It sits on the eastbound side of US 290 as you're passing through Manor. It is a liquor store, but the owner enlarged the interior by including a smoke shop into it as well. From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but once inside you see a very impressive inventory of fine spirits. You'll find an excellent selection of single malt scotches, tequilas, mixers, and bourbons , but the cognac selection was pretty low end. I was pleased to find one of my favorites, Buffalo Trace, and the price was quite reasonable. You'll also find cold beer, including a decent selection of craft beer along with plenty of vape products. This store would give the larger box liquor retailers a run for their money. Fennel-forward, softly licorice-laced, and astonishingly smooth for a spirit tipping the scales at a 100 proof, it blossoms into a milky cloud when you add a splash of icy water, which is perfect for winding down after dinner, on a hot Texas Summer evening. Better yet, this Israeli treasure costs just under $20.00, punching far above its price class. Around Central Texas, Arak can be harder to track down than a free table at Franklin Barbecue, yet Spec's in Elgin keeps it reliably stocked. The shop itself still feels like genuine small-town Texas, tidy shelves, wide aisles, and staff who greet you like neighbors rather than checkout robots. Need pairing advice? They'll walk you straight to the bottle and swap stories on the way. What other words, the Staff, Spec's best. One tiny favor I need from you, let's keep this discovery our little secret. They do have a wall of wine, but it does not compare to the selection that you'd find at the H-E-B just down the road. They also have a limited craft beer selection, but they do have a public bathroom. The prices here are also a little higher than what you would expect to find at the big box retailers. Stop in if you need something, but it isn't a place to go out of your way to take a visit. I've been here a couple of times and it us always a good stop. The cleaning is immaculate. It's bright without being stark and I don't think I've seen a single speck of dust. The staff are all consistently friendly and unobtrusive. I don't know if I've ever been helped by the same person though. You can take a couple of classes at Total Wine, but I have yet to try it out. It looks pretty fun from what little I've spied on. Husband and I have a well stocked bar cart mostly thanks to this location. I'm sure it's the best for everyone who lives nearby.
