Note: Review is for the park only, not the campground…read more This east side park is lush and green with several shelters, playgrounds, and Burns Lake. The lake has numerous fishing docks. An Amphitheater with stone seating faces the lake and has a small "stage" area at the base. The rest of the park has a paved path on the east side and other trails that wander around the lake. One of the key points of interest along the path is the Kenneth E Smith Memorial Labyrinth which is a recreation of the one "in the floor of the Chartres Cathedral in France in 1220." There are 34 changes of direction before you reach the center. If you stay on path, it totals 0.58 miles if completed. Of course, since it is simply inlaid without barriers, you can walk off anytime you choose. Most of the areas I walked were clean, but some natural debris, like fallen limbs, was around. A large tree had fallen into Burns Lake near one of the fishing docks. Shelters seemed clean and came with numerous picnic tables and some grills. The price is too HIGH for what you get however. The Beds in my room were broken down on one side where people sit to use the phone etc. The room was reasonably clean, but poorly fitted out. One odd chair in the corner. No desk or surface to write or work on. NO coffee maker - but they did have a microwave and little fridge. The Breakfast was ....odd. No one was around, the breakfast set up was strange: empty and sparse. Dont show up hungry. Additionally there was no coffee. I should add I went to breakfast at 7 am - dead center of the breakfast hour. There are plenty of services around the hotel that travelers need - gas, food etc... This is the best choice in the area - but the off-season price (mid September) was $100. I could have stayed at a Hampton for that rate. I will say this its far better to stay here than in Terra Huate

Activities are great for the weekend. They have built a really nice inflatable obstacle course that the kids love. Beach is soft and clean. Snacks and food on site. Prices from camping to activities to food are definitely priced to allow you to enjoy everything over the weekend. Food trucks have always been relative and great prices. Super accommodating to the campers. The entire campground is very welcoming, even the long term people go out of their way to be friendly. I have not had one complaint at any stay. We even had a bad storm this weekend that destroyed our canopies and the staff helped clean all that up. Definitely worth returning to year after year. Thank you guys for another great weekend!

Just a short drive up Route 1 from I-70 it is well worth the drive. I say here because of nearby family so Paris is kind of like home. I stay in Hampton Inns all over the Southeast and this on is by far my favorite. The staff both times were extremely friendly and helpful and breakfast was very good. Our room was exceptional and very quiet as the main road out front is not exactly a major travel route. Whenever I am in the area this will alway be my "go-to" place.

We checked in for our stay in the Hotel, staff were friendly and told us about amenities. There were 4 elevators located off of the lobby, good signage to help you find the convention center, pool or casino. The hallway on the 8th floor was beautiful and wide. I enjoyed the pictures of important areas around Terra Haute, IN and learning about the history. The casino was brightly lit and featured all the latest video machines. We don't play the table games but there were lots of people playing. Everything was very clean (bathrooms too) and there were lots of staff & security around. We stopped at the bar in the center for a drink. Kaitlyn was super friendly and made me a fantastic pink Cosmo! Hubby lost all of his allotted money LOL but I won about $100 so I was happy (he usually wins and I lose so...lol). Our room was also beautiful and spacious. The bed was very comfortable and I slept great. They use flat sheets on the bed (instead of fitted as is common in hotels) and my sheet was too short and had come undone by morning. The thermostat for the heating/AC was easy to find and use but the cooling unit was extremely loud every time it came on. We had to turn the TV volume up because it was that loud. The bathroom was big and had excellent lighting for shaving and makeup. I appreciated the makeup mirror on the wall. The shower was great but no bars to hang onto (just in case) and no handheld shower head. We would definitely stay here again when in the area!

Charleston itself is worth the trip -- Lincoln lore runs deep here, and Casey, Illinois is just down the road with its wonderfully bizarre collection of world's largest roadside attractions. We drove through this small town of Greenup at around 1am on our way back home. Tired and exhausted, we decided to get a room. We tried another motel first, the front desk was obviously uninterested in working at that hour. The room they gave us had a musky odor and AC didn't work and we got attitude when we called about it. We decide to leave and find another place. Just down the road we saw Greenup Inn. We obviously woke the manager up, but much to our surprise, he was extremely helpful, checked us in and directed us to our room. I have to say the exterior may not be much to look at but the rooms were really nice for a small town motel. However, what happens next made me a customer for life. Our 3 month old baby was colicky and my husband had to get some sleep so I stepped outside the room at 2am to calm the baby down and not disturb my husband. The manager heard the baby crying, noticed I was outside; he immediately opened the office, invited me in and offered the place to me as long as I needed even made me some tea from his own kitchen. He stayed up with me for the next 2 hours until my baby fell asleep. Is this small town hospitality or just good people that go over and beyond?? Whatever is it, I'll be staying at Greenup Inn every time I make this trip, which is 3x a year!
