We just went back to Link for a water heater. They worked hard to help us pick one that meet our requirements. Because of the layout of the house, we couldn't install a high efficiency unit. That limited our choices. We decided that if we couldn't get a high efficiency unit, we'd get one that doesn't require any electricity. We don't lose power often; but when we were out for several days a few years back and had no heat, it was really nice to have hot water. We paid more than we would have if we'd bought one at a big box store, but every I can tell the difference between brass and plastic. read more

Had a heat pump installed by this company and I wished I had gone with a reputable company. Initially, the electrical work was done incorrectly, which caused the system to fail multiple times. They replaced my thermostat with a poor quality, failure ridden replacement (Tekmar) which cause me to spend ours troubleshooting with customer service reps. When you call for service you have to wait weeks with no communication from central office whether someone is coming or not and management is MIA! They do not respond to customer concerns or questions. The only movement was within the first 30 days of installation which must have something to do with CT lemon laws. I will be contacting the state's consumer protection agency to see what remedies I have to address a system that now I don't know if it was even installed correctly. If you are a home owner looking to have a heat pump installed stay clear of this company. *Response: Had you returned my calls or came to cared about my concerns you would now who I am. I am still waiting for someone to respond to my issue. I am a Link customer. Called a almost 2 weeks ago. Told I would hear from someone last week. I'm still waiting. Link Mechanical sold me a $20,000 system that I was assured was under warranty for 10 years. The compressor just went after 9 1/2 years and Carrier will not recognize the 10 year warranty because Link never registered their install of the system they sold me. The salesperson who assured me of the warranty and that I didn't have to do anything is no longer employed there. Link will do nothing to make this right. Give your business to other more reputable companies. Link Mechanical installed a new air conditioning compressor on the roof of our building in downtown Hartford. The install was done properly, and for reasons not related to their workmanship, the unit was dripping in our bathroom ceiling. Link tried several times to fix it, and the leak persisted. Finally Chris Link came out, looked at the ruined ceiling tiles and stained walls, and said "We'll make it right." Their crews tore out the old ceiling, created an entirely new system from the bottom up, replaced the ceiling tiles, painted the walls, and installed a light over the sink. I'm sure they lost a lot of money on this job. Hats off to their crew, and to Chris Link, for being as good as their word and doing great work. read more

When our heat suddenly stopped working we called our gas co to ask for a service company. They unfortunately sent us to LINK. They must be getting a kick back. Never again. This has taught us to do our research first. But when you are worried about not having heat in the coldest part of the winter, you sometimes act too quickly and hope there are honest and ethical companies out there. LINK came and spent a couple hours assessing the furnace, going to Hartford to pick up a part, and then returning to finish the job. He said our transformer blew and that we also had two bad dampers. It should be a clear sign when a company hands you an iPad with options with stages of fixing. You can fix it for a really high price, a mid level price or a low price. They name the lowest price "Band Aid Fix". So we went for the $1800 Band Aid. There is no breakdown of what you are actually paying for. LOL. We asked for a breakdown (too late I know) and were told "we don't have one" by the technician. "But you signed off on it." Hmmm. Sounds honest and ethical. You did a job but you can't tell me how you arrived at the price. Not acceptable. We called the office the next day and also asked for a breakdown of the costs. Nothing except "You signed off on it". So thanks for the lesson LINK. I learned a lot. I hope all who read this review don't learn the hard way. Do your research even if you feel like it is an emergency. Read reviews, ask friends, never ever get mechanical service without a breakdown you can get a second opinion on, and don't use a company that titles its work as "Band Aid" And yes Chris, in response to your response, our issue is that you overcharged for the job in terms of parts and labor...and you could not give a breakdown of the job. We have no problem with the technician or what was done. And as for me having words with your tech, you are absolutely wrong. That is false. All I said is "wow, that is high. We've used link in the past and they performed a good job. However, my current experience was very poor. On Saturday Nov 3, 2012, my furnace wasn't blowing hot air and I had a technician come on site. The technician was very professional, diagnosed it as a broken control board and blower motor. He didn't have the parts in the van but said the office would provide an estimate. Since I didn't hear from them, I called them on Monday afternoon and was told that they're busy but will get to it as soon as possible. Still no response by Thursday so I called again. On Friday, my wife called as she was frustrated. It's now 11 days after the original visit, 3 follow-up calls and no estimate. I'm going to start calling other companies but feel that Link took my money (over $300) for a diagnostic visit and won't complete the job. Update - Finally received an estimate after calling Link for the 4th and final time. Link's estimate was $1556. I felt that was high and rejected their offer. Called another company and they repaired the furnace in 3 days for under $700. read more

In May 2010, a Link technician was here to service my air conditioner. He was accompanied by a salesman who proceeded to sell the Mitsubishi Mini-Split, an energy saver, dehumidifier, heater and air cooler for the finished room in my basement. The unit cost $3,855. Since installation, it has cost me $1,173 for repairs to this system for leakages. I was assured that the problem was fixed. In April 2017, a Link technician detected another leak during his annual service call. I was quoted another $1,179 to repair it. Back tracking, in 2012 I had a serious mold problem. I hired an environmental company and found that the only area with mold was in the room with the mini-split. Apparently the system was not operating properly at that time.The total cost to remove the mold was $4,200. In contacting the manufacturer Mitsubishi, I was told that Link did not call to trouble shoot the continuing problem. According to Mitsubishi, this should have been done by Link to find out why and where the leaks were. I have been a Link customer for a long time and I recently renewed my service contract. Right now I have a large hole in the wall and a useless unit. Link's solution to the problem is to sink another $1,200 into a unit that has already cost approximately $3,900 plus $1,200 in repairs. Link does not take responsibility and stand behind a product that they promote and sell. I have notified the Condo Association Management company of this situation so that other condo residents are aware of unacceptable Link service and customer care. read more

I purchased a new Mitsubishi Hyperheat Ductless Heat Pump system from Link and they installed it in October of 2021. This was the second heat pump they installed for me and I was happy with the many years of service I had with the original and happy with the install of the new system that upgraded the old. In late November, I experienced a major power surge and the entire heat pump system was affected. It took Link 90 days to completely restore the system to original working order. I was lucky to still have oil heat to stay warm with. In the end it was over $9,000.00 worth of damage. The parts were not readily available and it took weeks sometimes to keep moving forward on the repair. My take on this experience is that they were not entirely sure what was wrong and could not resolve it faster. I lost confidence in their ability to service and support what they sold. To be without such an expensive system for 90 days - the bulk of the heating season - was unacceptable. My caution to anyone buying a heat pump system. 1. Be sure you have a whole house surge suppressor. 2. The mitsubishi systems are efficient but complex, and obviously at high risk of cascading failure. Unlike other appliances, the risk of damage to these systems is much higher and more expensive. Link does not stock even basic parts and this will delay getting repairs done if anything happens to your system. 3. Keep your old heating system as a backup - they are simple and polluting, but they are tried and true. 4. Maybe there is a better heat pump contractor out there that would service what they sell and support faster than 90 days. Honestly thought they would have made this more of a priority for a repeat customer with a new system that was out of service. read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would I had them replace a boiler a few years back.... when they first came to install it they sent out a person that had never installed that type of boiler before and didn't know what he was doing and had to send out another person.... since then I have had to have them replace the controller Twice now and now the second time it's out on the unit and the serviceman is on his phone constantly trying to figure out what to do, and now they are charging me 800+ dollars to put a third unit in 4 years, because it's out of warranty... obviously something is wrong that the control unit keeps going.... do yourself a favor and find a different company.... read more

I saw in a review from 2014 that Jerry S. was so impressed that Chris Link himself came out to do the estimate. Psh....when you're sizing suckers up for the kill, you don't trust that to your minions. The head scammer himself does the talking. Our unit was older, and while the furnace worked fine, the central air unit was done. He convinced us that the entire system should be replaced. Fair enough, made sense. He quoted a little above 6K for it, which a quick check online seemed to stand up, so we said yes. We were told it would be done within a few days, once they got all the hardware together. Fair enough. 5 days later, we're calling asking where they are...oh, now it's going to be 2 months. (It's June now...90+ degrees). They'd already been paid so I said hell no, I want it NOW!. Finally, a week later, they show up. They did a good job of dismantling the old stuff and installing the new. No problem with that, but when I saw the new unit, it was HALF the size of the old one, and that concerned me greatly. "No, no no, they said, it'll work great!!! It's new & efficient!!" Not being an HVAC guy, I couldn't argue. Then I saw the name of the unit..."PAYNE"....never heard of them. "Oh, they're a sub brand of Carrier! They're GREAT!!!" (Made in Mexico) Uh-huh. Shame on me for waiting & doing my research after they left...I should have stopped them right then & there. Turns out that we got the crappiest, cheapest, most UN-efficient A/C/Heating unit on the market. You know those energy star ratings? This one is SO bad, it has a NEGATIVE Energy Star rating....I've never seen anything like that before.. And they're cheap too, under 2K, and the online reviews revealed that it DOES live up to its name....PAYNE (PAIN). Nothing but bad things to say about it. And sure enough within a week, it quit working, and they had to come back & fix some kind of Freon line on the outdoor unit. So, along with a two thousand dollar cheap, crappy, minimally warrantied unit (5 years only??), we paid FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS just for 8 hours labor. Four. Thousand. Dollars. I'm still so mad at them I could scream. Do not EVER, EVER call or trust these people. Or do so at your own financial risk. Oh, and as an added bonus.....our electric bill has almost DOUBLED!!! We were once without A/C and they came in to fix it quickly - much quicker than anyone else would. Scheduled a furnace cleaning/tune up with Link a month in advance. On the morning of my appointment on 11/28/18, Link calls me to cancel my appt because tech didn't show up to work. The only thing they could offer me was an apology and another appt another 2 weeks out. Asked to speak with Supervisor. Spoke with Michael Poole. Mike kept apologizing as well. I asked if he would offer a discount to make up for my inconvenience for the late cancel and having to arrange for time off work. The fact that I scheduled the appt a month in advance and took time off work for an appt that Link canceled the day of, speaks for itself. Mike refused to offer me a discount and the only alternative he could give me, was to reschedule my appt or sign up for their comfort club program, which requires me to pay more money. All I can say is 'Are you kidding me?' What a poorly run business, inconveniencing their customers. This experience did not leave a good impression with me at all. I had a service contract with this company, had an issue with water in my basement coming from the air conditioner. I called them, they came out and told me we needed to replace a chiller. Spent $1000 for them to fix this. Water continued to drip and I called them once again. it turned out my chiller did not need to be replaced it was a coil. Spent $3000 on a coil but they would only give me half back on the part that they replaced that did not need to be replaced. About 2 weeks after they replaced the coil, our air conditioner stopped working. I called them once again. Their technician came out who said it was now our condenser. He didn't even open up the hood of the condenser. Told us we need to replace the entire unit which would have been another $3000. We decided to call someone else who came out and actually did their job and for $300 they fixed the issue with the condenser. I would never recommend this company for anything. read more

Like the cable company, Link requires you to wait at home during a long window of time where they may show up...then after repeatedly bothering you to confirm in the weeks before and despite taking your credit card information, they call you once again when they decide they are ready to come out...except that, if you don't immediately answer or return the call they will "divert" the tech to another (more profitable emergency?) job. After missing work to sit around for these jokers (who bugged me repeatedly to confirm I would be home), they ultimately don't show at all. The further they have to travel the more likely they are not to show up. If you have a job you really need done, be careful that they don't do this to you (if you just miss the final call they will simply divert the tech). You are better off going with someone who has as much respect for your time and concerns as a customer, as they do for their bottom line as a company. read more
