Canela - Canela... Found a small piece of home a really long way from home!

But our last two visits have witnessed a slow change in the way Canela does food. They have dropped the 6 or 8 large serving items in favor of having tapas-sized servings, and the number of those options has likewise decreased. The cheese board, the charcuterie are still good, as are the pastel de nata, but if you have not eaten at Canela's in a few years, you will notice the change immediately. What used to be an option (sharing food with your dinner companion) is now part of their "social dining" approach (phrase from their banner outside).

The place is tiny but has a really nice feel to it, helped by the really nice choice of tables, huge windows facing the street and a beautiful display of their sweet and salty treats. I ordered one of the most popular choices back home for an afternoon (or any time of day for that matter) snack: pão de queijo (or cheese ball) and a quindim for dessert (sorry but I can't remember its English name). Both were simply delicious and on par with some of the best I had back home! Definitely worth any £ spent on them and worth a visit if you'd like to try them. I had an opportunity to talk to Wagner, who seemed to be one of the owners, and he was very nice and attentive. Definitely recommended! Love it!

My husband generally doesn't care for mushrooms, but the grilled garlic mushrooms that we ordered were his favorite he's ever had, so much so that he wanted to keep eating more and more (and I can agree as a lover of mushrooms that they were some of the best prepared that I've had!). Additionally, I have never tried African rice before, but it was so flavorful and the addition of the crispy chicken skin was great. The server gave great recommendations for the Vinho Verde wine. I enjoyed both of the ones that we got and my husband, who enjoys port liked the port + tonic cocktail. It's beautiful inside and lively but not too crazy or loud. It's a lovely place to go to for an intimate date or with a group. We would definitely love to come here again with more people so that we can share more items on the menu!

Glad to finally be invited to travel back to the future and experience a most fun Sunday lunch - Portuguese style. The menu includes a great selection of fresh fish dishes and paella which come with massive side orders of either chips or mixed veg. Everything is fairly basic and definitely not haute cuisine but good value. What makes this place so special is the amazing atmosphere, it feels like walking into a family do in the 70s. We all sang along to the cheesy music and even joined into one round of Bingo. Not recommended for romantic dinners, but excellent for a light hearted and casual party. Oh, and as the name implies, sport flimmers permanently from various screens. I was in two minds about even writing a review as this seems to be such a well kept secret ...

The food is all typically Portuguesa as are the owners and the waiters. You will truly feel like you've gone to Lisbon for the evening. The décor is very basic but bursting with character and the food is very good, some things more than others. For example the lamb chops are extremely tasty but the beef can be quite chewy.

It's also adorable with a lovely man serving and making all the food out the back. I walked past this place this morning and thought, "I must pop in for lunch, this place looks too cute." I'm so glad I did! Browsing the menu there is a host of Brazilian home baked delights on offer, from chicken croquettes to cheesey dough dumplings. I went for one of their home made sandwiches filled with egg mayo and tonnes of salad. That with an apple cost no more than £3. What a great value lunch. They do have a little sitting area for 2 people that you can eat at. It's really nice because you can sit and watch the world go by while munching your lunch. I am so going back here to try the rest of their menu as well as their coffee. Well done Café Brasileiro, I can't wait to see you grow ever popular with the locals.
