a bit but it was a little bit expected. I'm sure they'll smooth out though. It's really modern and bright inside and ACTUALLY comfortable. Not bench seats made of wood in a 90 degree angle with no padding. They have outdoor seating as well. I tried the double peppers chicken noodle -- something I haven't seen before. It was good flavor with a light heat to it. The noodles had good, chewy consistency. I had the pork and scallion dumplings as well. That was even better, to be honest. Good to see more diversity out this way! read more

We tried the little lantern dumplings and noodles on Woodstock Road in Roswell. We tried two types of dumplings and they both tasted very good. One of the dumplings was the pork and scallion and we ordered them fried. The other was the chicken and corn and ordered them steamed. One thing to know is that the restaurant is doing a soft open therefore not all of the menu items are currently available. A server came out from the kitchen to explain which menu items were available and showed us how to order on the menu screen. The restaurant has an outdoor patio as well as as many tables and chairs inside. We would definitely consider returning to try more of the menu items a little later in the month of March. This food just makes you feel better. It is so so good! We got the braised beef noodles, fried dumplings and the steamed buns. We can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu! What a wonderful find, thank you Yelpers! As you enter, there are cute tables and two circular booths. (Note on those: While they are super cute, they are better for two or three people at most. Portions will be family style and you'll run out of room. Trust me, you want to try things!) We had the beef lo-mien, chicken fried rice, kung pao chicken and beef pan friend dumplings. Everything was flavorful and fresh. The kung pao chicken was a thicker sauce than I'm used to and a little sweet, but still yummy. The service was also welcoming and responsive. Braised beef noodles had too much anise (licorice flavor) for my palate, but it's a flavor some people like, so the menu should mention that. I had it mild, and their definition of "mild" is pretty spicy. Beef chunks were big and tender so a different dish might be better. Noodles were good, but not exceptional. My wife's chicken lo mein was better, had a hint of sweetness, but she'd prefer more veggies. Pan fried pork dumplings were excellent, but 20 minute wait, so be prepared. Service was friendly but considering they were mostly empty, there was no excuse we had to wait so long for drink refills. New dumpling shop outside Atlanta As usual, I was searching online for a new dumpling spot to try and this new restaurant popped up. I'm running out of options, as I've tried EVERY place is GA at this point. What makes this business special? There are quite a few items that stand out on their menu in Chinese, but I specifically visited to try their Chicken & Corn jaozi. This is one of my favorite combinations to make at home, but have yet to see on a restaurant menu. The owner hails from Shenyang, capital city of Liaoning Province in Northeast China where Donbei style cuisine is prevalent. They also have high quality jasmine and oolong teas, which makes them a one-stop-shop for me. Should you visit here? Yes, I recommend trying ALL of the Chinese dumplings in Metro Atlanta before deciding your favorite. What are the chef recommended dishes? Dongbei style cuisine is skewer forward, but the dumplings and noodles are what they are known for. Food Quality The flavors here are perfectly balanced and you can really taste the ingredients. Some popular dumpling shops overseason their fillings, here you can taste the natural ingredients and use sauces to make more spicy or salty as you like. Price Compared to other restaurants with similar cuisine, the prices are much lower on specifically the appetizers here. Atmosphere Gorgeously minimal and open design, featuring a clean white dining area with tons of natural light. The outdoor patio is also great. Service The server is extremely knowledgeable about the menu and has tried every dish, so they can give recommendations and adjust spice level. What I ordered: I was solo dining during this visit, so I ordered as much as I could try, focusing on a balanced meal : 1 鸡肉玉米饺子 Chicken & Corn Dumplings Perfection, I could eat these every day. The sweet corn paired with the meaty chicken is pure comfort food. 2 红烧牛肉面 Taiwanese Style Braised Beef Noodles This is a rich brothy noodle dish that should be eaten immediately before the noodles absorb the soup. The beef is tender and bursting with anise flavor. As somone that visits Taiwan every year, this bowl brings me back without the 14 hour flight. 3 锅包肉 Guo Bao Rou - This is the first time I've seen this sweet and sour pork dish available in 2 flavor options; pinapple or tomato. So, I just had to try the tomato for the rich red color. 4 前女友柠檬茶 Lemon Jasmine Green Tea This is the best bubble tea in the area, and I've driven around and tried them all in the Roswell, Alpharetta, and John's Creek area. Order half sweet. 5 凉拌土豆丝 Cold Shredded Potato This is one of my must-try dishes whenever I see it on the menu. This version has hearty spices, yet still not too overwhelming. Honestly, this is the best Chinese I have had in forever. We got a few things and glad we did. Got the pan fried shrimp and egg dumplings and those things are amazing. Very light, yet so flavorful in taste plus they do a damn good job on the crispy skirt on these. We also got the beef and onion steamed dumplings and those are amazing too. The beef works so well in these, like the flavor is so nice and not what I expected. I got the mapo tofu and it's super nice. Not super spicy but the numbing pepper is really good on it and it's one of the best versions I have had in Georgia. Finally my wife and kid for the beef lo mein and my god for the price it can't be beat. 10/10 on everything. I'm just mad we live in Canton and not Roswell so I can't have it more often. Great service and the vegetable fried rice was amazing! It had lots of veggies that you could actually recognise like bok-choy and broccoli and egg you could see! Unfortunately the sesame chicken was overcooked and hard, the beef skewers were tiny, overcooked and fatty with too much dry seasoning on the outside which made it crusty and unpleasant. The beef and broccoli was mediocre. I will be back for the vegetable fried rice though! read more

I had high hopes for this place as one of my friends and I were trying to find a nice Asian Sunday lunch place that we both can get to easily. This was pretty average at best. She order the cucumber appetizer and I the spring rolls to share. The spring rolls were just simple eggrolls with ketchup playing the roll of "Duck Sauce". The ketchup just disgusted us going in. The cucumbers were better. At least a little spicy but needed to be soaked longer. She ordered then the vegetarian and the chicken and corn dumplings. I had the shrimp lo mein. The lo mein was ok. Nothing special, but the vegetarian dumplings were bland and soggy. We didnt even split them in the doggy bags. The only highlight was the chicken and corn dumplings. They were delicious. Loved it! This little place is really pretty on the inside and has a few tables on the patio. There's counter service for a quick to go order or table service. We tried the spring rolls with chicken that were piping hot and crispy. Followed that with Beef n Broccoli and Chicken fried rice. Both were excellent but beef n broccoli was a stand out. Beef was very juicy and tender and the sauce delicious. And the portions were very generous, enough for 2 more meals. We'll be back! read more

I just finished having lunch here with my family. It was an amazing experience. We all ordered a difference entree. Admittedly, my wife got the best thing-beef and broccoli. It was phenomenal. In fact, I plan on being back here on Wednesday for lunch. The spice is the perfect combination of heat and flavor. The dining area is almost too clean The whole place is white and the decor is absolutely beautiful. I cannot recommend the little lantern more. It's located at 500 Woodstock highway While we were dining in 7 people came it to get take out. They had it ready in the back and brought it out in pretty blue carrying bags. I went today, for the first time, and ordered orange chicken and vegetable fried rice to go. Based on their menu photos I was hoping to experience flavorful, authentic Asian cuisine like I enjoyed from my childhood. That didn't happen. I was greeted cordially, but the food omg. The veg. fried rice I got looks nothing like the menu advertisement and has ZERO flavor. The sticky steamed rice has more flavor than the fried rice. There are NO green onions in the fried rice, I believe I saw something that looks like egg...maybe, and possibly two little sweet peas, and the rest is a mess of bland cabbage and a few strips of carrots (I'm throwing it away). Half of the orange chicken is so overcooked it's like trying to chew strips of dry, hard leather. (The chopsticks in the pic are my own.) *sigh* AND it cost me $32 Never again. read more

We have been to this location many times when it was other restaurants. I'm glad to see that Little Lantern looks like it's going to be successful in this spot! My husband and I came on a Friday night arriving around 6:45 pm. Place was jam-packed with a large amount of people waiting for to go orders. Several people came in, waited a few minutes, and turned around and left realizing it was going to be too long of a wait to get a table and get their food. Unfortunately they only had two servers. The food took a long time to come out but when it finally did, it was delicious! We ordered the pork dumplings and they were great, but our server delivered them to our table and walked off without providing us with any dipping sauce. I had to track down sauce on my own. The beef noodle soup was next and it was great! Loved the broth...so flavorful!! Again, I had to get up and get the soup spoons myself. Lastly we ordered the spicy garlic chicken wings. They came out very crispy and were quite good! I asked the waitress for more water but it never came so for the THIRD time, I had to get up and help myself to the water pitcher. The two servers were so overwhelmed. I felt sorry for them. The servers were very kind at least. So my overall experience? Food was a 4.5/5....service was a 2.5/5 (not their fault...they were so understaffed) and the atmosphere was 4.5/5. Pretty restaurant, good vibe. But I do have one suggestion....the little alcove on the left when you come in, please get some couches or bar stools and make it a waiting area.
