Dr. Thomas is an amazing physician and I'd recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat! In 2014, I totally severed my ACL on right leg and needed ACL reconstructive surgery. When I met with Dr. Thomas, he was warm, friendly, and assured me that he would do an amazing job and he did just that! My results were excellent and I haven't had an issue with my right knee since. I recently visited Dr. Thomas for pain I was experiencing in my left knee and he gave me a thorough examination and prescribed an MRI. I have comfort in knowing that I am in the best hands possible, and whatever the MRI results are, I am confident that Dr. Walter will have me back on track in no time! He's very thorough and knows what he is doing! I trust him and his ability to repair any damages. He is also very conservative, in that he will not force you to put unnecessary pressure on your injury that may damage the work he's done to repair area surgery was performed on. Dr. Thomas is one of the most compassionate doctors that I know and he is excellent at explaining any and everything you could ask...one of the main reasons I will choose him always if I need an orthopedic surgeon. I want to share my experience to make others aware. I had a rotator cuff injury several months ago with severe pain where I couldn't move my arm at all for weeks, and I couldn't write for months. My arm was almost fully healed, but then I injured it again and went to see Dr. Walter Thomas. Before the doctor even saw me, the assistant told me the insurance company needed X-rays. I told her I wasn't sure I needed them so she sent Dr. Walter Thomas in to see me. I told him I wanted to avoid unnecessary radiation with X-rays and asked him if it made sense for me to get them since this was a tendon issue and not a bone issue and asked if an MRI might be better. He said he'd like to do a thorough exam and X-rays would help with that, so I got the X-rays. He then looked at the X-rays and said everything looks fine and then recommended PT. But if the X-rays didn't show anything, and I had been having shoulder issues for so long wouldn't an MRI be appropriate to see what was going on before I started PT just to make sure? I was still having pain and hearing popping/clicking noises after all, and he said he wanted to be thorough. I didn't want to do PT which could make matters much worse in case I had a partial tear or something that still needed to heal. So I asked him for an MRI and he REFUSED. I then got a second opinion with a different doctor and explained my shoulder issues. He said "I don't think you need an X-ray as it wouldn't tell us very much", and then he recommended getting an MRI to see what was going on since I had been having issues for so long. This made much more sense. Why would this surgeon push X-rays and then refuse an MRI that would have been needed to make a complete and accurate diagnosis? Also, I don't think the technician doing the X-rays on my shoulder made sure my head was out of the X-ray's way. My ear and side of my head have been burning for the last month, and my thyroid and health has been suffering from the unnecessary radiation. I would prefer to see a doctor who cares more about patient's needs rather than insurance company's needs. No wonder this office is empty, and you can get an appointment right away. read more

I saw to Dr. Thomas for the first time last week, and so happy that I did! Although he could not get to the bottom of what is going on, he was kind, patient and willing to spend as much time as necessary talking to me. I am not an easy patient as I am always so nervous on a first time visit but, he put me at ease. On his behalf, my "severe ache" is something new and even I could not tell where it is coming from; all of the X-rays came out as though I had no issues! He made some recommendations and gave me a prescription for physical therapy that I will soon follow up on! For me, patience and a good bed side manners is really important and he supplied all that! Wow, just had my first visit with Dr. Thomas. I feel quite fortunate. I've been dealing with a degenerative osteoarthritis condition in both shoulders for over 5 years. They took xrays and the consultation Dr. Thomas was thorough and patient. He presented ALL of the options as I had done lots of research before hand and new them. But he explained in a very clear way without pushing me toward surgery or other and taking into consideration my Medicare costs. When I was able to make an informed choice, he gave me his opinion of it, agreeing, and we started treatment right then and there. As a mother, it is very difficult and nerve wrecking to know that your child has to go through surgery. As soon as I met with Dr. Thomas, I knew that he would be the one we would be moving forward with for my sons ACL Repair. I completely trusted him and felt comfortable. He answered all of my questions without me having to ask. He is super nice and has an amazing bed side manner. When surgery was completed he immediately called me to let me know how the surgery went and then met me in the lobby to go over pictures. We are so deeply grateful to Dr. Thomas and his staff for giving our 16 year old daughter her life back. Dr. Walter Thomas, he is an amazing doctor. He explained my husbands MRI report, examined and treated him with care and compassion. He helped my husband with the proper diagnosis of his knee issue. Drained and injected with cortisone. Now my husband is not in crutches (ordered by another ortho surgeon who misdiagnosed him). He is walking with very minimal on and off pain due to arthritis. Dr. Thomas surgically repaired my damaged knee (ACL replacement and meniscus repair). I completely tore ACL, partially tore MCL and had bucket tear in Meniscus playing basketball back in 2016. Seven (7) years later at age 57 my knee feels like it had never been injured. Beyond his skill as a surgeon, Dr. Thomas' office is nothing but professional always providing kind and thoughtful care in a calm and soothing atmosphere. Certainly a comfort when you need it most. I was referred to Dr. Thomas by a friend of mine who had surgery on her abductor muscle; I have seen him for a hip and most recently a shoulder issue. Both of my issues did not result in surgery although I feel had I seen someone else I could have ended up on the surgery table. My shoulder in fact has a partial torn rotator cuff and a 70% torn labrum and still he did not suggest surgery- went to a little PT, gave up surfing which is what I feel aggravated the issue and continued lifting weights and exercising. My shoulder came good as did my hip issue. Dr. Thomas is definitely accustomed to dealing with athletes and is highly skilled, I know of a number of people who have had successful surgery procedures from him. I feel he leans on the side of conservative therefore if he is recommending surgery then I can only assume that you definitely need it. Great bedside manner, listens to what you have to say and if I am in need of surgery where Dr Thomas's skills are best fit he will definitely be the one that do it- no hesitation. I damaged my right shoulder sometime in mid 2023. I was referred to Dr. Thomas and ever since the first visit he treated me like a human being and said he could help me. Rotator cuff surgery was in December 2023, and today I am healed, recovered and released from treatment. I am eternally grateful for Dr. Thomas and his entire staff! I wanted to put an update with more information for wary patients. I went to Dr. Thomas for an arm injury from a broken humerus and subsequent limited movement. I checked with my insurance that it was covered, which the office agreed as well. Dr. Thomas gave me a total of 30 second exam where he moved my arm up and down and then recommended an MRI which wasn't covered by my insurance and cost a lot. So, I refused any further treatment. For this "exam," his office charged me $400 for a treatment plan. And so began a tug of war with his office lasting years. My State of Oregon insurance went back and forth trying to get them to fill out the correct paperwork so they could reimburse me. I sent letters and called dozens of times. Finally, his office agreed to fill out the correct paperwork for which my insurance then reimbursed me, finally, after literally years. Throughout all of this his office staff refused to contact my insurance and showed total apathy to resolve the issue. Their position was it was my problem to get my insurance to reimburse me, not theirs. Ironically, in the end I just went to a local physician in Thousand Oaks (Conejo Valley Family Medical Group), who told me it was just sore muscles from the injury and to have patience and let it heal. Was recommended by Dr. Thomas by a man I saw with an athletic brace on his knee while eating lunch at a restaurant. Never had any prior knee problems. My knee had been in so much pain for about 3-4 years. It finally got to the point where I needed to see someone. Went to Dr. Thomas and he suggested that I get knee surgery but he gave me other options as well. Didn't force me to choose surgery, allowed me the time to think about things and let him know what I wanted to do. Best decision I could have ever made. I came out of the operation pain free. Have already recommended him to several of my friends. His staff at the office is First Class. They are always available if I have any questions or concerns. And they are very professional. Diagnosed my shoulder issue with a quick but thorough exam. And the. He spent another 30 ish minutes explaining the diagnosis and my options. It was a first time issue and he really helped me figure out what I wanted to do. He said that this was not at all a surgical issue. We decided together that I would see how I healed over the next 2 weeks. If I was still in pain or was uncomfortable before then I could come back for a steroid shot. He'd explained that with cortisone (a steroid) 50% of people feel relief but 50% don't within a few days. Then another percentage feel better within a few weeks. So.... Final word.... I waited the 2 weeks, and my shoulder was fine and I'm weight lifting and back to my yoga again! Love this docs bedside manner, diagnostic skill, and office staff! I told him I need and general doc who's as wonderful as him-- he smiled and said..."my office will help you with that". I came to understand his smile when the office referred me to Lucille Thomas, his sister! And Thank you to both Dr. Thomases!!! I went to Dr Thomas with a hip labrum tear which I probably had for many years without realizing it. Dr. Thomas was very reasonable and provided a good, neutral risk benefit analysis of surgery vs continued physical therapy without pressing me for surgery. In the end I chose to have surgery 2 weeks after my initial consult with him. 7 months post surgery and I could not be happier. I had not realized the amount of pain I was in until after the surgery. The pre and post surgery treatment has been wonderful and I am absolutely happy with my treatment and recovery. I feel almost back to 100% and recommend him and his office. Dr. Thomas was hasty (not thorough) when examining my medical issue for 2 minutes and sent me off with no resolution. He looked at an X-ray for a second and said he didn't see anything. He did acknowledge that there was inflammation in the area. So, I paid for nothing, wasted my time, and now I have to locate someone else who is willing to actually work and determine what is causing the issue. I will never return to this office again. Update: After seeing another physician (on the East Coast), I confirmed that this physician failed to exercise reasonable care because he did not order a blood test and Ultrasound.
