Came here for printing as Staples was kind of ridiculously priced. This has much better pricing for sure. ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: 7/10 It's in an office building on 42nd hidden kind of behind the Chase Bank. Kind of an inconspicuous location and rather hard to find on your own. I found it through Yelp thankfully. The price is really reasonable, but I think there is a $5 minimum. After that it is 40 cents a page for color. Not sure what black and white is but it is far better than Staples or FedEx for sure. SERVICE : 10/10 Quick, prompt and very reasonable printing service. For a larger project, I'd for sure go here rather than anywhere else in the city. PROBABILITY OF RETURN: 9/10 The best printing place I have found in the city so far. OVERALL: 9/10 read more

Round 1: They helped me print my wedding invitations and Jordan was my main point person. He answered all my incessant questions via phone and email. My print job was a bit high-maintenance in that it contained 4 different files, with different quantities for each, using 2 different types of card stock paper (which I provided). I was a bit skeptical when they said they'd have it for me the next day, but lo and behold, not 24 hours later I get an email telling me my prints were ready. And they came out perfectly! Justin also charged me a very reasonable price. 5 stars! Round 2: Came back for a reprint of my original invites. Greg helped me out for this round. Brought my own paper again but needed a significantly smaller print amount. This time I was charged double the amount per sheet, and when I started cutting them, the double-sided prints weren't even aligned properly. FUMING! 3 stars *fuming face* Overall, 4 stars. Wow, did I go to the wrong place? Talk about employees who don't give a sh*t. I went to this place because of the great reviews and was treated extremely poorly by Jordan, whom I'm assuming is a manager? Endured a painstaking process on getting invitations printed which took way more effort on my part than necessary - looking at me like I was asking for his first born child when I requested to see a few examples on different stock before making my final purchase. I sent him print-ready files, and confirmed pick up times, which he never seemed to adhere to. When I get there to pick up the invites at the confirmed time, he asks me to come back a half an hour later. Fine. So when I return, he doesn't even start cutting until I get there, and does the job in a total rush. Needless to say all of the borders on the invitations were crooked. I guess that happens when you try to cut 40 all at once. When I pointed this out, he gave me attitude and actually raised his voice saying "FINE I'LL DO THEM AGAIN". Completely unacceptable treatment and attitude, these people don't have anything close to a market share on the printing business in NYC, so I'd suggest some customer service. The invites turned out fine, but this assh*le snapping at me for something he messed up, is reason enough for me deciding not to return. read more

You're going to walk into this place and be unimpressed, but you would be wrong. Lightning Copy is a little hole-in-the-wall store across from a golf shop inside the very corporate, marble 60 E 42nd St. I went here after trying Kinkos and wondering where I could find somewhere to print the addresses on my wedding invitation envelopes. How can NYC not have somewhere better than kinkos? It does. Frank, the man I dealt with, told me over the phone to email him a PDF of the envelopes. I went in later that day to drop off the stock and he ran me off a copy. The first one looked great, except that the heat from the laser printer had smudged the return address (thermography). Frank told me to wait while he made an adjustment to the printer. Next envelope? Perfect. This shop seems like the kind of place with very picky clients and they are used to getting things right. I will definitely be back with future business. read more

After reading positive reviews of Lightning Copy on Yelp and receiving additional details from them via email, I decided to visit the midtown copy shop and have the addresses on my wedding invitations printed there. Working with them was amazingly simple and the whole process quite efficient. I brought my envelopes to their store and sent them an email with my preferred font and color along with an excel document containing the addresses to be printed. That same day, they sent me a single PDF proof. After approving it, they emailed a second PDF with the full list the following day. I noted a few changes, and everything was ready a couple days later. The entire project was completed very quickly and primarily via e-mail. I only had to visit the store twice (dropping off and picking up). I didn't get raised print and am unsure if they offer this service, but they were just what I needed -- inexpensive, convenient, and a pleasure to work with. read more

Jordan helped me print out my wedding invitations for my big day! They were reasonably priced and seriously lightning quick. Jordan always left me a vmail once the prints were ready. He always offered his expert advise regarding the pixilation of the prints but went ahead once I gave the OK. I provided heavy cardstock and that brought the price down. I went back for a second round of prints (you know when your mother decides to invite ALL her coworkers...) and the prices were a bit higher than the first time around, but I didn't feel like nitpicking. Make sure you speak with Jordan regarding pricing because the first person I spoke to via the phone quoted a much higher price. Very happy with how the invites turned out - thanks Jordan! Note - they are located inside a big office building. Walk through the doors until you hit a corridor on the right, walk past a few stores and you'll see Lightning on your left. After hearing so many great things about Lightning on Yelp, I decided to give it a try. I had a job interview in Gramercy at 10, so I made a pit stop at this copy center on my way, with over half an hour remaining to get to the interview. I walked in and Greg was sitting at his desk, behind a partition...completely out of view, but I could hear him speaking on the phone. No problem. I waited until he was done speaking to his phone customer before saying anything. When I told him I just needed to print a copy of my resume from my email account, he informed me that he didn't have a public computer and I would have to forward it to him in an email. Inconvenient, but understandable. However, my resume was saved as a Google Document AND my phone wasn't getting service inside the shop, which was strange...because it was on the ground floor. I attempted to tell him this and was met by the partition. He answered the phone despite the fact that I was looking to him for help, and when he talked on and on for five minutes (with me politely giving him looks and signs that I needed help), I gave up. He clearly didn't give a crap, even though I had been at the store long before this new customer called. After being totally ignored for five minutes, I knew I would be late for my interview if I stayed. I had to go to the interview without a copy of my resume, which was clearly asked for by my prospective boss. DO NOT go to this place! And if you do, make sure you know that Greg will do his best to make you feel ignored and unwanted and stupid. read more

I had a 3pm order to get printed same day and Jordan was on top of it. This is the first time I've used them, and the service was amazing and the product came out much better than I had expected. The only negative thing about my experience was that because it was short notice, I didn't catch that I used true black in one section, but not another. It's definitely my mistake, but I would have loved if they caught this for me before printing the order. I'm more mad at myself than anything else though, and even with the two different shades, it still looks great. I would definitely use them again. read more

Giving them a 4.8! ;) When you first walk into the copy center, it's a little overwhelming. Small space with boxes everywhere. Literally, in order for one of the workers to pass me by, he had to remove boxes out of the space. It seems disorganized but it looks like they've got organized chaos going on. Normally, that would make me extremely nervous but my fellow Yelpers, you gave them good reviews, so I gave 'em a shot! And I'm glad I did. I needed wedding invites printed out as soon as possible. I had the image all ready to go and worked with Jordan. Jordan is great. I first called them to get a price quote and he was patient, friendly, and answered all of my questions. I ended up visiting in person, unannounced, with my invite paper (they didn't have it at their store (Opal) but said that I could bring it in and they'd print on it -- cost is cheaper that way!), and while they were very busy, Jordan was still very personable and took my order down. I was there around 11:30am and got an email around 5pm, THE SAME DAY, stating that it was ready. Really awesome! I couldn't actually make it to the print shop until the next day but I was pretty impressed on how quickly my order was completed. Total cost was around $54 for us (140 in total -- 70 printed invites & 70 RSVPs + trimming -- but again, we brought our own paper, and emailed him the file to view). While Jordan didn't necessarily recognize me the next day, I am not going to hold that against him. They are clearly a busy copy center and I think they work hard! So, I really give them a great score for their effort and maintaining a great business in the chaos of the papers amongst papers amongst papers! The copy shop is located in a really nice building too. Just walk straight through and make a right! I found these guys via yelp and am glad I did. They were in the neighborhood and needing a very quick turn-around for a very low quantity job, I was impressed by the helpful and friendly service. I needed a full bleed tri-fold and they helped me consider my options with genuine concern. The end product came out great and better than I could expect for such a quick job. I've read and understood other reviews about service issues, but I think I'd rather they tell me that they're too busy for my job than tell me they can do it and then not be able to pull through in the end. I've had plenty of experiences where printers were not able to meet their proposed deadlines which ultimately affect mine. I also think that you have to consider what you're asking for and whether these guys are the right fit for the job. They seem like a small operation, so they're going to have reasonable limitations. Personally, sometimes I think it's nice to be able to go to a small old school business like this one and get the personal service that let's me breathe a little easier. I just assumed to not go to Kinkos, because service and quality can be spotty from past experience. I was even more ecstatic that I went to these guys, because when I passed a local Kinko's on the way back, I was curious and asked Kinko's if they could help me with a tri-fold, they simply said that they don't do that. I had that same feeling you get when waiting on a very slow line at McDonald's at 11am and being turned down for ordering a breakfast sandwich. read more

Getting my wedding invitation addressed at Lightning Copy Center was such a pleasant experience. I am overwhelmed with work and wedding planning but this place helped me get what I needed to get done, done. I am recommending them to everyone I know who need their services. Jordan who took my order understood exactly what I wanted to be done with my envelops. I explained it once and he got it. We communicated via e-mail often and he responded promptly. As mentioned before, the appearance of the center can scare you when you come in but do not let this affect your opinion on their work. They are good at what they do. My only issue was the bill. I would have loved to be clear on the price per envelops. The prices are good but as an accountant, I would have loved to know exactly what each envelop cost to address. They should break down their bill a tiny bit more. Overall, I am a happy costumer. read more

I e-mailed the Lightning Copy staff at 1am last night, panicked in my search to find a low quote for printing single sided black and white scripts to be printed the same day. By 7am that day I had a response from Greg, one of the kind and friendly employees. He provided me the quote, and answered me within the hour when I asked for additional information. I arrived fifteen minutes after they opened the shop, at 8:45am, and the full staff was there and ready to help me with my needs. I had eleven copies of a 101 page script printed, hole punched, and in their designated binders in less than fifteen minutes. They made this job seem like a so easy and simple! The staff was kind, friendly, and quick to answer my questions. Their prices are extremely reasonable, and by choosing them I saved over $75, compared to the quote FedEx/Kinkos gave. Best part - 100% more customer service than I've ever received at any other print shop (ahem, Kinkos). I left my credit card at the shop. I called back a few hours later, and friendly Greg answered the phone and apologized for not returning my card (of course not his fault, as I was frantic), and he held onto it for me. The staff was quick to return it to me when I came back that afternoon. *Edit - This does seem to be a shop for large print jobs, since they don't have a computer for public use. Also, there is no cell phone service (for Verizon at least) inside their shop since it's buried within an enormous corporate building. It's a small, not entirely spacious place, but it's well worth their amazing prices!! No complaints, if you call or e-mail ahead these folks will do the rest. Overall this was the best printing experience I've had in NYC. Highly recommended. read more

I was thrilled with my service. It's so nice to use a store that is not a huge Staples/Office Depot chain for my printing needs. I am new to New York and researched a number of copy stores and Lightning Copy was BY FAR the most cost effective. Not only that but Jordan got my project done the same day I emailed it in. Everything was exactly as I wanted it and have definitely found my new copy place in the city! PS the store wasn't immediately obvious to me...it is on the south side of 42nd across from Grand Central. Originally, I had asked for a 13x17 print for my portfolio. It was priced at $2 per sheet! I was amazed and ready to jump at that price, but I realized it was actually 14x17. I was then told the new size, they kept jumping around with prices back to back without me asking any questions, and then finally refused the job all together. Whoever was talking on the phone was quite rude, even though all I was doing was listening. I print very often and definitely wont be using this shop again for materials other than quick copies. read more

If you are looking for a professional copy shop in NYC, look no further than this hidden gem, buried in the posh lobby of a midtown office building directly across the street from Grand Central Station. There are three main reasons Lightning Copy is great. The first, and probably most important, is the people who run the shop. The two main gentlemen who work there, Jordan and Greg, are courteous, professional, and accommodating. If you're having trouble figuring out the best way to do a print job, they won't give you a blank stare, they'll tell you your options, give you advice based on their experience, and help you figure out how to best accomplish what you need. They'll try (harder than almost any business would, in my experience) to meet your deadline, even if it's unreasonable. The second reason Lightning Copy is great is because they're professionals, by which I mean, they know how to use their machines: they know what they're capable of, what is going to get the best result, what paper will work well, or not well, how to achieve color matches, etc. If you need additional services, like binding or cutting prints to size, they're up to those tasks as well. The final reason is that, unlike FedEx/Kinkos or the copy center at Staples, their prices are GREAT. Not just reasonable -- cheap! You might expect those big box stores to be able to provide better prices by economy of scale, and they probably could...but they don't have to, and for whatever reason, instead they rip you off. You will honestly be SHOCKED by how cheap your print job will be at Lightning Copy if you've gotten an estimate anywhere else. Rare these days is a business run by professionals who do great work but still offer affordable services. It's almost too good to be true. Fortunately, I have the impression their business is sustained by the various law firms and other businesses in the building, hopefully meaning they will continue to be around for a long time to come. read more

These guys. . . Lemme tell ya, they came through when no one else would, and I mean NO ONE. They saved me a bunch of money and relieved a BIG stress from my mind. What we needed : Wedding invites and RSVPs printed on 5x7" and 3.5x4.875" linen paper purchased online I called around ten to fifteen places all around Manhattan (big guys and small), who all refused to print on our paper, either because the texture was too rough, or because the paper was too small, or were willing to print on it for exorbitant amounts of money (over $100 for 100 sheets!). We had given up hope, and had even trudged to Staples to buy their linen paper and get the invitations printed on it, but backed out because Staples didn't have any envelopes to match their paper. As a last-ditch effort, I called Lightning Copy and went over with my paper in hand. Jordan didn't even bat an eye. He happily printed everything I wanted on our paper! Not only that, my order was fulfilled from start to finish in about four hours! They couldn't print on the RSVP paper because it was too small, but Jordan managed to fit two RSVPs on the 5x7 paper and then cut it down for us to the exact size we needed. They came through for us big time, when we were pretttttttttty frustrated and irritated at every print shop in NYC (and ourselves, for buying pre-cut paper). I have a few friends getting married this year, so Jordan, be ready for more orders. :) A word of advice for anyone looking to get invitations printed on your own paper: DO NOT BUY PRE-CUT PAPER! BUY LETTER-SIZED SHEETS AND GET IT CUT AFTER PRINTING! You'll save money by printing multiple invites on a single sheet, and almost every print place will happily print on your paper for you! Based on reviews, I figured I would try this place out. I needed copies of my resume and this place was super close to Grand Central Terminal, so it was supposed to be easy. As I walked in, three men were behind the counter; one on the phone, one who was turned away from me on a computer, and another directly opposite the counter I was standing, facing me. I stood there in plain sight for a good amount of time, while waiting for service. I wasn't in a hurry, and it sure didn't seem like any of them were in a hurry either, to help me out, despite me saying hi, and asking how one of them were. Finally the guy on the phone seemed like he was either irritated at me or at the fact that I hadn't been helped yet, and said to me in a dismissive tone, "waddaya need?". I simply asked if they could do printing on resume paper, and was given the response, "I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR YOU, I'M BUSY". I smiled and left, with just one word in my head. WOW. The nerve and arrogance of this creature to not even offer his service at a later time was appalling. As soon as he knew that all I needed were my resumes copied, he wanted nothing to do with me. How do you run a successful business when you are such an ignoramus? The african man in front of me was kind and professional, as was the thin older gentleman.
