I had a new front door and Larson Storm/Security door installed by another company. My new Larson Storm Door had a proprietary 'QuickFit' handle that used a wafer key (the short little keys). I wanted to get this keyed to match my new Kwikset deadbolt on my main door, but you can't rekey a wafer cylinder to a Kwikset key. I contacted the door manufacturer and they sold and shipped me a replacement front trim plate for the storm door handle that included a Kwikset-compatible key cylinder. I then needed to find a locksmith to rekey the new cylinder to match my front door. I searched Yelp and found Bob and gave him a call. Though he was out and about working he quoted me a ridiculously good price via text and said he'd stop by on his way home if he was able (Friday evening; I let him know I'd be around all night), and if he couldn't make it then it'd be Saturday. I figured I'd just be sending the new trim plate with him, he'd rekey it at home, and I'd pick it back up from him. Nope - he showed up at my house just after 8:30pm on Friday, took my current main door key, and the new trim plate with Kwikset cylinder out to his car. (Within City of Sacramento, outside of Sacramento has additional fee for travel) There were some hiccups with trying to schedule him but he had a really busy week. After getting the locks rekeyed, he knocked down the price to $40 for the inconvenience and later refunded the whole thing to my surprise. The home I purchased did not come with the correct keys, so I first tried using home warranty insurance, thinking that this is what the insurance is for. As a first time home buyer, I had not gotten the memo that home warranty insurance is a scam and is good for nothing but a gimmicky perk to make homes seem more protected against defects than they actually are.
