Going into any bookstore is dangerous (my partner and I could spend an entire pay check in one- not…read moreto mention also being able to spend days looking at everything). We love going to smaller independent bookstores but once a year or so, we go to bigger stores like Indigo/Chapters for a date. It had been over a year since we had visited this store and it was so much fun! The service was great, from the cashier being super polite to another staff member ensuring everyone was personally told about the tables full of the best sales. The prices are great as they always have 3 for $10 book sales. We were going to enjoy their cafe area on the second floor but we had worked up an appetite so we went to Quesada's nearby instead. We plan on going back during the winter to fully enjoy the hot beverages from the cafe for a cozy experience but truly- if it's been a while since you've picked up a book, go roam the aisles, look at the books, toys, home products, music, stationary, candles, clothing.... They have everything. If you're ever looking for a different gift idea for anyone, there's bound to be SOMETHING here. Now... it's time to read one of the 8 new books I got.

When I'm in the West Island and have a few minutes to spare or I'm looking for a book, I will drop…read moreby here which would generally be on a weekend or on a day that I don't have to work (since there is a large Indigo bookstore near where I work). This Chapters is located in a parking mall and is quite large. Along with selling books and magazines, they sell some electronic items including iPod Touches, iPads, Fitbits, fitness trackers, and Kobo eReaders. There is free WiFi but you must either be a Bell Mobile customer or you must be a member of their Plum Rewards (free) program or their iRewards (paid) program. If you are a Bell Mobile customer, you enter your phone number and you get an SMS with the code/instructions to log into their WiFi so unless you have an SMS plan with Bell, you will be dinged for the incoming SMS. There are some chairs scattered around the store where patrons can sit and look through the books before deciding whether they want to purchase it or not. Upstairs, there is also a Starbucks coffee shop with tables & chairs. I'm not sure if you're allowed to take your books/magazines into this area (which you haven't purchased yet) but I just wouldn't feel comfortable doing this. I've always found the staff to be very helpful here.

Magi-Prix - Brets chips (from France).

The Long Version: I love discount stores and dollar stores, so I had to pop into Magi-Prix during my latest trip to Laval. It has a dollar store feel, but items are more than a dollar (although even stores that call themselves dollar stores these days rarely have anything that's only a dollar anymore. Most things are more than a dollar). They have furniture and I actually saw a few cool pieces, but nothing that I really needed. I was most impressed by their food section. They had lots of imported goods. They had teas from Germany, cookies from France and chips from France too. I ended up buying 2 boxes of tea from Sri Lanka. One was a green tea with soursop and banana flavours. I've never seen this flavour combination and admittedly it sounds strange, but more the reason to get it, right? Lol. The other was a black tea with ginger. It's rare to find a black tea with just ginger flavour. Many add lemon and honey. And some add lemongrass and/or licorice. So I was thrilled to find a plain tea and ginger. I was eyeing the Brets chips. They were $4.50 each, and had lots of unusual flavours, but I didn't find a flavour I had to try. They had halal gummies too. Worth a stop if you like treasure hunting at discount stores like I do. Free parking in the plaza parking lot. Review #93 (2025)

Wolf's Den - Authentic Moccasins of the best quality!

We bought 3 pairs of mocassins here (and a couple pairs at Iron Horse too) over 10 years ago. And…read morethey're all only NOW starting to need replacement. My bf's pair in particular is getting to be in dire need of replacement. I decided to surprise him with a brand new pair for Christmas, though he knows I'm in the process of knitting him a pair of slippers (which will be rightfully ignored with the new mocassins!) Needless to say I wasn't going to bother with some cheap a$$ faux mocassins somewhere else, I knew I had to find the place we originally bought them. I could not remember the name of the place nor exactly where they were in town and so instinct was my driver. The first turn was right, but then I lost myself somewhere down the unmarked residential streets of town and had just resigned myself to heading back home over the bridge, with the intention of just telling my bf about the thoughtful gift I couldn't quite get on Christmas morning. When what to my wondering eyes did appear: " Wolf's Den, Mocassins, Gifts, Beads etc. ", instinct took the wheel and signaled left and turned in. I was not at all on the road I remembered it being on and first turned down. I had only gotten there because I got lost and decided to give up and go home empty handed. Christmas miracle folks. I walked in.. And knew I was in the right place. The service was fabulous, they were happy to hear my tale about their mocassins lasting over 10 years and to help me find a brand new pair. Then they told me it's an extra 10% off (on top of tax being included) for the last week before Christmas sale! They totally could have charged full price and I would have been happy to oblige. On top of authentic mocassins at super reasonable prices, they also sell plenty of beading material, furs for crafting, jewellery, clothing, souvenirs etc. Definitely worth checking out! I will be back, sooner rather than later to replace my own pair too!
