I love Lin's Mandarin - this must be the best Chinese food in the area! I love the shrimp fried rice and Kung Bao chicken. The portions are massive, especially when you dine in. Speaking of dining in, the restaurant is small, but quaint. I have mainly dined there in the evenings, so we usually get decent service. We did make a mistake of going there for an early Saturday dinner and it was packed, so the service was slow. The food, fortunately, was still top notch. This is a family owned business and everyone contributes to customer service. This means that your food will be delivered to your table as soon as it is ready. When you first walk in you'll grab for your wallet because it appears that you're entering an upscale price gauging establishment, but that is not the case. This spot is conveniently located near where I work, so it makes for an opportune lunch spot. How can you pass up the $5.25 lunch special?! This comes with a choice of soup and rice along with the entree. There are plenty of options, and they seem to remember the people that come in often and what they like. They are pretty friendly as well. The food comes out quick and they can adjust to your spicyness level. If you order delivery or carryout you can easily eat it for 2-3 days because the portions are very nice and large. Placed an order for delivery to my hotel room. Friendly staff and the prices were good for someone on a budget. The dish I ordered was the sesame chicken dinner which includes an egg roll. The sesame chicken was ehhhh OK, had quite a bit of grizzle in my chicken which wasn't appetizing. The egg roll was pretty good. I also ordered crab ragoons which were ok too. Was in town for a few days, for business and craved some chinese food. Coming from LA, probably where the best chinese food can be found, I honestly kept my expectations realistic. But you know what? The food was very decent. I took the food to go - Mongolian beef (the lady who took my order recommended it) and the salt & pepper shrimp. So why just an "A-OK"? Well the main reason is because the flavors of the dishes, while good, are not what I'm used to eating. The mongolian beef doesn't quite resemble any mongolian beef dishes I've had growing up. And Lin's taken the liberty to re-interpret the salt & pepper shrimp dish. So, not bad. It may even be great for the midwest palate. But the food is not quite authentic. I usually get the orange chicken or kung pao shrimp (big shrimps and lots of them!!!) depending on my mood for spicy or sweet with a little bit of spice. Their egg rolls are probably the best I've ever had! Always comes out piping hot and delicious!!! The portions are huge and the food is excellent! The delivery took an 1 hr and 20 mins. They are 5 minutes from my office. We have ordered from them often but today they were so bad, i called there twice to find out what was taking so long? The driver mentioned nothing, so when I said he took and 1hr and 20 mins to deliver he stated he was SUPER busy today, so I told him that I was SUPER hungry today - I feel like the ownership changed or something did here because they used to be fast and half way decent. This makes me sad because the next best option is Fong's and after eating fong's you feel "Fonged". The prices are very inexpensive but portions are large. I am picky when it comes to egg rolls because I do not like them with shrimp but their egg rolls are very good. Just went there tonight. Not sure if they changed hands or not but the service was terrible. And i dont usually rate a resraurant for service, but it was terrible. They screwed up our order and even people around us had problems. We even heard dome takeout order that was missing... The good news is the food was still good... I love Lin's Mandarin!!! When we first moved to the area, 7 years ago, we tried out all of the Chinese places near us. They all sucked, until we found Lin's. They have huge portions and delicious food. We order from them a couple times a month and have never been disappointed. They also have extremely fast delivery!!! We order and about 15 minutes later, it's here. It's further than several other places we order takeout from, but they always beat them in delivery time. This was an impromptu stop for comfort food on a snowy night - we got them just before closing time, but they were very pleased to see us for a carry-out order. Offered us some hot tea while our food was prepared. Of the items we ordered, the salt&pepper smelt was most pleasing, followed by the fried rice (lots of different stuff in the mix). I really wanted to like them, but I just couldn't. I ordered fried rice, eggrolls, and tofu kung bao. The fried rice was way too salty which was so disappointing. Next up the kung bao tofu, that was just as horrible of not worst. Lastly, the eggrolls well they were actually the best part of the meal. A tad bite greasy but really crunchy as flavorful inside. Rich; the owner really knows how to take care of the customers. He never charges any corkage fees and you can bring in any kind of your favorite beverage in with you and they will supply the glasses. I love this place and order about 3-5 times a month from Lin's! I order mostly vegetarian / seafood dishes since I don't eat meat (red or white) but have friends do so I see them all! Great! The Hunan beef was so generic and mediocre. It wasn't what I was expecting. It looked like it could be served as a different beef entree. Generic. The hot n sour soup looked like a lot of cornstarch was used. It looked different from the usual. I had to put some water in it when I heated it up later to be okay. The way a business presents themselves really speaks volumes to me. We ordered from here the other night and when we brought the food inside we realized it was incorrect. We ordered fried beef potstickers and house special fried rice for my husband (which was correct) and vegetarian spicy broccoli for me. When I opened the container I saw it was spicy beef broccoli. Immediately I called to make sure that I hadn't taken someone else's dinner. He looked at my ticket and realized the girl at the restaurant had wrote it down incorrectly but that he would have someone bring me the correct dish right away. He totally made my night especially getting back out in the snow. Every time they come the delivery people are so nice and they all deserve a wonderful tip. I was shocked to see the rave reviews for Lin's. Call me fussy. Call me a food snob. Either way - I found the food to rather mediocre. In fact, I think it fell on the less than mediocre side. I had my first Lin's experience and it totally fell short. I work right down the street and have been avoiding Lin's for quite some time. Despite how coworkers rave about it, I had one bad experience with takeout and I vowed never to return. Or so I thought. Let's start with the food. Yes, the prices for lunch (and dinner) are very reasonable. My guess is because the ingredients they use (particularly the meat) are questionable at best. Lunch options come with your choice of egg drop, wonton, or hot and sour soup. I went for the wonton (filled with pork). It wasn't the greatest thing I've ever eaten, but it wasn't terrible. My coworker opted for the hot and sour soup. We both found it tasted like sweaty gym shoes that had been sitting in a hot locker for 3 days. No exaggeration. There was a horrible pungent odor and taste that neither of us could get past. As for my entrée, I ordered Szechwan chicken with steamed rice. I was fine with the sauce and veggies, but couldn't handle the chicken. Let's put it this way, if what I had eaten had been in fact poultry, I would be shocked. I tried my coworker's General Tso's chicken and tasted the same rubbery chicken wrapped in a gargantuan sized blanket of dough and sticky sauce. As for service and ambiance - once again, nothing special. The service was fast and I never had to ask for my water refilled. However, our waitress didn't seem to know what was in half of the dishes. The décor is definitely outdated and in massive need of an overhaul. Final thoughts - You get what you pay for, and in Lin's you definitely sacrifice quality. In the Norridge area, there are definitely better options. read more

We ordered the Hunan beef, the Cashew chicken and the Mongolian chicken and an order of egg rolls. All this for $19 and change (excluding tip). We placed our order on-line and also used our I-Phone to pay. This place has great technology. We dubitated about ordering from here, but we trusted the fellow Yelp community. My Mongolian chicken was not loaded with sodium, so I was very happy. The Hunan beef was hot (as in spicy heat), but it had enough of a kick without clearing your sinuses. The beef was very flavorful and satisfying. It wasn't rubbery like another Yelper stated, so I don't know WTF she was smoking that day! I was super fain with what I had. Also, the egg roll was not greasy. The exterior was crispy and it didn't taste like it was cooked in stale oil or burnt oil. The interior was loaded with vegetables (no meat of any kind). The ratio of onions and scallions for the Mongolian chicken was the perfect amalgamation. This is not a 5-star "as good as it gets" restaurant, but I am definitely a fan for several reasons. The vegetables were fresh and had the right "bite" (not overcooked and soggy). I have a sensitivity to sodium. I really do not care for salty foods. A lot of Chinese restaurants that we have eaten at use tons of sodium. I am not a huge fan of Chinese food for this reason. However. this Chinese restaurant seasoned their food in such a way that made it plain delectable. I didn't taste tons of salt. Our dinner also came with a small cup of soup (either Wonton or Egg Drop). We all got the Wonton soup and it was 4-star worthy as was my Mongolian chicken. If we are ever in this area again, for any reason, I would definitely stop in again. We had an enjoyable dinner. We were in the area for an appointment, so we decided to try this place based on some of the Yelp reviews. This restaurant is located on the west side of Cumberland just a tiny bit south of Foster Avenue. It is a few doors away from Dunkin' Donuts, Subway and Elly's Pancake. The parking lot is fairly large and we had no problem finding a spot even though the lot was fairly crowded. The restaurant can use an update. Yes, it looks like it has been left back in the early 1990's. However, I appreciated that it is clean, semi-quiet with adequate lighting making it easy to read the menu. As you enter the restaurant, there are several booths to the right of the restaurant, with a very small bar on the left side toward the rear. They do not serve alcoholic drinks here. Instead the bar is used for making smoothies. I suppose you could bring your own wine (BYOW), but we didn't see anyone drinking wine or beer. Whatever! This is a family-owned restaurant. The family members are hard working people who truly care about their customers. Service was hospitable and prompt. Water glasses were filled without asking, and extra napkins were placed on the table when our food arrived. Hot tea was placed on the table as soon as we sat down, and wow, it was the best tea I've had at a Chinese restaurant. Bar-none! read more

We ordered from here Thursday the food was very good. In fact it is the best Chinese food we have had in the area. I would highly recommend giving them a try. Our order came on time and was correct and they give out a generous amount of sauce with your food. We order beef and chicken fried rice, pot stickers, beef and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls and shrimp egg food young. If you live in the Park Ridge area, you know good Chinese is pretty much impossible to find. My bf and I had all but given up on trying when we went here. It's pretty amazing. Probably the best egg rolls I've ever had, and close to the best crab rangoon ever too. Really fair prices ($3 for rangoon? Unheard of!), and a really nice staff. Very small place, and when we went someone on the staff must've had family visiting...which was actually quite entertaining to watch them so excitedly interact while who I assume is the manager kept telling them to be quiet while we (the only ones in there) were eating. I got the Kung Bao Chicken and my fiancé got the Hunan Chicken. We both were very disappointed. The majority of My Kung Bao was huge pieces of zucchini and water chestnuts, it wasn't even spicy!
