Have been to Lil Charlie's a couple of times, and I can't say that I was too impressed. Was told to try their chicken with Mac & cheese (forgot the name of the dish) and honestly wasn't thrilled. Their chicken wasn't anything special if I'm being honest. The service was great both times we have been. And being there is only outside dining, we have always taken our food to-go. This little spot is right on a corner in downtown Lockhart, so there's always cars passing by. The parking lot can become full, but there is plenty of parking near by. read more

My Ball and Chain (Ray, he's usually my main star in my reviews, but lately he's been acting like a villain) decided we should probably get a little bite of something, to perk us up! I personally was thrilled when I saw the can of BIG RED!!! I LOVE BIG RED, as much as I love Texas (GOD BLESS TEXAS!!!)! If y'all have never tried Big Red, you're missing an emotional experience!!! Then I started reading the menu and my disposition changed into pure delight! I swear, I became a different gal! They had Fried Okra! I love fried okra and hadn't had it, since I had moved from Texas! I order the Chicken Tender combo w fried okra. The tenders were dipped in Buffalo sauce. The meal was Chicken Tenders For My Soul! Everything was perfectly cooked (fried) and so tasty! The meal ONLY cost $7.00! My husband, Ray (the Villain of this review) ordered the Fish & Shrimp Combo. It looked Great! I didn't try any and I didn't ask if he liked it or not. There's only outside seating and drive thru available for your dining options. It was warm today, so I asked the lil gal working at the counter for a cup of ice to pour my Big Red in. She said, they do not have ice or cups at Lil Charlie's. (WHAT?!?!?! No ice, in Central Texas?!?!) The no ice thing is my only gripe. After 5-6 minutes of trying to eat our food, the flies and bees decided they wanted to dine with us. This little food establishment is very convenient for those of you who are on the run. They have a drive thru as well as covered parking being sort of like a drive inn also with outdoor seating . The food is amazing and is just a simple little place with the menu written outside the establishment for easy access. Came here to get some appetizers and I was quite pleased. I ordered the cheese sticks that were so crispy, cheesy, filling, and seasoned so nicely. I was happy with them. I also ordered the pickled spears that were also very yummy. They were also well seasoned. Their ranch dip tasted homemade. They have canned sodas, a variety of delicious foods such as wings, chicken strips, including seafood like fried fish and shrimp. You don't have to wait too long for your order. Again, Lil Charlie's is so convenient if you want to use their drive thru, if you want to sit outdoors, or if you want to park, order your food, and enjoy your meal in your vehicle. We ordered the fish combo ,and the bone in wing combo. We also opted for the cheese stick appetizer as well. There was no wait to order, as it was a chilly day. The girl ringing us up gave us a pager, and told us we could wait in our car. It took a little while to cook our order, but we didn't mind. We took our order home and we were so pleasantly surprised to find large portions. The fish was crispy, and so were the fries. I had gotten the onion rings, and they were cooked perfectly and seriously delicious. The mac and cheese ..... Absolutely no words. I will definitely be back because this food is seriously good! Not much in the way of looks. Very run down building and parking lot. All outside no curbside must exit vehicle in high temps and wait outside for your order to be called. No plates on outside electrical outlets seem very unsafe. Food is good. Just not a comfortable place to visit. I suggest Sonic to this place. read more

I always get the loaded curly fries. They are insanely good and comes in a huge portion for a great price. I've become a regular. We also get the fried pickles and wings. Amazing food! I've been coming here almost weekly for about 6 months. The staff is so friendly and the food is made quickly and comes out piping hot (a parent's dream!) I always get the honey bbq tenders. The price is phenomenal in comparison to the amount of food you receive. We pay about $10/meal, and get 3 tenders, fries, a roll, and mac and cheese! This usually turns into 2 meals for me. We have recently discovered that if you buy the family pack (10 tenders and 2 sides), you spend like $2 more than buying 2 meals (we paid $25 for a family pack) and you get 10 tenders, an entire to-go box of fries, another entire to-go box of mac & cheese, and 4 rolls; all for just $25. This fed me, my boyfriend and our son AND we still had leftovers. read more

The food is good but definitely not worth the wait, price, or costumer service. Our first experience here we ordered a large order through the walk-in window, they took a little bit of time but nothing extraordinary. The blonde girl taking orders was very rude, kept rushing, seemed like she didn't want to work there, and kept trying to shut the window when we weren't done ordering/speaking. When we paid it's like she just wanted to charge out, no thank you, no smile, nothing. The food was good and fresh but customer service was horrible. We definitely didn't feel welcomed AT ALL. The bags the food was in were so cheap that they ripped when we got in the car and had to go ask for more. A few days later we decided to give them a second chance and went for a small order through the "drive-thru". We placed the order and paid then immediately got pulled over to one of the parking spot numbers. What they said would take "a few minutes" ended up taking OVER AN HOUR! They kept getting orders out behind us that were placed after us but didn't care about time to give us our food. Not even the first big order took this long. One time was all it took to become addicted! Literally I have not had one thing from here that did not exceed my expectations. The fried pickles? They are spears(and typically I wouldn't like that) but they're SO GOOOOOOOD. I've cooked dinner and come here just for the fried pickles. The wings are amazing. Crispy and covered in sauce. I had been eating salads and sandwiches the past few days and decided to go all out! My family and I happened to be driving from Port Aransas headed to Austin Texas and typed "wings" in for our lunch stop/ break and I am fully satisfied and stuffed laying down in the back seat writing this review. We got a variety.., chihuaweenie dog(avocados and pico) frito pie(with fresh jalapeños but they don't completely burn your mouth, chili cheese fries with jalapeños, and original hot and traditional bone in chicken wings. This place was amazing! Old drive-in style building. With quite a few wing flavors! We got mild, A1, honey BBQ, ranch and lemon pepper. A nice variety. All of them were great! The wings are fried naked. (Not a fan of breaded) nice and crispy! Juicy inside. Mac and cheese was a simple style, good firm cheese, not watery like some places make it. Fried okra was good. Completely underwhelming experience. The reviews about great flavor, huge wings, and large portions are all FALSE. The wings were small and swimming in grease. The cheese sticks were battered in chicken tender batter and had very little cheese. Fried okra was ok and waffle fries were the same you can buy at the store. Mac 'N Cheese was not bad, but very runny. Honestly, the best part of the meal was the bottle of Dr. Pepper. The wings were pretty good (got quite a few with broken bones though). Maybe they were just having a bad night but I waited for just under half an hour (they said 5 minutes). The wait wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't gotten home to old sides. It seemed like they had to wait on the chicken but plated the sides right away because the chicken was definitely fresh while the rest was not. I will likely go back, only for wings. read more
