The antipasto is very tasty and highly recommended. The frutta di mare dish was alittle disappointing it lacked flavor and the prawns and mussels were small, considering it was the highest cost item on the menu they can use larger ingredients. We had a group of 12 and the place was not that busy during dinner, we asked the waitress if the chef can come out and see us so we could complement some of his dishes and she comes back saying we can stop by the kitchen on our way out! Really! We probably spent the most money that evening. Sounds like the owner chef needs some training in restaurant hospitality and the waitress lost an opportunity for a 20% tip. This is what happens when tips are not part of their compensation in Ireland. Anyway good food for sure.

I had a cosmo which I feel was out the bottle, way too sweet for being freshly made, not that great but having had a 5 hour drive it went down nicely. Then onto the starters, Alex had the mussels and begin I the baked Brie. The Brie was lovely and perfectly complemented by the cranberry sauce - the cheese literally burst out of its crunchy shell once cut into which I loved. I also tried the mussels, the sauce was rich and tomato-y but the dish wasn't warm enough which made me a tad nervous. Huge portions though! Next to the mains, this is where if I could, I would give it a 3.5. The lam shank was topped with onions and a thin gravy and then cooked in pasty = lamb shank meets beef Wellington. It was great, the lamb fell off the bone and it was really well cooked and juicy meat. Served on a bed of creamy mash and fresh veg. The veg was slightly under cooked sadly but the rest of the dish, fantastic! I tried some of Alex's ham hock and that too was great. Really flavoursome and soft meat - if, however, your not a big fan of Dijon mustard I wouldn't recommend as it's literally covered in it! All of the above including a pint came to around £60 which for the size of the portions and the overall quality we were happy with!

While being Good Friday, the Ras Mumhan was in town so there were plenty of people to fill up the place. After being seated and given our order, a complimentary bread basket with dipping oil was placed on our table. It was much welcomed and we tucked into the nice chewy crusted bread. For a starter I went for the Carpaccio and for a main the Tagliatelle with Beef Ragu. The Carpaccio was fine, lots of tasty beef along with plenty of arugula and parmesan. I did need to leave some parmesan for a finish; there was more than enough to go with the beef. The Ragu main was ok, a bit bland truth be told. I may have liked it more if it was served with spaghetti instead of tagliatelle. I had two glasses of house white wine which was just fabulous. It started with distinctive sherry flavour that ran to a subtle smooth finish. Very surprising. Alas I cannot remember its name. Unfortunately Giovannelli was understaffed on this occasion. There was only one person manning the front of house and while she played a blinder serving everyone, it was slow. Also the main course took a long while to make it to our table. It appears the kitchen might have been understaffed also? Overall for the price, the food could have been a bit better and the service a lot better. They should not take bookings / seat people when they are understaffed in my opinion. FYI they don't take credit or debit cards, but there is an ATM a few doors down.

They accommodated our party of two which was extremely nice of them. It took a while until a server came to take our drink and good order. The garlic Parmesan Caesar salad was underwhelming (the lettuce pale and lacking freshness). My chicken mushroom risotto had so much black pepper I was constantly coughing from the spice. I quietly noted it to the server and a while later, the 'head' server (it may have been the owner) came over and said they don't put pepper in their risotto and implied I put it there. They did offer to make me something else from the menu. Overall they were professional but were insulting in assuming I put the pepper there. The photo shows how well incorporated the pepper was when I received it. It really doesn't deserve more words. It was just unfortunate. I can't say I'd go back just on one negative experience. It may have simply been unlucky incident for them but accusations are off putting.
