What an amazing all-around experience we had at The Village. I personally had the fried calamari and steak skewer (amazing quality cut of meat and too much to eat in one sitting). Everything was fantastic. The people with me had various appetizers and entrees (including the grilled cod) and everything was excellent. There were many sides that came along with the entrees (delicious garlic bread, fries, cornmeal, etc.) and we were spoiled for both choice and quantity. The desserts were excellent and remarkably inexpensive. From what I've seen in London, you'll not get better value for your money at any other restaurant. For anyone who has been to Fogo de Chao, this restaurant reminded me of that. 10/10, would recommend. Also, it seems like Yelp is not as popular to use in the U.K.--but I checked this restaurant's Facebook page and there's a plethora of good reviews you can see there if you're curious.

Tucked in Brixton Village Market amongst all the gorgeous little cafes, restaurants, shops and stalls, the Brixton Village Grill is one not to overlook! The chicken was delicious, especially with the kick from the spicy sauce dribbled over the top. With the meat you could choose two sides out of chips, salad and rice. I opted for the salad and rice, the portions were generous and the salad was dressed perfectly - not too little, not too much. I devoured my food in record time. It was a perfectly filling lunch and the ladies serving were delightful - smiley, warm and welcoming. And did I mention the price? £7.50! Bargain! I'll definitely be popping back soon and will perhaps try one of the specials such as grilled seabass or piri piri prawns, if they're available. Yum!

After a few glasses of bubbly we headed to Brixton Village with the intention of going to the first place that took our fancy but unfortunately it was Wednesday and as we discovered a lot of places close early on Wednesday in Brixton Village. It was also a bit chilly so we wanted somewhere that we could sit inside. We only had one option and that was the Brixton Village Grill. I can't say it would have been the fist place I would have chosen for my birthday celebrations but I wasn't a bit sorry we ended up there. The décor in here is really cool in wood with lots of Bansky prints. Firstly drinks - we ordered a jug of Sangria which was delicious and bottle of Portuguese Rose which was slightly fizzy, very light and very drinkable. All the wines are Portuguese and very reasonable except for a bottle of Champagne which really doesn't fit on this menu at all. There is a limited menu but this is perfect for the type of restaurant it is - a typical Portuguese restaurant which will transport you back to holidays spent in the Algarve. There are five or six starters inlcuding of course sardines and the mains are a choice of Chargrilled Sirloin Steak, Flame Grilled Chicken, Chargrilled Spare ribs, fish of the day or the vegetarian option of chargrilled aubergines with parmesan tomatoes. Between us we ordered the steak, ribs and fish of the day which was a whole seabass cooked on the bone. The sides are a choice of two of the rice, chips or salad. We all went for the salad and chips. The food came pretty quickly and the portions were huge. I had the ribs and only got through about half of them as did my friend but the staff were happy to wrap them up for us to take home - they were far too delicious to waste! Two people had ordered the fish and this seemed like a good portion, the steak too was a big portion. The chips were delicious, hot and crispy on the outside and fluffy in middle. We had some of their incredibly hot piri piri sauce which be warned will blow your mind! The salad was a simple dressed salad of tomatoes, cucumber, onion and lettuce and complimented the food perfectly. All of us agreed the food was really great. Dessert was an enormous slice of cheesecake with a candle in it doubling up as my birthday cake. Way too much for me but a good size for five pretty full ladies who still like to leave a little room for dessert! Did I mention it was a dime bar cheesecake? On tasting this one of my friends literally sat back closed her eyes and smiled in utter contentment - if you love cheesecake you will love this!!! Finally the staff were really lovely and went out of their way for us. Our waitress was from Colombia and couldn't have been more attentive. This place has great food at a great price in great surroundings so what is not to like? I will definitely be back!! Oh one thing this is cash only so don't get caught out!!

Here are a few: 1) Decor and restaurant location: I couldn't find this restaurant at first but when looking for it, I saw only a Brazilian flag on a window. No signs and made it confusing to go to this place. When I entered, this so called "restaurant" was in a vape shop and I personally don't think anyone would've seen the restaurant. Now inside the restaurant was authentic in other aspects, there were some good uses of decor (e.g: the paper mache houses) however no lighting and overall, looks more like a rustic cafe than a restaurant. 2)Food: Me and a friend had ordered 2 traditional meals, one was a beef meal and the other was a pork meal. This was good in flavor however bringing the plates, I felt that it was not adequate to use so many plate to serve one main and this wasn't big either. We also ordered dessert and it was a flan, really nice and tasty. 3) Service and hospitality: Utterly disgraceful. The manager was nice and I felt that he was somewhat welcoming however the waiter that attended us was not, primarily to me. My friend who was there was a woman and so the waiter attended and was smiling more to her than to me and then in food. The dessert, she got more than I did and I am a man. This gave me the impression that the waiter and cooks were sexist because as a customer and a man, I deserve the same quantity as any other person. I am also Peruvian so in South America, this would be unacceptable at the highest level. I told the waiter I spoke Spanish but he did not and so made the language barrier difficult. The waiter talked too fast and since we did not know Portuguese, the guy still kept talking like that. 4)Pricing: decently priced however not worth it in my opinion (e.g: beef meal was £20 however took long to come). Overall this is what I have to say: If you want food at a cheap price in cheap "restaurant" with cheap staff who treat you differently if you are of a certain gender and are of Latin or Hispanic heritage, come here! The Medellin is stunning, and you will come back for it. The closest they get to 5 stars certainly. Fish, however, is not their forté. The Royale on the brunch menu, for example, is a giant miss. The soft, somewhat old salmon is not balanced at all, and sits atop a nearly rock-hard corn muffin. The hollandaise sauce is no more than "ok", and the egg is out of place. Service isn't always amazing, but at least it's kind. And you don't come to pay £7.50 for a dish and expect Michelin-quality wait staff. The blended juices, by the way - spot-on. If I were asked to pay £10+ per dish, this place is 3 stars. At £7.50, it's 4.
