    Hainanese chicken
    Julie Ying X.

I came here for a late lunch since my family and I were in the area and looking for food. 86th St has so many options so it took a while to decide on a place (such difficult decisions haha). This place had good reviews so we decided to check it out. We ordered the Roti Canai, the Sarang Burung (chicken, seafood, veggies, cashews in a taro nest), the Hainanese chicken (half), and the Four Heavenly Kings (without shrimp, eggplant, string beans, okra, petai beans). The portions were larger than I expected and the food was not too greasy. I especially liked the Hainanese chicken and the Sarang Burung. Service was friendly and fast. I would definitely come back, the food was better than other Malaysian places I've been to in Brooklyn.

Tasty. One of the best places I have had hainan chicken. Good portions and quick service. Will definitely come back.

This family run spot, has roots in Queens but is now serving it up at this Brooklyn location. The vibe at this place is usually chill, not crowded, though patience with their service would be greatly appreciated when they do get busy. Otherwise, efficient and friendly. It's also a nice touch that they have a rotating lineup of homemade Malaysian baked, fried, and sweet treats, not all listed on their menu. Highlights: Hainanese Chicken - tender, fragrant & consistenly good. Dark meat option available for a small upcharge Curry Yang Tau Fu - excellent curry base, the appetizer is spot on & their curry noodle soup is a solid choice too Curry Chicken w/ potatoes - hearty and flavorful, though a bit heavy on the potatoes Satay Chicken - juicy, flavorful, and one of the best versions around Sizzling Tamago Tofu - soft tofu, paired with flavorful pork and shrimp sauce Scrambled Egg Chow Fun - comforting seafood "wat dan hor", noodles are smooth with a nice touch of wok heat, served with a light egg, seafood and veggie sauce Salted Egg Yolk Prawn Chow Fun Noodle - a must try, soft noodles with great wok heat topped with well made fried salted egg yolk prawns. slightly oily, but worth it Pandan and Coconut Pudding - lightly fragrant flavors of pandan and coconut flavors, perfect not so sweet finish Miss: Sarang Burong - execution of this dish needs a lot of improvement, chicken was dry, fried taro shell needs work Fish RIce Noodle Soup - started off eating this dish for a non spicy option but the dish has declined in my rotation. Possibly a good mild fish option for kids They take cash and credit, with credit card fee. Overall, great Malaysian spot in neighborhood with genuine service delivering flavor from the heart. The highlights are what is worth coming back for.

Lovely hospitality, good selection of food. We came for desserts, the momochacha and the red bean soup, and added an iced cendol as beverage. Tasty, not too sweet. The restaurant was spacious and a nice place to relax on a rainy day, not too busy. There was a display of Malaysian desserts and drinks. I got the pandan to go. There were also homemade kaya jam, which I kinda regret not getting. I also ordered two dishes to go, Nasi Lemak and the Meet Young Tau Food. Decent meals, though eating at the restaurant is probably best for freshness and taste.

Malaysian restaurants in Bensonhurst have come and gone, but I'm super happy to have found this one & add it to my go-to list. Reasons why I'm a fan: - Pearl noodles are on the menu. Need I say more? This is my favorite dish anytime I dine at a Malaysian restaurant, and I've found that many don't even sell this anymore. Little House's rendition was chewy, flavorful, and everything I could want in a pearl noodles stir fry. - The curry actually has flavor! Typically I find that curry can taste bland, especially as a side component to dip your roti in. This one was pleasant enough that we were taking spoonfuls, like a soup. - The decor is adorable! So excited to return and try more eats!

Stir Fried Lobak ; Beef Chow Fun ; Chicken Satay Skewers ; Hainan Chicken Rice ; Roti Canai

Everything was just ok + nothing special. The best thing we got was the Chicken Satay Skewers, which came with a yummy sweet peanut sauce. The Stir Fried Lobak was interesting - it came with fried tofu and century old egg as well. The Beef Chow Fun was saltier than I liked + the Curry that came with the Roti Canai was pretty watery. The Hainan Chicken Rice was decent! You're only allowed to choose between the breast or leg (dark meat). We chose the breast + there were ~6 pieces of chicken. The ginger and hot sauces it came with helped with the flavor. The order also comes with a cup of soup, which tastes primarily like sesame oil. Overall, this spot is just ok, but I've had better. Unfortunately, I'm still on the hunt for solid Malay food in South Brooklyn. If you know of a spot, lmk!

My best friend and I were on the hunt for Malaysian food in Brooklyn and we decided to give this restaurant a try. Our cravings were definitely satisfied. We had our usuals - the hainese chicken & the shrimp with string beans. It was a delicious meal and we have no complaints!

    Pandan Nasi Lemak

We stopped by for lunch. The restaurant was clean and quite spacious. Service was good. We ordered the following to share between 2: Young Tao Fu, Hainan Chicken Rice and Pandan Nasi Lemak. Young Tao Fu was really flavorful and had depths. The fried tofu skin was crispy goodness. Fishballs were bouncy and had good texture. The only exception was the the fishcake on tofu. It was bland. As for the Nasi Lemak, they didn't have the pandan rice so we got regular steamed rice. The sambal was good mixed with the anchovies. The bakwon was a little bland but nothing that Sambal can't fix. The Hainan Chicken rice was delicious and reminds me of Singapore. The chicken was juicy and rice had good chicken flavor. This was cooked with love.

I was in the area and stopped by Little House Restoran to get my Malaysian food cravings satisfied! Started off with the young tao fu (without noodles) and the curry sauce was super fragrant with a nick spice kick. The eggplant, tofu, and jicama with the meat filling were all very delicious. For mains, the prawn mee had a hearty broth with strong prawn flavors. The egg noodles were good but a little overcooked. The chow kway teow was solid with good wok hei and savory flavors. Shrimp pieces were juicy and bean sprouts crunchy. Nevertheless I think it could have used a little more white pepper. Their belacan sauce was a lovely addition to the noodle dishes. The sauce was very multidimensional with different layers of shrimp/seafood, garlic/shallot, and red pepper flavors. For drinks, the bek kopi was solid and reminded me of ones I had in KL. Although the chendol had strong coconut sugar flavors, the coconut milk was diluted and the green jelly was a little too mushy. DO NOT SKIP ON DESSERT!! As someone who grew up eating kuihs, their kuihs were very solid and affordable. My go-to kuih salat had a balanced mix of pandan and coconut flavors. The sticky rice was chewy and had a good texture. Their kuih sago impressed me. Not only was the sago integrity preserved, but also the coconut flavors and coconut sugar taste were balanced and not overpowering. This no frills mom and pop shop was bigger than expected; tables were clean. I went on a weekday so service was quick, despite a lot of take out orders. There is a fee with credit card payments so get your cash ready. Would come back if I was in the area and definitely will get more kuihs!

The food is the same, but they need to get it together with orders. I placed my order and went to 2 other places to order and pick up since I know they will take a while. During arrival she got my order wrong then when she showed me the receipt, it was someone else's receipt; which we ordered the same things, then she told me "your order was a while ago, we'll make it now". What?????!! I missed 3 trains and end up late to my activity. Order the pearl noodles from the lunch special and my usual crispy noodles. Crispy noodles are still tasty, light and flaky noodles. Pearl noodles are too tough.

Seafood CHAR KOAY TEOW - thick noodle fried with seafood yum
    Anna S.

This place has the best Malaysian food in Brooklyn! They have a huge selection of all the classic Malayan dishes. We got: 1. Char Koay Teow - thick flat noodle stir fried with seafood medley and bean sprouts. Our plate only had two pieces of squid and you can tell it's from a frozen seafood mix. 2. Curry mee young tao fu - delicious fish paste red curry with mixed with tofu fish balls, eggplants and fried tofu skin *MUST GET! 3. Nasi Lemak - we wanted to get the pandan version but they no longer sell the pandan rice. 4. Appetizer mixer platter - pork spring roll, shrimp pancake, fried tofu, thousand year eggs, with ginger and chili sauce The curry mee young tao fu appetizer is probably my favorite dish out of the four items. The curry is so flavorful and I love the mix and match of different textures in the soup. You have the soft eggplant, the chewy fish balls, and the crispy fried tofu skin. We had plenty to take home for a second meal for two people!!

We visited Little House Restoran a couple of times for lunch earlier this spring and felt that this place is one of the better Malaysian restaurants along 86th Street. However, our last visit with Little House Restoran was a terrible take-out experience. Dishes we've tried include: - #52 Salted Egg Prawn Chow Fun: $13.95; $15.19 with tax. The version we had at the restaurant was delicious. The salted egg imparted a delicious flavor on the shrimp, which then imparted the same flavor on the broad noodles (hor fun; 河粉). The shrimp were in shell though, and not deveined. The version we had for take-out was disappointing because there was very little salted egg flavor in the dish. - #3 Curry Puffs: $7.50; $8.17 with tax. Skippable. - #1 Roti Canai: $4.95; $5.40 with tax. Pretty good. - #50 Curry Chicken Gon Lon Mee: $12.95; $14.10 with tax. Good. The stewed curry chicken was a little dry, but was soft and tasty. The dish would have benefited from more sauce. - #59 Hainanese Chicken Rice: $11; $11.98 with tax. We had this dish with white chicken meat, because I was curious how Little House would do this dish with white meat. I should have stuck with dark chicken meat. Everything else in the dish was OK, though. Suggested tips are based on post-tax subtotals and start at 18%. There is a 3.5% surcharge for credit / debit cards.

The ginger chili sauce is given in such small amounts and isn't flavorful enough to give that oomph chicken rice has. The Asam laksa I would skip, it's nothing to write home about. Our table of six ordered Hainese chicken, stir fried Chinese watercress, stir fried noodles (not sure which ones these were), this taro nest with chicken and cashew dish, and roti canai. Overall everything was pretty solid. No complaints with the Hainese chicken, but it could have been a bit saltier. The sauce with it was pretty decent, but I enjoy the chicken itself being seasoned. I'm not sure which exact noodles we got, but they were decent as well. They were stir fried with beef and had a soy sauce flavor. The taro nest dish was also good with the fried taro being a good balance to the chicken stir fry dish inside. Roti canai was standard, but I wish it was warmer. The sauce was the typical curry sauce with a piece of chicken inside. Stir fried watercress with belacan (shrimp) sauce is good too. The belacan sauce wasn't overpowering which I appreciate. I would come back here again for a quick, hearty meal. It ended up being around $35 ish per person so not too bad for the large amount of food ordered.

The noodle portion was also very generous. It almost felt like they gave me a refill, but it was all there from the start. If you dug in with chopsticks, you would hit noodles all the way to the bottom. This time the food came out super fast and the noodles seemed clumped together, which made it clear they were pre-cooked and sitting out. I honestly would not have minded waiting a little longer if they cooked them to order, especially since I came on a Sunday afternoon and there was only one other table. It should not have been hard to make fresh noodles, so that part was disappointing. The toppings were also just the chicken. From what I know, laksa mee should come with things like tofu puffs, tofu sheets, fish cakes or egg to give it a more varied texture, so missing those made it feel a bit lacking.

We opted for the 15 course dinner that samples through their entire menu. It is a perfect amount of food for two people and I recommend this experience very much. The meal starts with a cozy chicken and noodle broth soup which was so warming and comforting, just what the doctor ordered in this weather. The second round of food was two types of salad and a corn fritter. I loved the pickled salads as they had a nice crunch to them and tasted delicious. The fritters are a good size but a little bit greasier than I liked. The last round is where all the curries are brought out on a hot plate. There's shrimp, lamb, beef rendang, chicken, tofu etc. There's also white rice and skewers of chicken and beef satay coated in a delicious peanut sauce. Some of the curries I liked very much - like the fried tofu and the sauce on the shrimp curry was divine. Beef rendang fell a little flat for me as it wasn't as decadent, thick or spicy like authentic rendang is. The lamb curry had a sweet taste which I found a little odd. The chicken satay was juicy and delicious but the beef satay was rubbery and hard to chew and a weird texture. I definitely expect better from a satay skewer. Our server was kind and kept the flow of the food going. The final course is a little coconut pandan flan which was very very good but the texture is firmer than what I like. Flan should definitely be a bit softer and creamier. Either way it's tough to nail a 15 course dinner expertly but I do think if they made a few needed changes to the quality of food this would easily be a 5 star experience! If you live nearby, definitely give this beautiful cozy family run restaurant a try!!

Side notes: Family-run place, so if you're going to go here with a bigger group, call early to make…read moresure they have the dishes you want. Would recommend the Bakwan, the Empal Goreng, and the Sayur Santen the most, with the Talor Tahu and various Bakwan being very tasty. Rating is for the area (in Queens, this would be an upper 3 as being a milder but tasty Indonesian spot, but worse than Sky/Awang.) I have been to this small family-run Indonesian restaurant a handful of times since my old review back in 2022, and over the many years, I have found some dishes I have loved more than others, of course. From the small plates, I would recommend, as before, the Bakwan for $9, consisting of crispy corn fritters cooked pancake style with scallion. The texture of the dish is wonderful, and the dipping sauces, whether they be the sweet chili sauce or the peanut sauce, work well to help with the slight oiliness. The sate is also pretty tasty. Of the multiple types, the Chicken Satay was the most recent one we had (which is cheaper at $11,) but I think the beef one (for a buck more) is better. We also had the larger Sate Madura a previous time, which was also very tasty. Another tasty dish is the Talor Tahu for $18, listed as a seasoned egg omelete with bean curd, mushrooms, and veggies glazed with Indonesian soy sauce and shallots. The price might look high for a vegetarian dish, but it is quite large, and the mixture of vegetables adds a nice mix of textures, including a good amount of crunch. The sauce is nice as well, adding a slightly sweet flavor, and goes nicely with the soft omelete. One of the most recent dishes I tried here is one of the best, which was the Empal Goreng for $21, listed as sliced beef marinated in sweet Javanese spices pan fried topped with Indonesian soy sauce. There was plenty of beef, which was cut thin and cooked beautifully, with the flavors reminding me a little bit of lemongrass dishes from Vietnamese spots, outside of it also having a slightly spicy kick. There was otherwise some lettuce, and the dish was served with some achar/acar, an Indonesian (and insert ASEAN country here) mix of pickled vegetables including cucumber, carrots, and onions. My other favorite dish here is a vegetarian dish, which is the Sayur Santen for $18, listed as lightly battered broccoli and cauliflower in Indonesian herbs cooked in spiced coconut milk topped with bean curd and carrots. There is a nice mix of textures, with the batter indeed, as listed, being very light, with the cauliflower and broccoli still retaining some crunch. My favorite part of the dish is the bean curd, which absorbs the delicious slightly sweet, and lightly spicy coconut milk. Another group of dishes that tend to be good are the various Belado, a pepper mixture with various spices that is somewhat similar to a sambal. This is available with Ikan, or crispy fish, for $20, or with Terong, or crispy eggplant and tofu, for $18. The crispy fish was a bit less spicy the most recent time, while the vegetables retained most of the kick from previous dinners, so I slightly preferred the vegetables. If there was one part of the menu to stay away from, it would unfortunately be the various kare, or curry. The Beef Rendang for $21, or pieces of beef simmered for hours in coconut milk and spices, is just alright, being a bit too soupy for my style (as I generally prefer drier rendang in general,) with the spices being a bit too light, whether it is the coconut milk or chili. The same can be said for the $19 Kare Ayam, which is also a bit too mild for my liking. From previous memory, I would also not recommend the Ayam Goreng, or their spiced fried chicken as it's a bit dry. The Nasi Goreng, for a variety of prices depending on protein, is also just OK. The dish listed as Indonesian fried rice with protein, scrambled egg, and protein was $18 in our case, for a chicken/ayam version. The portion was plentiful, but it partially lacked the wok hei I associate with this dish. The egg is nice, and there was enough chicken, but it was also a bit too plain. Speaking of light dishes, they have given us the Pandan Coconut Pudding for $7 a handful of times. This is a lightly flavored pudding with a very mild floral (from the pandan) and coconut flavor. Due to the texture and the light coconut sweetness, it reminds me a bit more of some kue you can find in some spots, such as Lady Wong and otherwise. It's a decent final bite. Outside of one particular part of the menu, I have liked this place every time I've been here. The food in general is pretty consistent, outside of maybe the spice level in a dish or two, but this is more expected in a casual spot such as this one. I'll go back again, probably in another few months, and sample more of their dishes. The rating is for the area, as it would be closer to a 4 in Queens, but I would still go back.

Nasi Lemak is my favorite all time dish, and this one hit the spot as well. It came with a generous amount of anchovies/peanuts and the sambal it came with was great. If I had to nitpick, I do wish the rice had a bit more flavor, but not a big deal. The kopi was really good, though I wish it came earlier with the toast instead of after we got all our food.
