From a food front, the spread is luxurious as it is enormous. The variety is a bit dizzying and completely overwhelming for the average hungrier than life patron. At $500-900HKD, it's almost hard to see where the value lies. Is it the ambiance (which is breathtaking), the service (which is superb), or the quality of the food (which is good for a buffet)? I'd have to say it's a little bit of everything. If all you can eat in an high end setting sounds appealing to you, then this is one of the better hotel buffets in Hong Kong. The seafood selection is the place where most folks tend to get the most bang for their buck. From mussels, clams, prawns, and limited oysters, there is also snow crab legs and lobster claws. Occasionally there are whole crabs and lobsters, which usually taste like they've been frozen. The sushi is an easy skip, due to the terrible presentation and slim cuts, but the sashimi, particularly the salmon, is quite good. There is also a decent variety of smoked salmon, which seems to be one of the most popular items in any HK buffet. The Italiano section features various breads, cold cuts, and cheeses. There is a pasta station, but it's closer to the middle where the hot foods are prepared. The dried fruits selection is nicely paired with the various cheeses ranging from gruyere to bleu. This area is not particularly impressive on its own, but decent for variety's sake. Hodgepodge is the best way I can describe the hot foods area. Random foods from a featured cuisine of the month (in my case, it was Korean), along with Dim Sum during lunch time, and various cuisines that span from Indian to Continental. There is also a carving station with trio of meats (ham, lamb, beef) as well as a "you make it" wonton noodle station. Big ups to the truffled potato mash, that was probably my favorite savory side dish there. Desserts are usually my least favorite portion of any buffet, but they do a good job showcasing some serious variety here. There are pastries, fresh fruits, candied pieces, a macaron tower, and even a fondue fountain. That's not to say that all sweet tooths will be conquered, this is Asia after all. Having been to a fair number of hotel buffets in Tsim Sha Tsui, I can safely attest that Harbourside is indeed among the better ones. For the variety alone, it's a glutton's paradise but the view is virtually unbeatable. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

A lot of people love having the lobsters and the cold seafood bar. The bar in my most recent visit seems a bit messy and not as much variety of the types of seafood begin offered. The staff here are always very pleasant. There are servers walking around with bottles and bottles of champagne ready to top you up before you're on empty. They keep the bubbles coming so you don't even think about eating the food? That seems to be a tactic that worked on me. I didn't notice the downfall of the food until my buzz wore off. The brunch is one of the longer ones compared to other places. You can be seated starting 11:30 and the last drop of bubbly would be poured into your glass at 3:00. The cost of the buffet also covers you a drink at the end of your meal should you want a latte or tea to finish you off.

The decor was nothing fancy, but spacious and comfortable. The buffet was a grand total of $185, with the 10% included. Now, I'm not usually a fan of buffets because I'll be guaranteed to overeat, and my overstuff stomach now is proof. I haven't been to a BBQ buffet ever, but I was quite impressed with the selection. Firstly, we were served tea as promptly as we were seated. The selection of meats ranged from all cuts of beef, chicken, pork, sausages and seafood such as fish, squid, shrimp, cuttlefish. You really couln't complain about the meats selection. The veg selection was much smaller in comparison, I would've loved to see more, but in actuality, I probably wouldn't have eaten that much anyway. The sides selection was quite good. With the Korean sides such as anchovies and beansprouts, but also a few Chinese options like tofu, potatos, chicken feet, noodles and Chinese veg. The papaya and fungus hit the right spot for me. I wish I was hungrier as I would have definitely eaten more if I could. By dessert time, I was also feeling a slight discomfort in my stomach, and didn't get to try as many desserts as I'd liked. Everything was good, but the only reservations I had was about some of the meat. It gave me the impression that it may have sat out there for a while, as pools of bloody water was collecting at the bottom. And when we were cooking it, stuff oozed out of it that was indication about their having been defrosted. I avoided the chicken just in case. But in general all their meats were very well marinated. I didn't try their sushi as it wasn't in the prettiest form, but I saw a lot of other guests having them. I'd definitely recommend you go if you're famished, you will get a full belly for sure! Mostly residential, with some factories and small businesses (including a Maserati and Ferrari dealership! Rents be skyrocketing, yo.) This place was virtually unheard of except for the most die hard of locals, until some media personality type decided to share the scoop. Fortunately I have family living nearby who took me here and declared it one of the best eats in the area. Unfortunately one visit is not enough, but I am not sure when I will get back here again. Too many visitors to Hong Kong get caught up in the generics....HK cafe, dim sum, or Michelin star dining. It is an utter shame, considering the blue collar delights, as well as the true hard core grassroots part of Hong Kong, also have their culinary pleasures. And it is best to understand things from the ground up, and in order to do that, one must dive in and immerse in the flavors of the 'hood and what it has to offer. The difficulty is navigating to them, a lack of understanding of local food, and of course the language. It is easier to pick up cuss words, than it is to order proficiently at a neighborhood stir fry and seafood restaurant (or you can eat great food and hear random cussing in places like this, but not during my visit). Too many choices...placard menu, or look at the handwritten specials plastered along the wall. No brainer, pay the fee (not expensive) and get a heaping steaming hot bowl of daily soup. The owner wakes up very early in the morning and goes to the nearby Ap Lei Chau market to purchase fish upwards of 3 times a day, then also goes across the strait to Aberdeen side (there is a giant wholesale fish market there too). Old school man in his 70s reasons that the daily catches change depending on what the fishermen have, thus the need to go regularly, and he doesn't want to miss out (plus he doesn't go online and check social media, and the fishermen don't Tweet their catches). So the soup stock is made with lower end (but fresh) wild local catch. Can you imagine how ridiculous good that is? Throw in some root vegetables, ginger, scallion and it's magic. The restaurant normally has lots of styrofoam tanks outside filled with live and kicking seafood, so you can pick what you want. Unfortunately during my visit it was slim pickins, but we ended up with a small wild fish of the grouper family, and had that mofo steamed with soy sauce, oil, scallions. Really hard to top local cooking, local ingredients, where fish has fish flavor (unlike the farmed commercial varieties at our California Cantonese seafood restaurants) and the sauce is heavenly when splattered over a bowl of steamed white rice. Stir fry....so we wanted some wok stir fry plate. What to get? No brainer... 生炒骨 (sweet and sour spareribs). Very nice execution on this one. Not a single drop of excess goopy sauce (and not cornstarch enhanced). This is the OG shiznit version, and not the moo shoo poo poo doo doo that you find abroad. Beef fried rice was rather textbook, but still hit the spot. I don't remember the total amount of the bill, but it was very reasonable.
