I also noticed that bad reviews are commented by management that they "couldn't find a record of the person staying at hotel". How is that possible when most reviewers usually don't use their full name? In any event, I just mentioned that because it made the business seem shady and dishonest. My bad is I checked the reviews after checking in. Read the reviews and don't rely on the star ratings. Hotel is definitely a dive. It's so difficult finding decent hotels that accept pets. When I walked in I was greeted by flies in the room. I have no idea how they got into the room. The room also had a funky smell. The bed linen was cheep and rough. I didn't see signs of bedbugs or roaches. The bathroom towels and washcloths were stained and dingy as well as the bathtub! Tried to use the hair dryer and it didn't work. I wasn't disturbed by noise as other reviewers reported, but there were some people hanging out on the balcony and walking around the lot. The TV, water and lights worked. Wouldn't stay here again or recommend this hotel. If you want cheap and somewhere to lay your head down for a few hours to get off the freeway, you can chance it at 70/night with $20 pet fee. Not much more to say about this less than mediocre experience.

The attendant said he will speak with manager in the morning. I had checked out that night and found another place to rest. I had sent pictures to the manager and have not heard since about my refund. Well beware and do not stay at this place.

I was at a calling for my cousin and decided that I was close enough to Illinois to drive to Vandalia in the morning to photograph another Madonna of the Trail, as I did recently in Springfield, OH. After all, why drive 150+ miles across the state, do what needs to be done to show respect, and drive home when you could take advantage of the location? So, I found this Super 8 location not far into Illinois from Indiana. It seemed reasonable and the desk clerk was friendly. I didn't have any discounts so it was just over $61.00. I suppose that's not bad but it's not really cheap, either. The room has a good sized (comfortable) bed, a table with two chairs, a recliner, a TV, and a fridge. They also included a coffee maker and a hair dryer--plus they have the continental breakfast from 6-9 a.m. She didn't mention if it was flown here daily from The Continent or not. Being that this is a 5 star hotel--oh, wait! I love having a clean room. That is a wonderful thing. A good lock on the door is helpful, too. I should tell you about the Super 8 outside Atlanta, GA...or maybe, you won't want to know. This place in Marshall seems great in comparison with most locations. I think that they need to finish some maintenance work but oh well, I need to work on my own house.

It's a historic building so I get it, and they have tried to provide some accessibility with a lift on the outside of the building, but if accessibility is a key concern you may want to stay elsewhere.

Our room was exceptional and very quiet as the main road out front is not exactly a major travel route. Whenever I am in the area this will alway be my "go-to" place.

Naturally we looked for the closest Best Western so our furry friend could come in with us. We got our room, both took showers with the complimentary soap and shampoo that smelled great. The tissues were folded to look like a flower, which was neat... Complaint #1 - the tv in the room was either poorly wired or had bad reception. We turned on a movie to fall asleep to, and it kept cutting out the volume and picture... flashing and screaming static. So we turned it off. Complaint #2 - which is out of control of the hotel, but the guy above us must have been exercising all night with his dog. Well into 5am... rough. Breakfast was good, the usual... waffles, pastries, eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon... Check out was easy as well. If we are in the area, we would go back...

A couple hours after I had checked out, and asked to be called if it was found, I went back and luckily got the manager David who knew of my dilemma. So he took me to the room for a 3rd or 4th pass. Then we went to my rental car where he engaged just as committedly. He politely asked if I was ok w/ his help, and then used his cell phone lite to look where I had already looked, felt, and told him the retainer was not. But he could see it under the seat and stuck into a gap in the floor paneling. Pretty incredible. Very incredible. Forever grateful. Above and beyond the call.
