I bake and lavishly decorate cupcakes for our family very often, so I am super-familiar with how to make them taste and look great! We thought we'd try Little Cakes Kitchen, so we ordered the half-dozen box of assorted cupcakes. They were delivered through DoorDash. We knew we were not able to pick our flavors by ordering this way, but figured Little Cakes would send a representative sample, which I assume they did. I'm not sure which flavors were in our box because they weren't labeled. I wanted to know what we were eating, but I had to dig through many past reviews to identify most of them. The 6 flavors received in the 1/2-dozen box were: * Vanilla * Chocolate * Almond Champagne * German Chocolate * Something Marshmallow-Topped * Something Chocolate--Topped with Thin Vanilla Icing and Vanilla Buttercream All the cupcakes were of average size and were decorated nicely enough. Albeit the cake part on all the cakes were a bit dry. It was difficult to discern a specific flavor on a few, so I've come to the conclusion that garnishing must be their gift. Most of the 'vanilla' flavors, were indistinguishable in flavor from one another, except for the Almond Champagne, which had a cloying almond paste filling, and too much filling to cake ratio. Of particular concern was that the frosting on all seemed to be off in ratios of butter to shortening. I suspect there was an over abundance of shortening in all the cupcakes, which to me, is not palatable, nor is it delicious or anything resembling what a good cupcake should be. They miss the mark in my opinion. Due to the high prices and the fact that the frosting on all the cupcakes was cloying and poorly prepared with what I suspect was too much shortening, and not enough icing sugar, I would likely not buy cupcakes from Little Cakes Kitchen again. read more

Was wandering around and decided to swing by before heading to an event in the area. We have been here before a few years back and the cupcakes and brownies were just as good as I remembered. I was so excited they had a Jack Skellington themed cupcake (it was a tasty chocolate cupcake). I really enjoyed the almond cupcake I got. My mom loves chocolate cupcakes with white frosting and the one I picked up for her did not disappoint. They were all tasty and super moist. My Mom also really like the brownies, especially since they had walnuts (her favorite). Baked goods were reasonably priced and worth every penny. Love how the store is laid out and how the cupcakes are displayed and labeled. The store is nice, bright, and open. The staff is very personable, helpful, and overall amazing. The cupcakes flavors are different and you'll find a flavor you like - there is everything from fruit to chocolate and even seasonal pumpkin. Little Cakes even has some specialty flavors online you can order in advance (like French Pear tarte and Linzer). Unfortunately, they were out of the Almond Champagne one the last time I went. That one is the flavor that first brought me here! Cupcakes are good - moist, flavorful, good size. The drunken pumpkin (delicious pumpkin cake with rum! and chocolate, caramel and cinnamon on top) . It was definitely was my favorite. The vanilla was my least favorite. The vanilla cake was fine but the frosting was flavorless and hard. I always get a vanilla cupcake since It is easy to compare to other bakeries. I would say every other vanilla cupcake I have had elsewhere was better! Service was so-so, the person was busy and didn't really offer any positive interaction. Also, if you see a lot of cupcakes in the back - you can only order the ones in the three main cake stands. I've gotten the one that won the Cupcake Wars and it's amazing (sorry I forgot what it was called). They have unique flavors, which I like. We were looking for a place to make a cake for one of our events and we decided to try a few cupcakes first. When we went in they had Halloween themed cupcakes and the 'sally' was our favorite. There is a slight price increase for the specialty cupcakes but nothing crazy. My favorites are the banana mocha tella, vanilla and almond. Their vanilla and almond buttercreams and sooo rich and creamy. Their award winning almond champagne with Bavarian is also delicious! We ended up ordering two round cakes and one sheet cake. I was in touch with Alexa all month - she is so friendly and accommodating. She calls me on time and always responds to my emails and texts. I came here to pick up some last minute treats for work and grabbed their pre packaged dozen mini cupcakes! It came with 6 different flavors and was fast & easy to purchase. For a mini dozen, it was $21 I believe? The cupcakes were moist and flavorful, and everyone in my department enjoyed it. My favorite was the strawberry milkshake, it was a vanilla base and strawberry frosting that explodes with flavor in your mouth. The parking was easy to find, I parked next to the Panda Express and walked over to the opposite side to find the store. It's in front of the movie theatre. The service was nice and easy. I tried the award winning champagne almond cupcake, and it was very good but had just a tiny bit of icing on it. The icing on the chocolate was very good as well. They keep the cupcakes refrigerated, so they need to be left to sit out at room temperature to get the best flavor and texture. They don't taste as good cold, so I'll get it "to go" next time. Little Cakes is a local favorite, so it was my first choice when I was tasked to hunt down two dozen delicious cupcakes for a baby shower. I arrived a few minutes before they opened since I needed two dozen of a single flavor same-day, and without a pre-order I wanted to give myself the best chances. Luckily I was first in line. The woman who opened the shop was pretty icy. Just generally curt and unfriendly. Thankfully a lovely older woman swooped in to help me. She was super accommodating and did her best to find 24 cupcakes of a single flavor. What was strange was that, as we were in the middle of ordering, the other rude employee sold the cupcakes I was in the middle of purchasing to a customer on the phone. It was bizarre! I ended up needing to settle on two different designs of a single flavor, which obviously wasn't my first choice. I kept it easy, nodded and took my cupcakes, but that really left a bad taste. This is my favorite cupcake shop in SD, so I decided this would be the place to order a cake from for a birthday. Although I didn't get to taste the cake, the birthday girl said it was delicious! I ordered the almond cake with vanilla buttercream, 8" and round. I asked for "vintage" style and provided a picture, and the piping was PERFECTION.
