First they don you with two capes and another item for your neck. Is it cold? They have a closet that warms up your jacket. Second they wash and massage your hair and your back in a massage chair. Next they cut your hair to your liking and walk you through the process - they will tell you what looks good and why. She does get pretty busy near the weekends though, so don't wait last minute like I did! The suite is located within the Delaney Salon, so when you enter, take a right and she's easy to find. I brought a picture of the long bob style I wanted and she was able to follow exactly what I wanted, even providing suggestions for my specific hair type. I know she was meticulous, taking approx an hour to make sure everything looked perfect. I was even impressed with the blowout at the end, I never felt the heat of the blow dryer against my scalp. See I have a Master's degree but in all honesty it is not worth the paper it's printed on. I'm a master of what exactly? I don't hone my skills. I don't read the latest in "Slacker Monthly." I have a title that will look good in my obituary and that's about it. What I do know is true masters work at their craft. They get better at it everyday. Being called Master isn't just frivolously tossed around like warm, flat beer at a frat party. It actually means something. It's a distinguished honor to be called master and Martha is a master. A Master Stylist. When I first arrived she wasn't there, but literally 30 seconds later she walks into Knockouts. Impressive. Confident. Professional. Within a minute, she greets me and takes me to her station located in the back. It was a semi-private station away from the other chairs. I felt like a MVP. I digress. That's a different men's hair-salon service. She started me off with a Heavyweight haircut which left me punch-drunk happy. Next, since I'm a man of a certain age, I wanted to mix it up and for the first time I get my hair colored. Martha was gentle for my first time. She took her time and put me at ease respecting both my concerns and nervousness. Total pro. I mean, DAMN, I look good. Lastly, Martha performed a deluxe pedicure which 12 days later still feels and looks great. My little lady appreciated that when I returned back from vacation and it was time for the shaking of the sheets. On a side note, I also must say the other stylists (women) in the salon that walked by us occasionally looked at me as if I was the sexist man on the planet. It's my story and dammit I'm convinced that is true because of the artistry Martha performed on me with our two hours together. I felt like a giant, handsome winner. Now the Cons: - Usually they keep you waiting a bit to start your appointment. The sense of timing is pretty flexible around here.
