Not sure why this restaurant is so hyped up when it's really so mid. The restaurant is in a dank…read morebasement that is absolutely freezing and everyone kept their jackets on. The bathroom was also super weird, narrow and awkward and so dark that you can't see anything. Of the 2 stalls only one of them had toilet paper in a little roll that wasn't even properly attached to the toilet paper holder. The overall vibe is loud, "club-like," and kind of ratchet, there was a table quite far away from us but the customers were so clearly drunk and loud that the entire restaurant could hear them. We haven't even gotten to the food-- which was below average all around. We had pre-ordered the typhoon crab in advance and it was very expensive, was so over-seasoned, and the crab was not fresh at all. The bbq roast pork (char siu) was okay but incredibly oily and we couldn't finish it. The only passable entree was the fish, but even that was just a steamed fish and nothing to write home about. The service was okay, nothing spectacular but polite enough. The other nice thing was that we got these cute little mah jong desserts and I liked that the outside wall of the restaurant was decorated in mah jong pieces. But overall, this restaurant was my least favorite during our Hong Kong trip and it's just overhyped.

Service is friendly and relatively efficient. But for this price point and the coveted Michelin star, I would expect more. The food quality is so-so. The chicken wings were tender but lacking in depth of flavor. Just salt and a ton of chili peppers. The char shu roasted pork was ok. It wasn't as greasy as others but it was also a bit dry. It was really no better than any other roasted pork we found at random restaurants all over HK. The crispy cheong fan noodles were a bit greasy but flavorful and different. Let's talk about pricing. We went on a Sunday night and we booked early so we did not have a minimum spend. But it seems any bookings now have an 800HKD/pp minimum. They slap a 10% service charge on everything and they basically require you to buy an 88HKD bottle of water. Sorry, they're just not that good.

My husband took me out for a meal here on a Friday evening. The décor and lighting was beautiful…read moreand we were led to our table. We had many staff ask after our order but we took a very long time to choose. One of the staff eventually advised us on their best and most popular meals and we ordered the soft shell crab salad, the grilled beef salad and the crispy whole snapper. The food was DELICIOUS. I'm not a crazy fan of Indonesian food or at least I thought I wasn't but the meat was soft and succulent and the sauces and all the ingredients were just divine. Thinking about it is making my mouth water. Service was very attentive and gracious and most importantly the music was perfect. Admittedly probably my taste but more important than that, at least last Friday, was that it wasn't too loud and overpowering. I could have a nice conversation with my husband without having to shout but still had the pleasant ambience of good music playing in the background. I can't imagine it would be too pleasant a meal if the ambience as well as the food hadn't been so perfect.

Relatively reasonably priced cocktails, plenty of vegetarian options and a chic space - the place was good. The drinks and the food, both impressive. The pomelo salad with lime leaf, banana blossom, cucumber and Vietnamese mint was nice and refreshing. The Vietnamese mint has something extra to it, that I quite like. The banana blossoms added that earthiness. Thai dry yellow curry of minced impossible meat with lemongrass was a hit. You could wrap that up in the lettuce cups they served, but I happily ate it without it (because coronavirus and I preferred not to use my hands). Saag burrata - the palak paneer or saag paneer, with burrata instead of paneer was very well executed. Pad thai tasted good, but could've been saucier, if I may. The red curry with pumpkin, tofu, long beans and okra hit the spot on taste and creaminess. The moong dal palak tadka - Indian lentils, while good weren't as great as I can prepare at home. (Yeah, modesty goes for a toss :p) The nasi goreng is hard to mess up and was decent. The only disappointment on the food was stir-fried okra. It didn't taste or look stir-fried and was very raw. If it were just the hubster and I, I would've probably have it re-done.  The drinks were refreshing and tasted well. I had one Hot Mama -gin, ginger, chili and homemade ginger beer with dried citrus fruit. This was followed by a Lemon Chilli Martini - vodka, limoncello, pink grapefruit and lemongrass syrup with chilli and again, dried citrus fruit.  The hubster had a Pineapple Kaffir Lime Margarita - tequila, triple sec, pineapple juice and kaffir lime leaves with a dried slice of pineapple.  After a quiet dinner, it was quite a task to get the children to wrap up and get home.  Pictures on the blog - thevegetarianvoyager

Having opened for around half a year now, SAAM is still relatively unknown, which in my opinion, is…read morequite a pity. The culprit may be part location part marketing. But given the fame and popularity of its neighbour The Globe, I think SAAM needs to hire a better PR. The food here is very nice, the menu is well designed and you can taste the consideration and thought poured in. Even the cocktails are quite thought-out and innovative, the "Parmesan" was definitely a hit for me! You can feel the passion when the waiters talk to you and explain the story behind each dish. I ordered every appetizer (you can refer to my photos) and they were all spectacular. In my opinion, this is a very promising semi-new restaurant with a big heart and deserves a lot more attention than it currently receives.

As a student of Gordon Ramsay, the head chef chooses his ingredients carefully and created a menu that's serves a variety of meat, herbs, seafood, unique sauces and a great selection of wines and cocktails. We ordered almost everything from their menu that night which included beef tartare, oysters, abalone, cuttlefish, lamb, spatchcocks, foie gras and of course dessert! The way every dish is presented and how you can taste each individual ingredient makes this place so special. Words simply cannot describe how awesome this place is, you really need to try it yourself. I really want to continue typing, but it really doesn't serve the dishes, the venue and the chef any justice.

Just typing about it makes me salivate! The spices used in the grilled fish are exactly the type in China that makes your lips go numb after a while. Many places can "cheat" by making the presentation fancy with lots of peppers and cilantro on top when the fish can be small. But this place does not do that and instead serves up a sizable fish. (We had 12 people in our group and we were full.) This place is not cheap but in Hong Kong, you usually get what you paid for. This was one of our best meals on this trip to Hong Kong.

There are so many featured dishes on the menu that it's hard to try them all in one go, and I am definitely coming back to try more. I went with a group of 5, and still felt like there were a ton of dishes we wanted to try but were too full, so would definitely recommend coming here with a big group. The main stars of our meal were the spicy whole fish and Peking duck. I loved the spicy whole fish - you can choose the type of spice, as well as add on a variety of optional ingredients (e.g. Vegetables, tofu) to add to the fish as a sort of side, cooking in the flavorful sauce that comes with it. The fish comes in a huge metal tray with a fire lit under, so it is kept constantly steaming, and is so flavorful and juicy. The Peking duck was also solid. Besides those main dishes, we also ordered a variety of smaller dishes like skewers, vegetables to round out the meal. The place overall felt super hip, with a ton of young people, and I would recommend making a reservation to avoid the long long wait that seems to inevitably come with restaurants HKers collectively decide are trendy. I felt like this restaurant really lived up to its promise implied by its name of Farmer & Fish, serving up variety without sacrificing quality and being confusing.
