I've been here twice and on my last visit the lady said it was their first time making pad thai and…read morepineapple fried rice. It's cool being the first to try something. I've never had that happen at a restaurant before. I got spring roll, boneless ribs, sweet and sour chicken, shrimp pad thai, and pineapple fried rice. The spring roll wasn't good. It was super doughy with barely any filling and tasted weird. The boneless ribs were ok. They had a decent flavor but weren't charred at all. First time having none charred boneless ribs. Next was the sweet and sour chicken. This had a good tasting sauce but the chicken batter was soggy. Sweet and sour chicken for takeout should have the sauce on the side so this doesn't happen. The shrimp pad thai wasn't bad. The shrimp and noodles were cooked nicely but the sauce had a really weird overly sweetness. Last dish was pineapple fried rice with extra cashews. It was good, had a good flavor but had very little pineapple and definitely didn't have extra cashews. They gave little sides of duck sauce but I didn't like it. It tasted like fruit syrup with a splash of vinegar. Overall this place isn't bad. Some dishes are hit or miss. I'd get the pineapple fried rice again. If the pad thai wasn't so sweet I'd get that again for sure.

If I could give a minus zero, I would…read more I have ordered from them a few times per year and it's never fantastic, but just okay. I ordered the 1C. Pork fried rice with no pork in it!! Boneless spare ribs that looked like they were someone else's leftovers and simply terrible. The chicken fingers looked days old, there were only three of them and they were soggy! How can they be days old and overcooked and soggy? The egg roll now comes in a paper wrapping and was not hot and overcooked. The worst part of this review is that I told them my address and the driver still went to my neighbors and had to go back to bring it to the right house. I called the restaurant to tell them how bad the food was and I cannot eat this and the nice young lady said, "I am sorry, that's how we cook it!" I said, "you didn't just tell me that I paid $20 for food that I can't eat and that's the way it's cooked, but you're sorry!" Add insult to injury, she replied, "sorry, it's under new ownership!" I told her you cannot tell a customer they basically have to pay for food that is bad because "it's the way you cook it and it's under new ownership!" Apparently when I requested to speak to a manager, someone is supposed to call me tomorrow! They should not be serving food like this.

A few more visits, a few more items. Same score…read more -- Chicken Wings: Once coming in near-perfect in size, crispness, tenderness, juiciness, and strength of the five spice marinade. This is a must order every visit. Elite and arguably the best in the region. -- Beef Teriyaki: Merely good on the first visit, but superb on the next. Great combination of light char, good tenderness, and gingery taste. Near-elite to elite. -- Spareribs on the Bone: Recently added, this had sweet, bright red sauce, the all-important char, but the browned cross sections (and slightly cold bites on some) revealed a reheat. A little on the tough side. Flavor, yay; texture, nay. Average. -- Beef Fried Rice: Not old school at all, but very good as simply rice. Fresh, light of color and texture, but pleasing silky. Plenty of tender beef, supported by egg, onion, and bean sprouts. This could be a meal on its own. Well above average and more impressive than the photo suggests. -- General Gao's Chicken: A beautiful presentation, with the chicken nestled in a circular broccoli arrangement and flower on the side. Light batter and good chicken-to-batter ratio, though the flower on the plate had a pretty high ratio too. High quality chicken and nicely tender. Fairly tame sauce treatment, with minimal spice. Above average. -- Hong Kong Shrimp: Huge shrimp, plenty of them, and nice presentation with the string beans fanned out beneath them. A little on the sweet side and not much flavor. Not bad, but probably wouldn't get this again. -- Beef Chow Fun: A hearty dish of thick rice noodles, with onions and well-cooked beef that had both crust and tenderness. The noodles themselves were very soft-- closer to mushy than chewy. Not a bad thing; it all depends on what you like. With a couple items elite (chicken wings and beef teriyaki) and most items solid, Kawaii is worth a visit. There's a superfan and self-appointed Chinese food expert out there whose promotional "reviews" suggest everything is perfect every time, which isn't the case, but Kawaii comes through more often than not, so it earns my recommendation. Much too good to be a 3 and too many flaws to be a 5, so a 4-star rating is exactly right for them.
