Today was my first visit to Dr Lin for back pain. I was received with warmth by effient assistants upon check in. The nurses and anaesthesiologist were skilled , kind, and confident in their tasks which put me at ease. The Dr had " old school" bedside manner" combined with precision talent. I am a new patient here, after having a large tear on my shoulder. I was extremely unhappy with ucla and their staff- I was told my only choice is surgery and no alternatives.Dr. Lin was very patient, professional and was completely for a non surgical approach that involves personal training, physical therapy, as well as non surgical procedures that his office can help assist in. I felt so much better after meeting a doctor that not only gave alternatives, but even noted that the initial impression by ucla to push me solely for a surgical outcome without allowing any alternatives to be done first. This is a great doctor and I couldn't be happier to have found him. It is extraordinarily dangerous to have a pain specialist who is never present for your appointments. There is no one to address new and issues or the further deterioration of a degenerative condition. No one who has the ability or equipment required to read your MRI scans which will be required regularly. And when asked what my core condition was after 5-6 years as a patient, the PA left the room in humiliation. Your requests for assistance during an emergent crisis will be ignored. You will be left to suffer trauma after trauma. If you require medication, it will not be at the pharmacy 3 out of 4 times, again left to suffer with no consequence to the practice. . And you may be required to participate unwillingly in dangerous drug trials, even repeat them 2-3 times with no explanation other than the threat of non-participation means you will no longer receive your safe, proven medication regimen again. It is a strange, angry trick and there won't be anyone there to care when you're officially dying from withdrawal and dehydration, your pain so loud you can no longer breathe, eat, sleep, sit or stand, focus, smile, cry, or perform any basic human task. But YOU will be punished should ever a mistake be made on your part. Your condition is irrelevant and altogether plausible that no one will remember nor care what it is that ails you. You will not be admitted to a hospital in a dire emergency. Your insurance will be charged in the vicinity of 1600% of the legal fees for outpatient steroid injections and you will be encouraged to do more. Read your statements and report fraud to the law firm handling these cases at over $80 million annually sucked out of tax payers including yourself. Moreover, save your own life and run, not walk in another direction. This practice will cease to exist within 2 years max. Read the book due out September, 2024 entitled "Pain Dismissed." It will provide you with every piece of the current pain management puzzle so as to avoid tragic situations for yourself, family members and friends who suffer from chronic or post surgical pain. You ARE worthy and while this practice will gladly take your money or that of your insurance company or both, that self-worth can easily be destroyed there. That, all by itself, is not just disheartening but potentially lethal. read more

Dr Lin was a huge disappointment. I was one of his first patients about 15 years ago, when he first moved to Thousand Oaks. He was very kind and such a caring listerner. I was so grateful to have him as my Dr. When he moved to his new office on St Charles, he changed greatly. I found out from many of his other patients that if you wanted your medication, you needed to exchange with frequent epidurals and nerve blocks, even though they never helped. When I discontinued seeing him, I still heard nothing but negativity about him from friends. I now have a non-functional pain pump that few Drs now work with that needs to be removed. I called for help at Dr Lin and was told he now refuses to take me as a patient. It's interesting when such once kind and concerned Drs drastically change so negatively with a cold God complex. Sad and concerning. I am now on my own... and only have to say, beware and take heed. Dr Lin no longer cares... :( read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Lin and his staff for approximately 2 years. I transferred my care to Dr. Lin due to my previous pain management doctor discontinuing writing any pain medications and only doing procedures. i have chronic migraines and lower back arthritis and disk bulging. When I first met Dr. Lin, he was very attentive and looked up my MRI results of my brain and lower back. He thoroughly questioned me on my history and previous treatments. He offered me medications for my migraines and offered me a range of procedures that would help me with the pain in my lower back. I decided to go with steroid epidural injections. He uses a surgical center near his office that was well equipped and professionally run. These treatments have worked very well for me without having to take any opiates. Dr. Lin also has a Physicians assistant in the office that I also see and she is very thorough and compassionate in her patient care. Their office staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They have been able to fit me in on a cancellation proceedure spot to ensure more timely treatment for me on two occasions. I most highly recommend Dr. James Lin and his staff for pain management. read more

He developed an initial treatment plan that felt very responsive to my 15 year history with chronic pain. I cannot say a bad word about Dr. Lin because I never saw him. However, as nice as his receptionist Crystal is, she failed to return a call that would have saved me a couple of wasted hours and my girlfriend unpaid time off work, as she was needed for a ride home after my scheduled epidural. But the epidural never took place because: 1) instead of Crystal calling to confirm the insurance co-payment ahead of time, I showed up and after filling out a half hour's paperwork, I was told that there would be a $500 Facility charge (never had that experience before) and that Dr. Lin was out of network, therefore I was responsible for 50% of the charge. No. My PPO is a good policy and I never pay more than a $55 co-pay. 2) I walked out so I never saw the doctor. Now, I understand that my Orthopedic's office, Dr. O'Hallaren from Ventura Orthopedics is equally at blame for not making my epidural appointment with an in-network pain specialist and believe me, they too will get a poor rating after an earful from me! read more

At the time I needed care the most, or even just a simple returned phone call, I was, literally, "kicked to the can", and not even once was given one returned phone call even though I had a bad stomach reaction to the opioids that I had been on for over one year. I have been a patient of Dr Lin for over 2 years. I had the unfortunate result from a urine that tested positive for another drug that I dont take. I had no explanation for the drug aside from possibly sharing a pipe that I thought was only used for marijuana with my adult son. All I could surmise was that it was used for that drug prior to my use. Dr Lin made a decision to start me on Suboxone. I have had chronic pain since 2008 and have been on pain meds for that many years. I did not argue BUT my issue is that he did NOT discuss with me what I am going to be going through and has actually refused to speak with me and wants me to return next week so I can pay another $100.00. I have no idea what's in store for me. Makes me wonder about his integrity as a physician. Isn't it his responsibility to explain to me the side affects of the medication that he is writing for me? Therefore I am not only going to post this here, I am going to get in touch with the governing entity over doctors to find out about safe practices and doctors responsibilities to their patients. I had 2 epidural injections from Dr. Lin. I was given no after care instructions I ended up going to another dr. who was terrific!! I was told a price for the procedure and paid in full. But have been continually hounded by first Dr. Lin's office for more money..which I paid. and now by another dr. I feel that they were not factual in informing me of the true cost of the procedure. And I have now paid over double from the 2nd Dr. I saw... Also wanted to mention that both times I was in his office, the police were there dealing with patients or former patients...????? read more

I am not one who usually writes reviews but I had to after reading the reviews below. I heard about Dr.Lin from a friend on the golf course. I was suffering from low back pain and was only golfing once a week due to my increased pain. I called his office and was able to see him the next week. His staff is very welcoming and efficient, I waited no longer than 10 minuets before actually seeing Dr.Lin. He then evaluated me and had already reviewed my MRI before coming into the exam room which I was very content with, we discussed my issues and he recommended an epidural injection since I am not one to take medications. I was able to get in for the injection the same week and since then have been pain free. read more

For many many years I have been fighting several diagnosed issues. I can only tell you this.......I cannot rave enough about Dr. Lin and his staff. I went to several doctors before a friend saw my frustration in a FB post and recommended Dr. Lin at Comprehensive Pain Management. He is the best. I am surprised at the negative reviews. I have been going for 2 years now about every 3 months. He has helped me so much. I never have more than a 10-15 min wait and everyone is so nice. His PA's are amazing too. Been going for many years, and this office has taken such an interest in my care and well being . Beth the PA is very thorough and really listens to you! This office is so comfortable. beautiful, welcoming, tv, internet, all there. The staff are all very friendly, accommodating, quick, and knowledgeable. I was able to get an appointment within the day! There was hardly a wait in the office. They were very informative in regards to what my insurance would cover, which never happens at most medical facilities. The staff was amazing! And lets just talk about Dr. Lin. This offices main focus is on not pain as much as "pain-ment". All they were concerned with was seeing me every three weeks. The office staff couldn't even take my blood pressure. Nor get my meds correct. His assistant arrived into the examining room to advise me that she had me down as taking the wrong medications, the wrong regular medications. When I went to correct her, she was flustered and went to get the Dr. He arrived into the room asking me why I felt it necessary to be rude to his staff. My husband and I just looked at each other in amazement and stated to him that she was asking me to verify the wrong meds. I was concerned since he was prescribing sin meds for me that what he had me on was ok to take with the correct meds I was on? He stated that he was no longer going to treat me to find a new Dr. which made me wonder if he was in the wrong. read more

In addition to my horrible experience with Jim Lin, he attempted to bill me after I fired him for an office visit that never transpired. It is really disheartening to see what I considered a credible doctor transition into a poor medical practitioner. In my experience, he has misread MRI reports and substantial injuries. Very unprofessional the past year and a half towards me. Though he apologized once, his unbecoming conduct continued which led me to finding someone else. I met Dr Lin in the emergency room about 9 years or more ago, after the doctor I was seeing, from the SF Valley, failed to answer ANY of my pages on Thanksgiving, because the medicine he'd given me had overdosed me!!, and Dr. Lin was the doctor on duty at Los Robles that day, and I am SO GLAD THE PIECE OF YOU KNOW WHAT From SFV DIDN'T answer my calls after all, because I got the best doctor in the world and have been with him ever since (I broke my back in 2004, and got completely jacked up in the resulting surgery, I've since been outfitted w/a internal pain pump, do I needed a doctor I can see monthly, that's reliable. Easy appointment scheduling, pleasant receptionist voices and understanding as I sometimes need to postpone due to my condition. Do not go to this quack. They take away your medicine with the promise to reinstate your meds back to the way they were before you went there. They took away one of my psych meds with the promise of letting me get back to the dosage I was on prior going to this so called Dr. Now I've been struggling with my disability so I asked if I could get my medication back to what it was prior to his taking them away. He is not a psychiatrist and had no right to take away a psychotic medication when he is supposed to be a pain management Dr. Now he says I have to find another psychiatrist because my Dr is retired and when they took my dosage away it was to be a guinea pig for his experiments. He doesn't know what he is doing because he hasn't been doing it for very long. They were the ones who took the medication away with the promise of returning my dosage back to what they were prior to going to this, not a Dr. My advise is stay far far away from this person. He is far from a Dr. He should still be in med school. Thus the one star rating. The 5 star rating are from people who went to the Thousand Oaks office where he is the me. Dr to all the other Dr.'s. That is when he is on his best behavior. The real reviews are the one star reviews from the Oxnard office. That is where he shows his true colors. Those five star rating should go to the St. Charles office where he is a nobody. Those are two totally different entities. Keep that in mind when you go to the Oxnard office. read more

I agree with the other patient who said Dr. Lin was a poor communicator and not very personable. I had a very similar bad experience in his office. It's nice that the office is tastefully decorated because you will wind up staring at those walls for a very long time before your appointment. After two months of the worst pain I could every imagine, I had three MRIs on my knee, my hip, and my back. During that time, I would have off and on days with most where I could hardly walk 100'. Dr. Lin met with my wife and me, took the time to thoroughly explain what he saw and how he could help. He scheduled an epidural for the next week. I arrived for the 11 AM appointment at the surgical center and was promptly "processed" for the procedure that included a sedative. The three nurses in the surgical center assigned to me couldn't have been more comforting in explaining to us what they were doing and what the process would entail. Dr. Lin talked with me before the procedure to again rest my fears over what was ahead. The entire procedure took less than 15 minutes. I was out of the sedative and feeling great after 30 minutes. No one can believe how my mobility has returned to normal. This is written over one week after my procedure. I have not had one bad day or night. I can walk without any pain. I would recommend Dr. Lin and his staff with the highest marks possible. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Lin now for my fibromyalgia for almost six years. I had a terrible experience with a former pain management doctor and his staff. I am surprised to find so many had difficulties here but my experience so far has been really good. Despite what others say I personally have found him to have a very good bedside manner and he takes the time to listen every time I am in and take my pain seriously. He has done well by me and I have never had an issue with payment. He is out of network so they work out an amount I can afford which is fine. His staff is always very attentive and friendly and his nurses are very good as well. I have never waited longer than 10 minutes for any of my scheduled appointments. The office has a very comfortable and clean zen atmosphere. He has also been very supportive of my efforts with natural healthcare like chiropractic and acupuncture which I did not find at the other pain management office I was at years ago. He believes what you tell him about your pain and wants to help and that alone is rare. read more
