Piccolo Pizza - Garlic bread

Piccolo Pizza

Piccolo Pizza is just a hole-in-the-wall pizza place in Killarney, but boy, can they make…read moregreat-tasting pizzas. We ordered Hawaiian and sausage pizzas. They were both fresh and oven-hot. The crusts were nice and soft inside but crusty outside. It's too bad the pasta dishes were not as great. The pasta sauce tasted like it was from a can. If you ever are in Killarney Ireland and have a craving for pizzas, Piccolo is it!

My partner and I went here for dinner tonight after seeing how highly rated it is. It's definitely…read moreworth all of those ratings! This pizza was so delicious and reasonably priced. The people working here (possibly the owners?) are so friendly and sweet and were willing to make accommodations for dietary restrictions. I got the champignone pizza with no ham and my partner got the vegetarian pizza. We also finished with a tiramisu. The food came out super quickly and we got to watch it be baked in the oven. The dough was so fresh and crispy and the toppings were fresh and delicious. I loved my pizza so much and was sad when it was gone. We also got some garlic oil and fresh Parmesan to drizzle on top which only elevated the pizzas more. The tiramisu was heavenly and was exactly what I am craving when I'm craving tiramisu. The restaurant is small but cozy, off the Main Street a little so it's not too loud with the door open. There are five tables inside and a bar area along the wall so plenty of seating to choose from. Many people stopped in to order takeaway or called for delivery while we were here so it's clear they're popular. I loved eating here and would definitely come back. If you want some local pizza, go here!

The server wasn't the most friendly but she was efficient and kept our drinks filled including the big water pitcher we were given. I ordered calamari for the appetizer and it was good. It came out quick! We all had pasta for our entrees - I went with the spaghetti alla pescatora which had several types of seafood in it - and I thought it was so good. Very flavorful and it was a lot of food for the price. The entrees took a bit of time to come out but we were not in a rush so it was okay. They had several TVs throughout the restaurant set to different channels. The one near our table was playing what seemed to be some type of soap opera and it was cracking us up. Not what you would expect of this type of restaurant especially with how busy it was when we were here but it kept us entertained nonetheless! We were lucky that they allowed us to split the check up at the bar! It made our dining experience much easier and many restaurants don't like to split the check so this was much appreciated. There is a note on the menu that if they are super busy, they ask that you don't split the check.

I state that their hours of operation are "open until midnight" and their response is to kick away the door stop and tell me that they are closed "NOW". No further explanation beyond locking the door in my astonished face. While I cannot attest to the quality of pizza, I can attest to the quality of service - Four Star Pizza is No Star Pizza. If it is your policy to not fulfill pizza orders past a certain time, then my advice to you is to revise your hours of operation to properly reflect your hours of service.

The staff was very friendly and eager to please. This made our experience much more enjoyable. The pizza dough might have been made fresh the day that we visited but it was flavorless to me. The toppings also seemed lower quality to me and the wings were rubbery. They had a frozen and warmed up taste to them. Actually everything taste like it came in frozen and was warmed up. Of coarse this is not necessarily fact it is just what it taste like to me. A family member told me that they are a chain and became pretty excited when they saw that it was available in Ireland. It was all very average tocould not have asked for a friendlier and more professional staff member to assist us. Maybe I need to give them another try.

The bar also had some nice alcohol and spirits. Calamari: very juicy and enormous calamri coated with crispy pastry and nice seasoning. Probably some of the "largest" calamari I've seen. Chicken wings: some would call them authentic Buffalo spicy, I was just not a fan of the flavor profile myself. But the texture was quite juicy. Fish and chips: piping hot with crispy dough. The fish itself is slightly mushy though. Chips were standard. Overall, the food could use a bit of uplifting, but the dining environment was quite nice, and the staff was friendly.

We got a recommendation for Cafe Du Parc at dinner on the previous night, so we mapped it out and made our way for breakfast and coffee on a weekday morning. Given the day and time, they were not busy, so we were sat very quickly. The restaurant is one large space, but divided into two distinct areas. The breakfast/cafe and then the bar/restaurant. Same spot, different vibes. We sat at a table in the cafe area which features a few standard tables, a lounge seating area and a coffee/pastry bar. We ordered a combination of breakfast items from scrambled eggs to sausage rolls and an iced mocha. The eggs were good, very soft and fluffy, but a bit under seasoned, but that honestly was a trend in Ireland. The sausage roll was the best part for me! It was flavored and the house made remoulade/salsa was great! The iced mocha was a bit odd with the heavy dusting of chocolate powder on top, which made it a bit cakey when mixed in. It was tasty, but not what I expected. Service was stellar from entry to exit. The hostess was also our server and she was fantastic! The space was well kept and very clean. Overall, this was a great parting meal for us as we left Killarney!
