I thought more veggies in the filling would've been nice; I couldn't really taste any. I was definitively craving dumplings when I came here, but apparently not enough to ignore some of the primary issues I had with these dumplings. It's located in Turnstyle, which is the underground market in the Columbus Circle station. It's somewhat unclear, so just a note. I've walked through this market before but haven't bought anything before, so it was great to at least be able to see some of what it's all about. I ordered on their tablet, and they have a variety of different options either boiled or fried. My favorite part was definitely that they make the dumplings right there in front of you. Really adds something to the experience and made me feel like I was eating fresh dumplings. I ended up getting some pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings. Seven of them were $12 which is genuinely so crazy to me and I've resolved never to pay that much for dumplings ever again. I thought the filling was decent, and I enjoyed the crunch of the skin. My main problem was that the filling came to me cold. The meat closer to the skin was warmer, but as I bit down and got to the center, the filling got noticeably cooler. I love that dumplings have a little spotlight in such a busy area of Manhattan, but likely wouldn't come back because of the price and the weird temperature. read more

I love their veggie dumplings which are now labeled vegan! Nice convenient spot in the Columbus Circle underground food hall (turnstyle) to get dumplings if you don't feel like going to a restaurant. I ordered the Pork & Chinese Cabbage Hand Made Dumplings (7 for $9.99+). They asked me if I wanted Steamed or Pan Fried, so I chose Pan Fried, not knowing it was an additional $1. It's not a huge amount and is also indicated on the menu, but I'd never paid additional for pan fried vs steamed and it would have been nice if they'd mentioned it. The handmade dumplings had nice, flavorful filling, but the wrapper was a little too thick and doughy for me. For people who like chewy dumplings, I think this would be a good option. read more

I love that they have chicken and bell pepper dumplings as that's the marriage of two foods I love. I wish I'd had a fork to eat them since I'm not so good with chopsticks but the dumplings were very good, didn't cause me to get sick full and were great with soy sauce for dipping. This was my first time trying any of the food stalls in the Turnstyle Underground Market in Columbus Circle. And I'm glad I decided to try Lisa's Dumplings since this is exactly the type of food that should be sold in this kind of venue. Dumplings are easy to make (does not require a big kitchen) and great for eating on the go. Next to the counter you can see them make the dumplings from scratch, which is kind of cool. I ordered the 7-piece pan-fried pork and shrimp dumplings. You can get the dumplings cooked pan-fried or steamed. The dumplings are small, much smaller than what I'm used, almost akin to appetizer size. I liked the dough they used. Thin and chewy. The filing was tasty, but I did not get much of the shrimp flavor/pieces. If you want a little bit of heat in your dipping sauce, you can ask for the chili sauce instead of the soy sauce dip. I must note that while there were no lines, I did have to wait a bit to get my order of dumplings. Possibly because they make the dumplings to order?? It certainly tasted fresh. I've had Lisa's Dumplings about 3-4 times before writing this review--mainly because I desperately wanted to like them. I mean, who doesn't love watching their dumplings being skillfully made in front of them? Other reviewers have even commented on how authentic these dumplings are and I don't doubt them at all. However, speaking as an average consumer with an admittedly somewhat westernized palate, I think the dumplings are just okay in terms of taste and value. Having eaten through most of the menu, the pork dumplings are the only ones that seem to have any flavor. The shrimp, chicken, and veggie varieties woefully lack either salt or seasoning, a problem that is exacerbated by the fact that the dumpling skins are very thick. As with most of the establishments located in Turnstyle Market, they're also rather expensive (about $1.50 per dumpling) and there is an additional $1 charge for getting them pan fried. I think they're still worth a try if you're a dumpling lover looking for a quick bite, but I can't say I recommend them over the multitude of other Chinese food options in the neighborhood. read more
