I saw a complaint that the food is overpriced and costs more than Thai food at 4 star 100 percent organic restaurants in Los Angeles. I think that is absurd. If true, which I doubt, I bet those L.A. portions are 20% the size of these. And yes, the kid is in the restaurant but I like the family vibration more than corporate living. As for the woman who saw lard going into a pan....was that for one dish or several? Was it lard or vegetable shortening? The first time I went here, it was not great. I posted a yelp review, and the owner replied with a lot of excuses. That review is somehow removed. Moving forward, I decided I should give them a 2nd chance. Maybe I hit them in a bad week. The high points: the food is good, prepared fresh, hot, pretty quickly. She will vary the spicing if you tell her "Thai hot, not American hot". Her kitchen is very clean. The low points: they need to spend more effort in their evenings (when they're closed) cleaning up the place. Remove the carpeting that holds onto spills, repaint the walls, replace the very worn serving counter. We're not talking a huge investment. The Cook - she is excellent! Her staff (I think he's her husband) - gosh, he's dedicated to his wife. But take a look at the reviews. Many low scores are because of his approach with his customers. I absolutely love small town sleeper ethnic restaurants. Several years ago I got blown away by some Chinese food in Colorado, and it has happened again in Longview with this Thai food. The basil tofu here was probably the best I've had, besting the Thai places I've been in Houston, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Portland, and heaven knows where else. Lots of basil, small perfectly-cooked pieces of tofu, and cooked Thai spicy as requested. I do hesitate to give 5 stars hastily, so if I can make it back there before leaving town, the review will be updated. The curries are calling my name. Update: two days after my first meal here, I went back and can now vouch for the green curry - and solidify my rating. Never had Thai food before eating here so I can't really compare it to anything but this place is really really good. You can tell they use high quality ingredients. Update: my previous review was from eating here a couple of years ago. I returned today for lunch and I swear this place has gotten even better than I remember. It's 5 star all day long. Prices seem high when you look at the menu but once your food arrives and you taste the food you realize they could probably get even more for the food. I don't have any idea how the lady that does the cooking gets so much flavor into the food but I was blown away today. Word of warning, spicy means very spicy. I chose to eat here a few weeks ago from the reviews, my love for Thai food and being the only game in town i decided to give it a shot. I was sorely dissapointed with the quality of the food. First lets look at the curry. Fresh veggies, Check.That was the highlight.the Chicken was dry and pre boiled before being added to the dish. Curry was runny with a lack of curry paste influence and flavor. Pad Thai. ehh. Not sweet, chicken again pre boiled and the shrimp were pre frozen and you could taste the preservative used in the shrimp. At least they had the preserved turnip in it as is required. To top it off the wait was long and they charged me 5 dollars for something I didn't order. I'll wait till I am home or in Houston to get good thai, even though I go to Kilgore/ Longview monthly they couldn't pay me to eat here again, although the drunken noodles looked tasty. I travel throughout the Southern USA and I love Thai food. I have been to Thailand 5 times and Lil Thai House is by far my favorite Thai restaurant stop in the US. I try to plan my route around a stop for lunch here. Their hours are somewhat peculiar, so make note of when they are open. I always get the Spicy Beef. It is truly spicy. Definitely not the place to catch a QUICK lunch. The seating is very limited and, as previously stated, the food is prepared to order with the only exception being the Vietnamese spring rolls which are in the cooler. I didn't try them this time, but will next. We arrived just before noon to wait in line about 20 minutes just to order. Good thing though since all of the 10 or so tables were completely filled when we got there AND one cleared just in time for us to be seated. It was another 20 minutes before our food arrived. The atmosphere brings to mind a small, overcrowded bus station but was not so loud as to prohibit conversation at the table. I chose the ginger chicken and was pleased with the dish though I can't say it compares to the same dish prepared at a restaurant that was in Tyler about 5 years ago called Baan Nitaya whose rendition of ginger chicken was second to none. The Lil Thai version has a generous portion of chicken (white and dark meat) with a blend of oriential vegetables and an ample portion of ginger. It is served with a side of steamed rice. My dining companion chose the Drunken Fried Rice - a unique rendition with vegetables and pineapple in a nicely flavored rice mixture. The hot Jasmine tea lightly sweetened with raw sugar was a good accompaniment. My next visit will be during off hours. They are open for lunch and dinner (till 9pm) Monday through Friday and (disappointingly) closed weekends. read more

Having just moved to Longview from Houston, and being a die hard-Thai addict, I was very concerned about finding a decent Thai restaurant. We went to lil Thai house on Thursday for dinner. We followed fellow yelpers suggestions to arrive early and were welcomed by the owner. We were the 2nd to order and received our meals in no time at all. Our 1 year old was out of control and the owner could not have been nicer about all of her noise making. The menu is small, but has the tried & true Thai favorites. **My only wish is that they would add thai cheese rolls.** Our food was very good and we will definitely return, if for no other reason but to support this small business. The space is small but friendly with a really nice feel to it. The menu items all sound delicious and from what I saw, large enough portions to split. Today I had the Pineapple fried rice for lunch on recommendation from the owner. The fried rice was delicious. The chicken and shrimp are accented with raisins, cashews, onions and the juiciest freshest pineapple I have ever had. Overall, I had a great lunch. Left stuffed to the gills. Little Thai House has been in place for some time but I have never visited until a couple of days ago when a friend invited me. I've never had Thai food so I played it safe with my ordering. I always dread new places because eating vegetarian in Longview can be a real chore. First, it is an intimate restaurant but with surprisingly good seating. We had no problem finding a table having arrived just before the lunch rush. The cashier was super friendly and knew the menu without looking. When I looked confused he asked to help, when I asked about vegetarian he was quick to make sure I wasn't meaning vegan. I ordered a vegetarian plate with rice that was huge, fresh, and delicious. I don't recall it taking long but the kitchen is small and everything is made to order so I can see how it could take longer. Before the food arrived I was offered an order of vegetarian fried rice because a vegan hadn't ordered correctly. It was great. There is a nice selection of sauces in each table. I grabbed s drink from the cooler and before I could turn back around a cup of ice was offered to me. The food is on a plate; a real one. The utensils are both plastic. Drink cups are Styrofoam. Napkins are provided. Food quality was stellar. So was food quantity. I am 5'11" and can EAT. But I had more than I could finish and someone happily put the extra in a box for me. Our plates were cleared as soon as they were empty. I have no doubt that our table was clear within 60 seconds of our departure. My only disappointment was/is that it isn't open for dinner. I will be back for lunch. Many times. The food is a little expensive but the ingredients are farm fresh so I think it is worth it. My lunch companion had plate envy. He ordered a noodle dish that was a little too oily but I imagine that's a correct presentation of the dish. We just didn't know what we were ordering.
