The price is too HIGH for what you get however. The Beds in my room were broken down on one side where people sit to use the phone etc. The room was reasonably clean, but poorly fitted out. One odd chair in the corner. No desk or surface to write or work on. NO coffee maker - but they did have a microwave and little fridge. The Breakfast was ....odd. No one was around, the breakfast set up was strange: empty and sparse. Dont show up hungry. Additionally there was no coffee. I should add I went to breakfast at 7 am - dead center of the breakfast hour. There are plenty of services around the hotel that travelers need - gas, food etc... This is the best choice in the area - but the off-season price (mid September) was $100. I could have stayed at a Hampton for that rate. I will say this its far better to stay here than in Terra Huate

I was at a calling for my cousin and decided that I was close enough to Illinois to drive to Vandalia in the morning to photograph another Madonna of the Trail, as I did recently in Springfield, OH. After all, why drive 150+ miles across the state, do what needs to be done to show respect, and drive home when you could take advantage of the location? So, I found this Super 8 location not far into Illinois from Indiana. It seemed reasonable and the desk clerk was friendly. I didn't have any discounts so it was just over $61.00. I suppose that's not bad but it's not really cheap, either. The room has a good sized (comfortable) bed, a table with two chairs, a recliner, a TV, and a fridge. They also included a coffee maker and a hair dryer--plus they have the continental breakfast from 6-9 a.m. She didn't mention if it was flown here daily from The Continent or not. Being that this is a 5 star hotel--oh, wait! I love having a clean room. That is a wonderful thing. A good lock on the door is helpful, too. I should tell you about the Super 8 outside Atlanta, GA...or maybe, you won't want to know. This place in Marshall seems great in comparison with most locations. I think that they need to finish some maintenance work but oh well, I need to work on my own house.

This is not a Bed and Breakfast, no breakfast voucher either - so forget anything you read otherwise - I complained about the sign that was even in the window as you walked in stating Bed and Breakfast, which they did remove the next day. Speaking of walking in - I had to push the automatic door to the lobby open (they did fix that the next day) only to find a kiosk virtual front desk (from a different town/state who knows where, that had to call about everything that required attention). After we had drove a few hours, we did get a text to warn us that the elevator was broken (so check on that before you go, because it was still broke when we left). I had booked a room specific to 2nd floor, as my wife has some trouble with stairs after hip surgery (none on first floor, and 3rd floor only has stair access). After the steep climb with luggage (We heard some poor soul struggling to get luggage up the stairs and thought he was going to have a heart attack, but he made it before I was able to get out to help). We got settled in, but before the day was over... the TV quit working. Mr. kiosk suggested the typical things (reboot etc...) that I had already tried and had to show him a picture of the screen that showed it had no connection. He said they would have someone fix the next day after treating me like I did not know anything (I worked in IT over 40 years, I can tell when a Roku cannot connect to a network). Next day, after being out all day, came in to relax - no TV still, Mr. Kiosk said we could move to another room... OK we pack up and move to a new room, and it is super cold, go to Mr. Kiosk again because we could not find a thermostat, his solution ... we move to another room that has a thermostat we can adjust on the third floor - no - we are tired we don't want to lug up another flight of stairs, we will just get out another blanket. We did get a call at that point, and I was told the thermostat is currently in another room for the whole floor, but I can go and adjust (got there and it was set to 66), so we finally was able to settle in and watch TV for the night. (They are planning on making changes to have individual controlled, but something you might want to consider). The last day was better, but not sure we will be back even though we did like the room itself. Definitely, buyer beware - ask before booking.

Just a short drive up Route 1 from I-70 it is well worth the drive. I say here because of nearby family so Paris is kind of like home. I stay in Hampton Inns all over the Southeast and this on is by far my favorite. The staff both times were extremely friendly and helpful and breakfast was very good. Our room was exceptional and very quiet as the main road out front is not exactly a major travel route. Whenever I am in the area this will alway be my "go-to" place.

The tissues were folded to look like a flower, which was neat... Complaint #1 - the tv in the room was either poorly wired or had bad reception. We turned on a movie to fall asleep to, and it kept cutting out the volume and picture... flashing and screaming static. So we turned it off. Complaint #2 - which is out of control of the hotel, but the guy above us must have been exercising all night with his dog. Well into 5am... rough. Breakfast was good, the usual... waffles, pastries, eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon... Check out was easy as well. If we are in the area, we would go back...

The second room was better, but we were refused clean towels when requested. We used our room towels at the pool, and when we asked for clean, dry towels we were told they did not have any. Finally, we were given 2 (for 3 people) and a bath mat. Save your money. Unless you like the smell of mold, prefer unsanitary conditions, and enjoy wasting your money, DO NOT STAY HERE.

Blue Star Highways are a tribute to the Nations armed forces who served in World War II. There are nice flowers and it is attended to by the Garden Club of Illinois. Plenty of signs and in particular one says Illinois remembers POWs and MIAs. Very evident that, at least in concept, the sacrifices that servicemen and women make are important in the state of Illinois. However, in the past week our Nation has lost a number of lives as our military withdraws from Afghanistan. In fact it's been one of the largest single losses of service lives in many years. While this is a nicely manicured clean rest area, someone has neglected to lower the flag to half staff, a point which I brought up to a worker, extremely politely and respectfully, here at this rest area. It is this reason, this in attention to an extraordinarily important and significant detail, that I extend a one star rating to this otherwise very nice rest area. These people have said that they renovated their hotel rooms, and I paid more to be in an upgraded (Executive room)! 1. The first room that they put me in did not have a smoke detector at all! 2. One chair was dirty, and the seat springs were broken. 3. There was black mold around the vanity sink. 4. The lamp shades were torn. 5. The bathroom tub bottom was filthy dirty. 5. The shower curtain rod was falling off the wall! I did ask for a different room, and was moved to another which was barely in better shape! For breakfast, I was told by a staff member that the coffee pot was broken, and found that the scrambled eggs and biscuit gravy BOTH were cold, although the man warmed it up quickly. By that time, I had lost my appetite and opted to go to McDonald's instead! I spent over $125 per night for this fleabag joint! NEVER AGAIN. Their new restaurant ( INDIAN food) is overpriced for the area, and judging from the hotel's cleanliness, I refused to eat there! This was one of the only hotels left in the area (including in Effingham) that met our requirements and didn't break the bank. Hot breakfast was good. I didn't use the pool and hot tub, but we saw many guests enjoying it throughout our 2-night stay. Susie was particularly helpful and accommodating. A couple hours after I had checked out, and asked to be called if it was found, I went back and luckily got the manager David who knew of my dilemma. So he took me to the room for a 3rd or 4th pass. Then we went to my rental car where he engaged just as committedly. He politely asked if I was ok w/ his help, and then used his cell phone lite to look where I had already looked, felt, and told him the retainer was not. But he could see it under the seat and stuck into a gap in the floor paneling. Pretty incredible. Very incredible. Forever grateful. Above and beyond the call.
