My family loves this place!!! It's beautiful inside and you just want to hang out here. It's quite enough to hear each other and it's comfortable. The bathrooms are even super cute. The margherita pizza is so crazy good that we crave it all the time. The french fries are always perfect and so good! Add a side of aioli to dip them in. The Moscow Mules are the best we've ever had. They make their own ginger syrup and they just rock! We've loved every server we've had and we just really enjoy every meal there. Lastly, we appreciate the care you feel in everything done here. It's not the cheapest meal, but since it's consistently yummy, it doesn't bother us. We could eat there every week! read more

5 Stars for the food & drink 2 Stars for service There is no doubt these people know what they are doing in the kitchen. That is apparent through the reviews that rave about it. Hands down delicious! The downfall is the wait & service. I understand that when opening a small business you start small, but I have never not had a wait at Limestone. Granite...I've only gone in the evening. With that wait there really isn't a place for you to wait without feeling in the way. The greeter will let you just stand in front of the front door until your table is ready. My group relocated to the bar on our own & was told there was more standing space in the back hall of the restaurant. We ordered drinks at the bar after previewing the oscillating menu on the tv. I chose the coffee stout & it was a fantastic choice! It made me very happy during our 20min wait. After being seated we were waited on and the waitress had wonderful knowledge of the menu & presented the specials to us by memory & it was very impressive. Food came in a timely fashion, waitress checked on us occasionally & all was great until our check came. My party consisted of 6 women around the age of 30 and we were handed one check.... we didn't all split a large pizza where we could ask to have the check divided between our credit cards. Some of us ordered drinks or salads & dinner etc. etc. Anyways...after trying to get her attention many times, our waitress returned to our table and agreed to split the check. After doing so, myself & a friend noticed that we were overcharged for our beers. The tv screen menu said that the beers were $4 and we were charged $5 (I know...$1 big deal..). But it's the principle. My friend asked if that could be changed on our bills since the menu we read clearly says $4. We were then told that the menus that had been on our table said that the beers were $5. Well we ordered at the bar where it says Specials and $4. The waitress leaves and then another lady (who didn't specify her roll as a manager) appears to let us know that the beer has always been $5.... We again inform this lady of the TV Menu and she said it must be a typo (a typo that appears in two different places on that screen mind you). Then she left. We all looked at each other a little confused and then realized that was her way of letting us know we were wrong and that we would not be getting our bills corrected. I realize $1 might sound petty, but it's the principle... As someone in customer service that's when you apologizes for the confusion and maybe thank the customer dining with them & maybe even for informing them of the misleading menus. Side Note- I am not someone who believes that "the customer is always right". I just think this was handled very poorly by the wait staff. read more

The hostess was incredibly snobby and rude, we had a group of 5 and that apparently ruined her whole night. GO HERE. It's pizza for grownups! But kids will love it too. Three of us dropped in for a quick meal, and we were lucky to get a table. Our order was simple: two 12" pizzas (to share between the three of us) and each their signature Limestone salad. Sorry, but can't comment on the beers & wine, as we didn't try them *this* time. Our pizzas were the Margherita and the Local ham & kale w/ gruyere & red chili oil, at $8 and $10. Both were excellent. The former had a wonderful fresh minced basil-olive-oil drizzle over the top, fresh mozzarella, and super crisp crust. The latter, my favorite, had wonderful ingredients and was something out of the ordinary. They also have a house-made Sriracha sauce that took it all up a notch. The Limestone salad was also delicious; a small, densely compact mix of micro and regular herbs & greens, slivers of carrot, and a tangy vinaigrette that works well with the pizza. I doubt that most kids would enjoy it as much as we did, as it is definitely adult like, but we really enjoyed the flavors and freshness. The Farmer is topped off with an egg, over medium, and shaved bacon slices. If you like potatoes, you can't go wrong with the potato pizza. I recommend the pepperoni pizza. Although I've not had it myself, my boyfriend and I go there often and it never disappoints. Friendly staff and fast service. This didn't live up to my expectation. I wanted more cheese, less burnt, and more oregano. Not a deal breaker though just a preference. I'll be back though! Okay, first off, you walk into this place off of mass and it's this stupid cute place and it's wood, metal, aesthetically pleasing and lit... well, perfectly. Split a pizza (all great) and try other dishes. Agree the crust is crust of my personal dreams: charred and chewy. Ask for hot sauce because it is so good. I always get the anchovies because they are lemony, fresh, delightful. Tried the shoshitos and will definitely do that again. The roast root vegetable salad with chard is always awesome. Their house salad is excellent - I love the lemon flavor and crisp radishes. Good selection of beer - Free State's Garden Party summer brew deserves the award it got. Even though we arrived an hour early when asked the server said the are usually turned down but not today because they close early. Hmmm. I love this place so much I've eaten there twice this week! I really enjoy how they have remodeled the space, it's contemporary but also welcoming. The kitchen is open so you can see the food being prepared, and the wood fired pizza oven is right there behind the line so you can watch them baking all of the delicious pizzas. Not only do they make a great pizza, the cheeseburger might be my favorite in town! The staff is great, all very welcoming and attentive. Oh, and Limestone has wine on tap! With former head baker, Mike, of Wheat Fields Bakery and Cafe making the dough, this pizza place immediately won me over. It has a great ambience with a mixed crowd, a nice bar with a good selection drinks and brews beside a wood-fired oven right in the middle of the restaurant for you to be able to see your pizza made. I ordered the Margherita and was very pleased to see a perfectly cooked crust, although it could have been tossed slightly thinner than I received, with a great tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella. His twist on the basil was welcome -- a basil infused olive oil drizzled in just the right amount on the pizza to add that perfectly sweet basil flavor. I give this place a lot of props for making a good, creative Italian pizza in the Midwest U.S. I would definitely come back and sample more of their menu! read more

They got it right eventually but by that time, I had finished my meal. I went to Limestone with a friend and her mom. We got the special which was a Bahnmizza which is supposed to be the pizza equivalent to Bahn Mi. The pizza was disgusting. It did not resemble the sandwich at all. The fact that it had huge pork chunks and a thick layer of mustard just threw me off. We went yesterday around lunch and the place was mostly empty - the service was SOOOO SLOW! We were there over an hour and a half when we only have an hour for lunch! We also never got our water container refilled and it look at least 10 min to get water after we were seated to begin with. My wife and I were so excited for this new addition to the downtown Lawrence food scene. We waited the appropriate amount of time post opening to let the bugs get worked out and finally made our move. To start, the service was very out of sorts. We originally ordered the ham and kale, only to find out later that they were out of ham. So, no problem we ordered a mushroom and a margherita pizza. In observing the staff and the manner in which things were coming out the kitchen, it was clear that management has not worked out the bugs on that end yet. While they were friendly, they were also slow and non-responsive. We watched food come from the kitchen and sit, and sit, and sit in the window until a server finally came to pick up it. We received our pizza and from the start I was completely underwhelmed. Both pizzas were very short on ingredients. In fact, in both cases the ingredients covered barely a third of the overall pizza. The rest being an incredibly thick and chewy crust. We felt like we were eating a loaf of bread rather than eating a pizza. When it was all over, the three people who shared two pizzas were still hungry. I might also add that the pizza was flat out burned in several places and the burnt flavor really took away from any of the other ingredients. One bright point was the sauce on the margherita, when you could taste it, was fantastic, but generally was overwhelmed by the burnt taste. We honestly expected a lot more of Limestone considering the pedigree of its owners. Right now, we can go to several locations on Mass street and get consistently good pizza, with the appropriate amount of ingredients for nearly the same price. For the time being, we will continue to go elsewhere until we hear that things have changed. As a side note, I thought perhaps we have a unique experience considering the other positive reviews so I asked around my office to see if anyone had a different experience. I found two associates who ate there and reported the same experience we had. I hope they get it worked out. We both think this is a cool concept. We would like to support a local business, but they have to produce a product that keeps us coming back first. By far the most food quality consistent, chef-owned restaurant I have visited in Lawrence. The chef is there all the time to make sure his customers get exactly the same level of quality per meal. Every time the same dish, with exactly the same taste and texture consistency. Truly inspiring. Finally visited limestone after hearing all the hoopla and big article in the paper about locally grown fresh products all made in house imagine my dismay when you walk and back and find empty cans for recycling and jars. Food was moderate to good nothing spectacular. Service was slow took awhile for food when there were only 5 tables. I own my own place and work long hours making as much as possible from scratch and by fresh produce when available, but don't act like your saving the world by some fresh products. This is some of the best pizza I've had outside of Italy. The reason I have taken my rating down from 5 to 3 stars is the service. I called earlier today to see if they were doing the Monday special pizza "the big kahuna" because today is Memorial Day, and I wanted to also see if there was happy hour. As soon as I could get the question out the person who answered the phone was so excited to get off the phone she said bye mid sentence and was in general very rude. Our waiter seemed so happy to be there. I mean his dead monotone voice and glares of angst while getting us our food made us feel right at home! When we wanted to leave our waiter followed standard protocol below. Ignore table for 10 min Bring a box. But doesn't say a word. Doesn't bring check at all. Counts a stack of cash at the bar. Gets a back rub from the bartender. Chats with manager (probably about how hilarious it is to ignore a table) Walks by table. Finally brings check. Goes back by the bar to put out the vibe, scope out the babes! Yeah man groovy! MANAGER Comes by 5 min later to grab the check. Manager drops off check WAITER swings by just before his tip is written just to say "thanks for coming in." My family and I went to the KU basketball game, it was their first time and I hadn't been back to Lawrence in 20 years. After the game I really wanted to show them the best of Lawrence and knew I wanted to eat on Mass St. I found this place in Yelp. We ordered 2 margarita pizzas, a sausage pizza, the grilled cheese, and fries. The pizzas were very, very good. Chewy crust, not too much dough and the pizza sauce and olive oil were fantastic!
