this place is more like a 4.5 out of 5 stars. its so strange, coming from DFW i would assume that places here would easily sell the cake mochi (box cake).... but its hard to find here. Surprisingly this place carries it, and they also carry daifuku. i didn't have high expectations, but this place blew it out of the park. I've had box cake before, but I don't think i've had box cake before with mochi built in.... Wow, just writing this review makes me want to drive back up to OKC to buy more. We also got the mango daifuku and it was so damn delicious. the mochi works wells with the cream and fruit inside. They also sell Mille crepes, and while we didn't get it, i'm 100% certain its good. Ling's is such an underrated bakery in OKC. I recently visited and tried their Japanese cheesecake which was soft and fluffy like biting into a cloud. Are you looking for daifuku?? They are fruit wrapped in mochi. They are INCREDIBLE and hard to find. Well - they have them here and its so good! I walked in and was welcomed, and I already knew what I wanted: strawberry daifuku and Japanese cheesecake. The mochi was so good! It was only a quick drive away, and we were inside in no time. Not knowing what to expect, we were warmly greeted by Jack, who walked us through their specialty desserts. He mentioned that his wife, Ling, is the baker--and wow, does her talent speak for itself. I ordered the Dubai Pistachio Chocolate Mille Crepe, and my wife went with the Chocolate Mille Crepe. Both were absolutely phenomenal. Yes, the prices were a bit higher than I anticipated, but the quality, craftsmanship, and flavor easily justified every penny. Came here looking for some egg tarts to bring to a small gathering--and they were a hit! I used to eat these as a kid, so it was really nostalgic to enjoy them again. I wanted to try the Dubai chocolate, but the cashier told me they aren't currently making that flavor right now, bummer. Excellent Japanese style bakery with variety of pastries and cakes. The quality is exceptional. You will find egg tarts, roll cakes, strawberry mochi and more. Friendly staff and clean interior. It's family owned and operated, very friendly people. It is the cakery place that Asian District needs as there's no other place that can serve the quality Ling's Cakery provides. Throughout the years, many awesome businesses have came and gone in Asian District (Bambu's, Bánh cuốn Như Lan, Northern Noodle House), businesses that give so much diversity to the city. I would hate to see Ling's Cakery follow the same foot step because I adore this little shop too much. The specialty at Ling's Cakery is the Mille crepe cake. Mille crepe cake is a unique crepe dessert made up of 20 layers of thin crepes, each separated by a thin layer of pastry cream. Because of this, the cake is the most moist piece of cake you will ever eaten. No one does it better than Ling's Cakery. Every thing sold of Ling's Cakery is of the highest quality from the ingredients to the décor. It may be a little pricy but I can guarantee you it's worth every single penny. My all time favorite flavor is the durian Mille crepe cake, simply delicious. Ling's Cakery also has other notable items for sale including mochi and Japanese cheesecake. If durian is not for you, my next favorite flavor is mango which is just as good. The Japanese cheesecake is not a crepe cake but is just as moist, resembling flan taste wise. Ling's Cakery does not have a lot of varieties but the limited selections that are available for sale are of the highest quality and satisfaction guaranteed. This place was unique, let me just say that first. The moon cakes were home made, in fact the chef himself said that everything was home made in the back by him and himself. Being Half Chinese Malaysian, I truly enjoy my moon cakes as well as pineapple tarts. I got the mung bean and pineapple moon cakes, and let me just say that the mung bean one was amazingly delicious. However the pineapple one was not something I liked nor would I get again. The pineapple jam was very murky and had a weird taste to it. The mini pineapple tart however was really good! I've tried to buy something from Ling's Cakery twice now, and I'm done trying after yesterday. The first time, they were closed earlier than their hours stated. The second time, I showed up even earlier in the afternoon, and they practically had nothing left except for a few largely average/unappetizing items (see picture of a whole lot of nothing). This kind of artificial scarcity for the sake of making something seem popular, is frankly, obnoxious. If you can't be bothered to have enough items by now (they've been open long enough to know that certain items run out faster) then change your operating hours to where you're closed by 12 pm or something. This way all your fans can preen endlessly about arriving early and getting to try everything, while the average customer can set their expectations accordingly and not even try to visit. Or maybe find a way to let your customers know before they drive 30 minutes from the suburbs that you have: (a) decided to close early, or (b) have nothing meaningful available. Criminy. Also, seeing as the only things I did notice in a largely empty case were the prices, those prices are bordering on egregious. Going to Ling's Cakery is playing a game of Russian roulette. Depending on your personality and expectations it could be a lot of fun or a set up for disappointment. If you really want to try some thing, I would suggest you either order ahead or call ahead. Be mindful that the hours posted it's just a general recommendation. In all my experiences, they have never been open consistently at their posted times. And they can do that because they are small business. Ling's Cakery is tucked at the corner and if you were not looking for it without a GPS, you might miss it. Parking can be tricky, as there are only a few spots in front of the store, but there is a small parking lot on the side. The decor is minimalistic, and it is pretty cute and well lit. They have about one or two tables set up for dining. They only sell bottle water for drinks. Despite what you see posted on pictures on Facebook or Yelp, what you find in the store will also be a game of Russian roulette. Sometimes you'll be lucky, and get to try all the things you want. Other times you will be stuck making decision whether you should buy something really expensive just because you went there, or leave empty-handed knowing that you wasted gas driving there. The desserts tend to be more Asian oriented, as in there is a lot less sugar in your typical baked items. Most are based on angel food cake like textures with fresh whipped cream and fresh fruits. Her crêpe cakes resemble the ones sold in major cities like Lady M. The goal is to get multiple thin layers with lots of flavor packed together. It is supposed to be fluffy, with a slight chew, with delicate cream. Now I might be more picky because this is something I used to eat all the time. Hers were a one and done for me, after I have tried all the flavors. I think the best items are the egg tarts and mochi. The egg tarts are a flaky crust, and the filling is delicious as you can really tasty egg. Her fresh mochi is also good, as it is filled with fresh fruits and fresh whipped cream. Overall, Ling's Cakery does a fair job of making diverse desserts that unique in Oklahoma City. However, if you compare it to Asian bakeries in Dallas, New York, or Los Angeles, it does not stand a chance. Everything is a very expensive for the portion you get. This place is very popular, lots of people coming in and out. I tried the chocolate crepe cake, it had a decadent flavor and was very rich. Not overly sweet, just enough! The texture is kind of hard to get past for myself, the crème is very soft but the crepes are an odd texture. If you had grown up eating this I can see where it would be amazing. Japanese cheesecake is light and fluffy compared to traditional cheesecakes that are dense and decadent. Mango mochi was handmade, soft, chewy, and melt in your mouth! I'm not sure if they didn't feel like baking that day or somehow everything was sold out super early but they only had the option of 4 things plus the three kinds of moon cakes. Extremely disappointing variety since Yelp showed way more desserts that they actually had Ive also never been to a bakery this expensive before. I should have kept driving and not given into my cravings! I can never undo what has been done..... Today I stopped by Ling's Cakery. This is my 2nd time since they opened their storefront location in 2020. The 1st time there were only like 3 items and I saw nothing worth stopping for. I knew they had just opened so I didn't mind going next door to Share Tea instead for a Boba drink. I was craving cakes and cupcakes so badly today, and since I was already driving nearby ,I took the plunge and came inside. Honestly,not much has changed. I stopped at 5:15pm. They close at 6pm. I was the only customer. There are boxes by the counter. Maybe I was a new shipment or maybe they are still decorating? I don't know. I didn't see many items in the shelf. There were 8 different items and some montages on the counter. They did have a cute display of cakes though on top. I saw the passionfrui mango mille crepe and decided to give it a try since I love both fruits so much. Oh my God! This is now a problem for me. The price was $10 for this slice. I cannot believe I paid that for a slice....but let me tell you, this is no ordinary slice. This was the BEST cake I have had in years. It was AMAZING. This cake has like 20 thin layers. It is soft like cutting into a mousse cake or a flan but with a thick custard like consistency. It is divine. I was driving and at a stop light I opened it to take a picture. Then I took a sample bite. It was like having all my senses activated at once. My eyes probably grew 10 sizes bigger when my brain finally registered what was happening. The flavor was so good. It was not overly sweet but just the right amount of perfect balance of passion fruit and mango layer. Now my issue will be staying away from this place because as much as I love it and want to try everything on the menu, $10 for a dessert is just steep So,I am perusing through their Facebook page and Instagram and holy cow, I see they make birthday the Japanese cheesecake that I have been seeing on Tik Tok and IG. It is the jiggly one that looks super fluffy. Yup,that one. I MUST HAVE THIS!!! All of their desserts look so good. If only they actually had more in the actual restaurant . I like their sweets but wish they would stock more. The store is really cute and next to a bubble tea shop so you can get your sweet fix in the area for sure. My favorites are the matcha crepe cake and durian mochi. Each item is more expensive than your average bakery but they're very high quality. The matcha crepe cake is so well made! Each layer of crepe is super soft and layered with a beautiful, light cream. I think it could sway some matcha haters to actually enjoy matcha. The durian mochi is super soft! And perfectly shaped. It's filled with cream and chunks of durian. I also had the pork floss roll and pork floss mochi. They're both savory and sweet. I found the pork floss roll to be too soft. It made the super savory floss combination kind of hard for me to eat, texture wise. But it tasted nice. I've also had the egg tarts and found them to have a very strong buttery flavor that I didn't love. And I wish I could buy one to try instead of a whole box, only to have to throw them away after being unable to eat all of them. The staff are nice and helpful. And they seem to bake gorgeous cakes. I assume they taste as nice as they look based on the other items I've had. However, their display case hardly ever has everything since they just opened and don't seem to have enough staff to bake everything. I've been meaning to go this place for quite some time and after finally going, I was a little disappointed. The delicious treats were amazing, but man is it expensive. I wish I had taken a picture of the menu, but going off memory, the egg tarts were about $2.50 each, mochi was 3 for $11, and the crepe was about $10. Though it's hard to find authentic treats like this in OKC, it's also hard to justify spending so much money for bite sized snacks. I see myself coming back every once in awhile to satisfy those cravings, but not more than that. All that being said, everything was incredibly tasty and so cute looking with the egg tarts and mochi being so small and bite sized as mentioned above. The egg tarts had such an awesome, flaky crust and a subtly sweet egg filling. The mochi, which is not for everybody, was pretty much as I imagined. Sticky, bouncy (almost doughy) consistency with mangos and cream inside. I think I preferred the strawberry filling, but both were fairly simple which is why me, my wife, and friend were surprised by the price.
