I had purchased a used car for my teenage son and it only came with 1 aftermarket key fob. It…read morewasn't until over a week later I realized that the physical key was not cut in the key fob. I had purchased 2 aftermarket key fobs from Amazon, but was not able to program them without having a physical key (needed to program the key fobs). The Chevrolet Dealers in Vacaville and Fairfield refused to cut the key from the VIN number because they were aftermarket keys. They would only cut the key if it was an authentic GM key. I reached out to 3 local locksmiths to see if any would be able to cut the key by VIN number. Out of the 3, one company did not respond, another said they didn't do that and only ACE Lock & Key responded promptly and was able to help me. The mobile service call was a flat rate of $125 to cut a key and $45 per additional key. I made the appointment for the next day between 10-11am. Issa text me around 10am and told me he would be at my home at 10:30am and he was right on time. To cut the key by VIN number, he would need to purchase a code which I would need to pay for (can't remember the exact price, but I believe it was around $100). He suggested he use his tool that can feel out the cuts needed for the key which is part of the service, but if he couldn't get the cuts right, then I would need to purchase the code. To my surprise in about 15 minutes he was able to feel out the cuts needed with his tool in the door lock. He then proceeded to cut a test key. Low and behold the test key worked and it was able to unlock the door! He then cut 2 keys from the aftermarket key fobs I got from Amazon which both worked great. He even let me keep the test key so I can keep it as an emergency key. The whole process took less than 30 minutes. Issa was very professional and we had a nice chat while he worked his magic. He even noticed that I was somewhat interested in the way he was able to figure out the cuts for the key, so he showed me the tool he used and then roughly explained how it worked. On Saturday morning after walking my dog I tried to open the back door and the key got stuck in the…read morelock on the door handle. This was a problem since I could not use the key to open the deadbolt. I tried to lubricate the lock and jiggle the key to remove it but it would not budge. I contacted A Better Cheaper Locksmith and they responded to my request for assistance. The locksmith was able to get the key out and checked the locking mechanism. It was determined that the lock was bad and it needed to be replaced. This smart key lock was recently purchased at Home Depot. I would highly recommend using this locksmith. They were courteous and very helpful explaining the issues with the lock.
