They do offer other flavors, but this is the most popular flavor. And for the record, it did not disappoint! I went to get some slices as we have never been there. Their entire case was empty, which is fine it tells me they are busy. The staff was helpful and let me know what was available in the back and what they were getting ready to slice. My youngest son is in love with the unicorn cake. My dad and I like the strawberry rum. I had enjoyed Cathy's Rum Cakes for years. I had not had in a very long time. My husband surprised me with Lisa's Rum cake for my birthday. The cake was very cute, round cake with pink, purple and blue flowers and unicorn decor. I was very excited that he got me a Lisa's Rum Cake. I remember how delicious they were. This cake did not taste good. The taste was very off. It was a cream filled yellow cake with strawberries. There were 11 of us and no one ate their whole slice of cake. The icing had a metallic taste. The cake did not have any rum flavor and was just very bland. I tried another piece the next day, as I tried to eat it, my thought was this does not taste good and ended up tossing the rest of that piece. The cake was over $100 and we ended up throwing away the rest of it. What a waste. I am a sweets person and I have never had the experience of something tasting so bad that I would throw it away. My husband apologized to me for the cake. He really wanted to do something special and was sad that it was so bad. read more

So I was sad when I saw the Cathy's empty! Come to find out, Cathy's daughter Lisa opened in another location! I am obsessed with Lisa's Rum Cake so much that they offer a cake that they once tailored for my picky taste (try the Neapolichip, I promise you'll love it). I have used Lisa's Rum Cake for several parties, my wedding reception (they coordinated drop off with my venue for me!), holiday gifts, and I have purchased CUTS just for fun. I've also gone to their open-house tastings twice, which is almost better than Christmas. Lisa's is famous for the flavor of their cakes as opposed to extravagant designs. While their cakes look beautiful, I don't believe they make the 10 tiered, jeweled, extravagant cakes you might see in a bridal magazine. Because they're focused on the flavor, I don't think they ever work with fondant (yuck). I also believe all of their cakes are non-alcoholic, if that matters to you. The only thing better than their cake is their customer service. We called them apparently after they closed 3 weeks ago, and without asking who was calling, they said they would stay there for a half hour to let us purchase some CUTS. While we were there, Madison offered to make us a cake on the spot (!!!), and we had a blast chatting with her and Lisa, as well as the rest of the family. Apparently, I've promoted them so much on my personal Facebook page that a friend wrote me thinking that I worked for LRK. Thanks to frequent appearances on Groupon (plus the 15% cashback bonus from Discover), I've gotten two more cakes from Lisa's, and I've been very happy with them. I got the chocolate rum last month which was crazy delicious. I loved the rum flavor in the custard, and the cake chocolate layers were incredibly moist. Ditto for the strawberry rum I got today. This is the flavor that they were known for back when Cathy's Rum Cake was around. It's the cake we had at my grandmother's 75th birthday nearly 20 years ago, and it tasted just as good as I remembered. The cake is really some of the best I've had. I bake all the time, and there's no way I could do anything this good. I'm surprised how much I like the custard filling because usually I don't like that sort of thing, but it goes perfectly with the cake and the just-sweet-enough Italian whipped cream frosting. Just a couple things keep me from giving them a 5th star. It's a bit steep without a coupon or discount. My sister is begging for one of their cakes for her birthday so if there's no Groupon available, I'll stick with the 25%off flavor of the month discount. Lastly, my cake today said "Doris" instead of "Dons" for the two guys named Don I was gave the cake to. It's no Kathys Rum Cake unfortunately. Not sure what they did or where they went wrong but they definitely went wrong. The cake itself was very dry, the creams and fruit parts were fine, except the bananas. Which were WAY too ripe and brown to go in a cake. Almost sour. We have been going to Cathys for over a decade and won't be continuing on with Lisa's now that Cathy is gone. You're seriously better off just going to Costco or Sams Club now. I used to get a rum cake from Lisa's Mother, Cathy, 20 years ago (in Scottsdale) each year for my birthday. They were delicious and well worth the price. I'm sorry to say either Lisa was not taught by her Mother, or did not have the talent to learn the fine points of cake making. The cake was gummy and not very flavorful, and the icing didn't even taste like whipped cream (like some kind of fake hybrid). And they don't really use rum; just rum flavoring (what's the point and why not?). My partner and I each had a slice and we both decided the rest of the $ 50 cake is going in the compost.
