I asked her if she's ok with my specific request and she said ok to take time to figure things out. After a haircut, I tried to make extra appointment for touch up and they said they are going to charge $100 for another haircut because it's over a week. I asked them for a smaller charge since it's only about 10 days. The front desk talked to my stylist and she got back to me to make another appointment and we'll discuss the price. Then the owner called me and said the stylist did not want to cut my hair and I need to cancel the appointment. I think it's bullshit because I was checking in with her often, and she let me make another touchup appointment. I think the owner doesn't want anyone who tries to bend their rules. They represent themselves kind of artsy and free spirit, contrary they are super strict on rules and not accepting everyone.

I was a customer at RBCS from Nov.7.24-Jul.7.26 & would like to share a few things so other folks…read moredon't get themselves into trouble like me. I wanna start by saying my stylist was Keri S., who is AMAZING & I absolutely have no issues with their work! They literally gave me the hair of my dreams multiple times, & if you get the opportunity to work w/ them, I highly recommend it. Where I have issues is the cancellation policy. Context: I grew up poor and I am still living paycheck to paycheck. My hair salon before this was my bathroom sink or a Great Clips. So idk much about luxury salons. My one rich friend did say this was a wild policy so I will trust her on that (she moves a lot & has a dedicated hair routine, so knows salons). My appointment was supposed to be Jul 10, 26. I'd been saving for months, & was at budget! However, my cat had an unexpected vet visit the week prior & the $550 bill drained what I had. This is where I would like to take responsibility: I should have cancelled THAT MOMENT. My partner does gig work & made miracles happen before, so I asked if we could do it again, w/ my deadline being Monday, 7.6.26, to cancel. On Monday, we didn't have the funds, I tried to make a call, & discovered my phone was not working due to Samsung Messages deleting their app. I could neither confirm nor deny the appointment. No big deal, I'll call tomorrow! The policy hadn't previously been enforced when I needed a cancellation & when my stylist needed a cancellation, & everyone seems super chill. Nope! After explaining I would need to reschedule because I didn't have the money, I was given an option: reschedule for Saturday (later, told that option was actually based on whether someone else would reschedule), OR pay the $300 punishment fee (originally quoted @ $250; the price magically jumped when I called back bc of a 'misquote'.) I paid the fee & told them to forget I'd ever been there, bc listen y'all: I am chronically ill. My knee has dislocated while I was on the way to the doctor & they were more understanding than this. There are days I wake up and can't move because of my illnesses. I can't be out $250-300 every time my body decides to have a flare up or my cat drains my savings. Unfortunately, like most modern "alt" things, it's corpo-fied. They don't specify how they calculate fees, since it's based on service fees, which vary depending on how your appt goes. They don't specify if their stylists were asked before enforcing this policy, nor do they specify if the stylist sees ANY of the money they charge you for "not respecting their time." *Jeesh*, I'm broke, not a purposeful donkey-hat. If you're disabled, have kids, have pets, or don't have money like that to throw around, & you decide to visit, some tips: Don't let them make you reschedule after your appt. Wait until ~48 hours before you want your hair done & see if they have openings. It'll be auto-confirmed, & you have less time for you/your pet/kid to get sick & cost you. If you ever have issues, do your best to speak to the lady tht works mornings. She is way more willing to listen & at least empathize with you when things are going wrong. I genuinely don't think this would've happened if I'd called earlier Tues morn, but I have a job & the afternoon lady refused to speak to my partner (despite him being the one who normally does the scheduling since it's usually a gift.) TLDR: RBCS says they're alt & plaster stickers around talking about their anti-establishment policies. Some ppl tht work there are genuinely great/do seem to live by those values. BUT it's an "alternative serving" luxury hair salon. And the "luxury hair salon" part will ALWAYS come first. If they aren't getting paid, they don't care. If you know you'd never find yourself in a situation similar to mine, go for it! Otherwise... it's not worth it.

Worse place in Chicago--women: this is your warning. Ignorant on haircuts, color, pricing and…read moremanners. The supposed manager Mario--after all that happened--had the audacity to rudely say to me, "Why don't you come to a salon and know what you want?" I said, "I was clear from the moment I came in: a layered hair cut with a light burgundy brown color. He was beyond rude and extremely phony. I initially went in for a consult and Mary the stylist said, "it looks like you've let an over texturized cut grow out--I can fix this she says--I barely texturize and...you need better coloring--some parts of your hair are way too dark." I agreed & came back for my appt. which she said would be $60-$80. I suggested we cut my clean hair dry so she could see my own natural waves. She insisted on dying it knowing I had grey roots. She didn't listen to any suggestions so wanting burgundy brownish color never happened. My roots turned out bozo the clown orange. We had a photo of a simple long layered shag style. She insisted on a quick cut, then blew it dry straight and thick and began hacking away and cut deep into it like a paper shredder or carrot peeler. The thing is I stopped her, but by then her innocent voice was, "No worries this will be great." I went to pay and it was $118 & the manager added the tip wrong and it was $148. The stylist after 3 hours of this procedure--spoke to me at a later date and agreed everything was wrong and that she--Mary--wasn't capable of the cut. So I stupidly agreed to at least let her calm down my roots. When I went back this turned out to be a nightmare like no other. The owner told her to dye my roots a color to match the overall color of my hair. The stylist and I both said no the color you picked has red tones and will make the roots worse--let's use medium brown. That was agreed but the stylist got scared of her boss and used the reddish brown and afterwards took me out in natural daylight on the street. She said, "Plz don't go home like this--you look worse--even more like a clown--on fire--plz let me fix this." I told her I think I should leave because your co-workers are starting to look at me weird as if this is my fault. She said who cares about them--I'm fixing it. Yet in Spanish which I understand--she told them she was dying my roots brown at my request. After she put the dye on my roots and my scalp was burning as now I was in the salon for 4 more hours--her co-worker told the stylist--" plz remove the color you put on this girl's head--you picked the wrong level of brown and it will look like black." Sure enough: blackish roots all over my hair and strands--and myself checking my hair--black stain all over my nails. They had nothing in the salon to remove it. So everything I came in for was a waste of 7 hours and it will take 3 months at least to grow out a horrifying, thinned all over choppy haircut. Sure I can blow dry it and make it nice. And sure two washes and the color will blend, but the money and time wasted can not be replaced. Mary knew I wanted an easy to go look. Wash and water no fuss--which only can happen with a professional cut. So ladies--avoid this salon. Also, her co-worker looked into my eyes a few times to let me know that the woman who said she could style and color me very well--didn't have the knowledge to be good at any of this and was seriously inexperienced. I have dated photos of all of this. Careless place that should not be allowed to operate like this. Mary seemed kind, but her ignorance at her job shows her true colors--pun intended.

I received a better dye job from her than I have in my visits to some other pricier salons down the street.
