Called on 3/20 to ask if they might be able to offer a small gift card or merchandise donation for our local nonprofit organization's upcoming fundraiser, and was met with a long sigh and a "look, man, I'm gonna be honest with you, I really don't think my supervisor's gonna care" - a polite "we don't offer that, sorry" followed by a "no worries at all" from myself like I've exchanged with other businesses works a lot better. As someone who's been on both ends of nonprofit organizations - the person in need and the person providing it - this was very a jarring. Needless to say, I don't exactly feel welcome coming in to make a purchase either now if this is how their employees speak to people. read more

My friends and I were traveling back from a day trip in Vermont. We're from Connecticut but stopped at this liquor store on the way home as our hometown stores would have been closed by the time we got back. Alana and Jess had an awesome attitude and were super helpful and friendly! Saw the supervisor (Jess) deal with an extremely difficult customer with grace and kindness! We used their services for our wedding and it could not have gone better! Andy, the owner personally took time for us, and was patient with all our requests and adjustments. One of his managers, Bryan was also outstanding in helping us make our day seamless. Liquors 44 delivered our beer, wine and iced coolers on time and perfectly. The thing that attracted me to this liquor store is its location. I've been here a couple of times now and while the selection is impressive ( all depending on what you're looking for, I enjoy beer and wine) I can't say that I've had to best experience with the service. I love the beer selection here, and its a great place to experiment and try new things to expand your palate, if that's something your into, and sometimes they have some killer sales going on ( I find these sales to be random). However there are other liquor, beer and or wine stores in the western mass area that have better customer service and a more knowledgeable staff, perhaps that's just my experience. One last thing that's bothered me, I've just moved up into this area from Texas so naturally I have an out of state license and anytime I go to the register to check out I am always asked for a second form of identification. I understand that perhaps some college kids will buy a fake id so it didn't faze me the first couple of times. What got to me was that I felt that I was being a loyal customer and coming in , what I'd consider, fairly often. Enough to recognize certain staff members at the register, but I was always asked for a second form of id ( which all I've got is my old university id) from the same people over and over and over again. So I say that while this is a great place to browse for someone who might just want something cheap or maybe is looking for something different and wants a store that has a wide selection this is a great place to go to. But if you're in the market for something specific I wouldn't recommend going to other locations where the staff might be more knowledgable. read more

Sometimes prices are worth not going to local businesses, but not this time! I am fed up with Liquor 44 "store policies" that are only sometimes applied to me, and apparently keep on getting stricter, and quite illogically so. I may look young and am foreign, but I am of legal age to be buying alcohol in this country, and neither things is any reason to discriminate. Liquor 44 has been progressively ramping up their store policies in terms of the forms of ID acceptance. Originally, I had no problem buying alcohol from them. I suspect that this had something to do with an inspection or something, but as of recently, they've really pushed it too far. At first my ID works fine, like it's supposed to. Then, I hear from my cashier that Liquor 44 does not take out-of-state non-driver IDs. Then I start bringing my *internationally recognized as a form of ID* passport, but funnily enough much like my ID, after a few trips even that that is no longer enough. As of my most recent trip with my passport, I am told that they also don't take foreign passports. (Just a note here, this passport may be foreign, but it is written in the roman alphabet, and thus perfectly legible to someone who understands what a date of birth looks like. Year, Month, Day. Really not that hard.) I am furious at the stuff I've put up, and will no longer be patronizing the store. read more

They sold our reserved keg before our wedding even after they confirmed our reservation. I am extremely disappointed in Northampton Liquors 44. My fiancé went to pick up our kegs the day before our wedding to discover that Liquors 44 sold our specialty keg of Abandoned Building Lola's Saison! The manager was rude and not very helpful offering a different choice but oh low and behold all the ones my fiancé wanted were "reserved"! After all of this they forgot to ring up the taps and we had to go back. Not the type of stress you need before your wedding! read more

whenever i'm waiting in line (like even behind several people) they make me put whatever i'm buying down in order to show them my ID. this seems unnecessary as i am waiting in line and will clearly show my ID once i get to the counter. have stopped patronizing the establishment just because of how uncomfortable this makes me. read more
