The hemming at the bottom of the dress is cut at an angle and asymmetric. The length of the two sleeves she hemmed do not match. One is 15 inches and the other is 14.5 inches. The price was not cheap either. I'm lucky this was a casual city hall dress and not the actual wedding dress. Went here on the recommendation of a mutual. I had a lot of high hopes for this place but didn't live up to the standard. I called to make an appointment on Saturday. I needed the dress hemmed by next Friday and that my next availability would be Tuesday. She told me that it would be possible as it is just to hem the dress. I decide to bring in another dress that needed a hem to kill two birds with one stone. I really only needed 1 dress to be done quick, while the other one didn't need to be rushed. The total price for two dresses was $100 which I thought was absolutely ridiculous. I could have walked out but I really didn't have any other options as my time was running out. I'm curious if the price was so high because of the rush on the items, but there was literally nothing special about the pieces I had brought in. The material was easy to cut through, it didnt need any cinching, or other types of alterations. I hoped that the price would speak for itself, but ultimately I didn't think that $100 was worth the price. Ms Ling took my tired old hoodie and breathed new life into it! I really loved this hoodie I got over 20 years ago - fits me just right, is the right weight to wear year-round, and even my cat loves to cuddle with me when I'm wearing it... but the zippers were broken, the pockets were coming apart, holes were wearing into the elbows and the sleeves were fraying. After a good laugh at its condition, Ms Ling was able to work her magic - replaced the zippers and fixed the pockets, patched the elbows and reinforced the sleeve cuffs with her own material! I love that she didn't over sell me. She knew just what was needed and was confident. She was always smiling. My dress was done in a week (went in, in March, a month before the wedding). The price was super reasonable,I've had a wedding dress altered in the past and paid an arm and a leg, and I didn't love how it fit. Instead of telling you that when you walk in, she rudely taps on the sign, as if I walk by her business every day and should know that. The correct way to serve customers would be to say "I'm so sorry, we are appointments only. Can I get you scheduled for one?" I've used Lings before had a ok experience. I tried to go there today without an appointment, I figured if she was not with anyone then maybe she could squeeze me in... WRONG. She was waiting for an appointment at 11am I was there at 10:20, first she ignored me then when she finally opened the door she asked "was I the 11 o'clock appointment"? I said no but hoping you can squeeze me in just needed to drop off something. She would only say "would you like to make an appointment"? I said no that's ok and walked away. I have been using Ling's services for at least 15 years. She is always friendly and welcoming. Her service and expertise is great and she is extremely knowledgeable when it comes ti alterations. She will give you her honest opinion as far as whether or not she can do what you are asking. If she thinks it is not worth your money, she will be honest and not try to convince you ti do something if she thinks it won't look or fit right. It is appointment only, but she is pretty flexible. I had moved to CA recently to get marry and so I needed to find a local seamstress. I'd looked around and figured to support a local (& Asian) shop. I read all the reviews I could and decided to set up a consult with Ling. Normally brides book alterations 2-4 months in advance due to the busy season and to ensure a date. Ling suggested that it'd be best to book alterations at least 6 weeks out from the wedding date. This is because I will be closest to my size for the wedding day. It made sense to me and I was okay with it. Once I arrived to my appointment, I was dissatisfied and disappointed in what she was only able to do. My wedding dress material is crepe, with some boning on the inside- as a built in corset to keep the shape of the dress around my waist to the hips and also along the bust. She'd suggested to only adjusting the straps on the shoulders, add a bustle, and hem the length (for $350)! My dress also had straps that falls off to the side of my shoulders that need to be fitted more. She wasn't going to adjust those and said it's supposed to look like that! I had 1 inch gap between my arm and the straps off my shoulders. And the straps don't drape like what you think. It hugs onto your arms. I'd told her no, it's supposed to be slightly fitted as stated and shown to me at the bridal shop that I got my dress form. Plus there's an elastic band so it'll still be stretchy once adjusted. She then agreed to adjust those. I also wanted the extra material off the hips to be more fitted and she said no it looked fine and didn't need it done. I also needed the bust more stitched in because I have a smaller bust. The material on top of the bust kept sticking out. It didn't lie flushed along my chest. She said I can use double sided tape to tape down the material. I'd also requested for bra cups to be sew in my dress. I already had the cups that came with the dress but I wanted something with more support. She said it was fine and I can use just the stick-on bra cups that can be found on Amazon. I had also ordered a rhinestone belt off Etsy that was 2 inches too long. It had a hook clasp. The seller stated it can be adjusted. Ling looked at it and said no it can't because the hook was superglued and machine sew, not hand sew. She told me to buy the belts with the ribbon instead because it would be easier and I wouldn't have to worry about adjusting the belt. By this point I felt defeated. I couldn't also forget- that there was a huge black cockroach in the fitting room when I went back in to change. I killed it, of course. But after that I told Ling, she should probably get her place checked out. She stated that it came from outside, she's never had any issues. Some brides in the past have brought bugs/roaches in to the store because who know how long their dress was at the bridal shop before they got it. She pretty much implied that I brought in the cockroach! I told her, I've had my dress since Dec. and had taken it out multiple times at home to try it - with no issues of any bugs. Ling then said that the bugs stick to the bottom inside of the dress bag so I wouldn't see. How would I not see a huge cockroach in my bag or on my dress?! In my head, I didn't want to argue and was polite to apologize anyways and just let it go. Let's just say, I would of preferred to book in advance somewhere else! If I had known I would of booked back home and take the extra trip to fly back to get my dress altered correctly. I was so stressed and had to scramble to find another seamstress. Luckily I was able to find one that same day and had the consult. She knew exactly and saw what I wanted and needed done. The seamstress I went with was also willing to fix my belt. She said it is easy to fix! I saved $100 also (vs. what Ling quoted me). I'm sure other brides have had good experience at Ling's with their wedding dress but I did not. read more

Brought my brides maid dress here for alterations. My dress was ready in 2 weeks and paid a decent price for what I got done ( cut about 2-3 inches and stitched the top of my dress to cover up the girls). I just lost 20 lbs, and I need my pants taken in and fast! Cinching the belt is no longer cutting it. Hubby recommended a tailor in Fairfield, but I couldn't figure out who it was. My coworker recommended a cleaners she goes to in Suisun; she said it takes them 3-4 working days. Did I mention all my pants are falling off me? So I asked my best advice-giving friend, good ol' Yelp, for a recommendation. The reviews from Janine F. and Stacy K. were so helpful, I thought I'd give Ling's a try. I had my dress fitted Saturday Feb. 13 and picked it up Saturday Feb 20th. When I tried on the dress she didn't give me a moment to see if I liked it, she just kept telling me it was beautiful and fit perfectly. She was more concerned about taking my pictures than asking me how the dress fit. I contacted Ling's Alterations on Jefferson St. this morning Feb 23 as they are closed Sundays and Mondays and she is not willing to give me my money back for her unprofessional alterations and customer service. She was yelling at me on the phone and I was crying and she kept interrupting me and not listening to what I was saying. When I paid (in cash unfortunately) she took my receipt even though I asked to keep it so there's no proof of payment. The inside layer is hemmed too short and the sides aren't tight enough. My wedding is this Friday Feb. 26th so I was forced to find a different place to get it re-altered. I didn't have a good experience and she isn't willing to fix that. Ling altered my dress for my wedding banquet celebration and it fit like a glove! It was originally a corset type of back. Wasn't a fan. She was able to take the dress in and put in a zipper :) and it looked amazing! She also hemmed my dress.
