Eric was very nice and professional. He has a set $50 fee to come out but the fee gets applied to the work if you go with him. He came out the next day on time and had the correct spring with him to replace a broken one. We didn't know it was a broken spring when we made the appointment so were very grateful he had the part on hand and was able to fix the door that same visit. Very unprofessional. Eric had a "Flash Sale" on Facebook. I jumped on the deal. Sent him my measurements and he said he had a door my size. Quoted me a great deal installed and we set up an installation date for that Friday. I called him Thursday to make sure everything was still a go. He said I don't think I have a door for you (really confused about the whole thing) I sold that size this morning but I will honor my price just let me get back to the shop and see what I have left. He messaged me later that night and said he never had me set up for a door install just an opener install and he doesn't have a door after all. They all sold. I understand this is a legitimate business and they need to make money, but if he told me he would honor the price because he's a man of his word and then backs out because he was bombarded with Facebook messages it isn't the customer fault. My garage door wouldn't open. I called and they were able to have me take pictures and diagnosed the problem and gave me an estimate to fix it on the phone. It was the spring that broke. The price was very fair, $200 cheaper then another company. The owner communicated regarding any scheduling changes. He was very responsive when I texted him. His worker was very nice and did a great job! What I appreciated the most was the honesty. The cable had come off when the spring broke. He put it back on and told me it was I good condition and did not need replacing. I had nothing but a great experience and would recommend this company based on everything I have written. read more

SO AWEFUL!!! We hired this company to replace our garage door. Once they replaced it, it never worked the same. The door always moved slower and just didn't seem right. Just recently it completely stopped working. My mother (who is 70) called and spoke with Eric. Eric was incredibly RUDE to her, actually started YELLING at her, and said he "doesn't offer warranties and has NO INTENTIONS of even looking at our garage door since most likely one of our own family members probably messed with it and screwed it up. " He then HUNG UP ON HER!! Absolutely SHOCKING! And he's the owner?? We called another company and explained the situation. Funny thing, the owner told us that he receives so much business from people who get screwed over by Eric! Anyways, he inspected our garage door and guess what, the 2 springs that Eric installed were INCORRECT!! They could not bear the weight of the door so they failed! Our garage door spring broke on Sunday morning and I called LH Doors that afternoon and left a message on their voicemail and letting them know it wasn't an emergency repair as our car was outside of the garage. Mid-day Monday, I received a call from Brian inquiring about the type of door and its composition. He said he could be here Tuesday morning for the repair and quoted me a very reasonable price. He arrived on time Tuesday morning, replaced the springs, checked the opener unit and serviced the door components within a little over an hour. Brian was professional, friendly, and very efficient. I would give a negative star if I could!!! I would NOT use this company! I originally ordered my door from Home Depot. No problems on their end. It all started when Eric showed up at my house to do the second remeasure. I don't know if he was having a bad day or what but he started by saying "I charge for everything I have to do." Wow, Attitude!!! He meant it too! He wanted to charge me to move two items so he could look in the back of the garage. I'm disabled and moved it myself in less than a minute to save $75.00! After he was done, there was another $200+ for trimming etc. I had two other companies come out and they both said I did NOT need the extra trim Eric wanted to UPSALE me! All in all, I went back to Home Depot, they apologized as they had heard of similar complaints and I received 100 % of my money back in full! Beware if you purchase a door from Home Depot, they will send this crook to your home, BUT you can request another dealer due to the problems. I ordered a new Garage door/opener through Home Depot, and Lighthouse did the installation. Terrific communications, showed up as scheduled, and finished within the timeline they indicated. Installer was clean, professional and the job came out perfect - note I do a lot of handy work around the house and the workmanship was well above what I was expecting. My garage door spring broke and the door is super heavy - I couldn't lift it at all. I looked online for a local repair company and came across Lighthouse Door. I saw the photo of a guy who looked strong enough to lift the door, so I called. It was Eric, the owner. I set up an appointment and planned to leave work early to meet the repair technician at my house. The morning of the appointment Eric texts me and asks if his installer, who was in the area, could come by and fix the door. Well, yeah! As it turned out, I didn't have to leave work early and lose a few hours of pay. When I got home I was thrilled to see the garage opener work again. Lighthouse Door didn't know me from anywhere, yet they went to my house, did the repair and left the bill in the mailbox, trusting me to pay. That's why I prefer to deal with a locally owned business. I already recommended this company to family, who owns homes and rental properties. Save yourself the time - DO NOT HIRE these guys!!! We actually purchased our door through Home Depot and unfortunatley LIGHTHOUSE door company is who they contracted/sent us. The first sign of trouble should have been when he tried to charge me to dispose of the old door claiming to home depot there would be an additional charge to dispose of a door built in the 70's. Our old garage door was installed in 2004 and I had to prove it to home depot. Biggest issue is that after three months of waiting, I have an expensive "custom made" garage door with a new 2 inch gap from the floor to the bottom of the door. A small cat could fit under it. Eric is so unprofessional and rude and not only was I left with a HUGE GAPING GAP, the installer left nails/staples all over our clean garage and we have small dogs. I ordered a garage door through Home Depot, which was disastrous. I didn't get a choice who was going to install our door, but I am glad it was Lighthouse Door Company. Once I figured out what installer to contact from Home Depot, Eric had Justin out the very next day to measure to make sure the door I designed would fit. Eric ordered the door shortly after. I was a little iffy at first given the hit and miss reviews of Lighthouse Door, but I found Eric to be very responsive throughout the entire process, which quickly alleviated any initial concerns I had. What really won me over was even though it was Home Depot that screwed up, Eric did an upgrade for me at no charge to make up for my experience with Home Depot, even though Lighthouse wasn't the one who made the mistake. I would not use this company again or recommend them. "They" (owner Eric) built a metal gate for us to our drawings. It was poorly made and some parts were so unprofessionally built that we had them redone at our own expense. He was very slow to finish and we had to call him back many times to fix things. He's got a pretty bad attitude for an owner. If he were my employee I'd fire him based on attitude alone. I originally hired him over a large company because I'd thought I'd have a better response all around. The prices were similar. I really wish I'd have gone with the larger company. We now need service again, probably a new part, and it's been just one year since he was paid (although he never really finished) and they won't come out unless we sign a $120/hr service agreement. My garage door was noisy and not gliding smoothly for at least the past two weeks. Well this morning...it just opened about a foot and stopped. I tried 4 or 5 times and still it would not fully open. My garage door was on its last legs after serving my house and family in Pacific Grove for over 30 years .Of course my first thought was to have a large company come in and replace it for us such as Costco or Home Depot. I do however like to try to keep my hard earned money local and I try to use local Mom and Pop business's and help keep the community purring along whenever I can. That's when I contacted Lighthouse Doors located on Forest Ave in Pacific Grove. At first glance I noticed the office and showroom were very small so there wasn't a lot of samples of garage doors to see or choose from. But they had brochures to look at which helped in my selection. I was thrilled to have a local company doing my work so on the day of installation I had high hopes. Boy was I totally let down. The attitude of the installer was so unprofessional .... and to be told that my entire garage would need to be emptied was something I was never told about prior to the installation and a complete surprise to me. Pretty bad but it gets worse !! .... we rescheduled our apt for installation , removed EVERYTHING out of our garage out onto the back yard , and waited for the installer to arrive. My wife and I happened to take showers approx. the same time that day ( which only took 5 min since we knew the installer was on his way ) between 9am and 10am. We were in the shower from 9:05 to 9:10 and we had parked all our cars in front of our house since we wanted the installer to have full access to the garage door. When we got out of the shower I found a business card on my front door saying the installer had come and gone. !!! We did not hear a knock , get a phone call , or see anyone waiting outside which is what we would expect from a local company trying to contact the client on the day of installation. All our cars were in front of our house ( 3 of them ) so any normal person would see we were home , but the " no contact " was the worst and most unprofessional service call we have ever dealt with. We immediately contacted Aaron Overhead Doors who came over immediately .... said they had heard this horror story many times from different people about Lighthouse Doors , sized up our garage door , and had it installed the NEXT DAY !!!! During the install of my garage door he arrived at my house and threw all the materials down in my garage, literally tossing brand new products. After being as loud as possible, leaving garbage behind, and speaking to me rudely, the installation was not up to my standards and now my garage door has a hiccup when it functions. After repeated calls he assures me nothing's wrong and will not come back to fix it. Small business. All work done by owner, Eric. Unfortunately I have to side with the two negative reviews. We live in a condo community that has hired Eric to replace all of the old, wooden garage doors with insulated roll up doors. Because our opener had just given up we decided to have him replace it at the same time. Took him maybe 2-1/2 hrs to make both switches. He felt that it would be faster and less work to just hook up the new Liftmaster model #3270 to the old garage door opener on/off button. Of course, now we cannot operate the light separately from the door and we also lost the lock feature with the wall control that comes with the new opener. When asked about, Eric's first reply was: "well, it works, doesn't it?" Then he claimed that the new opener did not come with a new wall control. I called liftmaster to complain about their dealer (Lighthouse Door) and they graciously decided that the easiest way to handle was to just send me the right wall control. We finally got the new control that was easy to install and now we have a complete job. Perhaps the garage door business repeat customer cycle is so long that Eric can treat his customers badly. He found a source, called us with a very reasonable price and we were back in business in the time frame he promised. Well, I have to agree with the many negative reviews of Lighthouse Door Co. and agree with the other reviewer that Yelp does need a less than 1 star rating, at least for Lighthouse DC. We purchased 2 wooden carriage doors and 2 3/4 hp openers. Also had them bid a driveway gate and opener. Held off on the driveway gate/opener, good move on our part! Job started off with Eric's bad attitude at delivery of the carriage doors, made a comment about getting day workers to move them from my driveway slope to where they would be out of harms way. Since he was by himself I helped unload them. Also showed up with 2 1/2 hp openers, glad I checked them as I paid for 3/4 hp motors. At installation gave me 2 different remotes, a 2 button and a 3 button. I mentioned I would need the 3 button remotes when I get the driveway gate. Eric mentioned he would swap them when I get the driveway gate/opener. Took his word for it, my mistake. Purchased driveway gate/opener from a different company, great move on our part! Emailed Lighthouse to swap remotes. Also pointed out I didn't get the model of remotes (Qty 2) per the opener manuals, which I should have received day 1. The correct remotes would be compatible with the new driveway gate, so made a respectful request to swap them. Also reminded them of Eric's comment to swap them. Although some time had passed they were unsupportive from the start. After 12 emails, emailing me different manuals and arguing I was wrong they said my manual must be a misprint and they passed me off to LiftMaster. LiftMaster concurred with the type I should have got (that I paid for, close to $200 value) and that I should have received the correct remotes on day 1, NOT 2 older remotes as well as 2 different model remotes for the same model new openers. I guess passing off cheaper remotes saves Lighthouse money. Contacted LiftMaster, they were very helpful/professional (unlike Lighthouse) and apologized for the problems with the dealer. They are mailing us the 2 remotes we should have received day 1. Now Monica will complain that 1-2 years passed, true. But, if you buy a Porsche and find a Jetta motor under the hood 1-2 years later, I'm sure the timeline doesn't matter. Lesson learned, check EVERYTHING you pay for from Lighthouse and compare your remotes to the manual! It's a shame you can't take peoples word for anything anymore. Also, I don't believe Lighthouse when they say they stand behind their work. Eric had the nerve to say that in his final email AFTER my problem was resolved by LiftMaster. What a joke. (emails and documentation proof available upon request) Response to Monica's comment 9/10/15: Like I mentioned, I have all the emails that back up ALL the issues during the process, Eric's rude comments during delivery, the attempt to deliver 1/2 hp motors and now the bogus remotes and current rude comments. Not hearing from someone and them getting business elsewhere (driveway gate) doesn't mean they're a happy customer. And Monica, nothing is for free. By quoting the doors and openers on a single line item on a quote does not mean they' re free. The quote does not mention "free openers", it does mention 2 remotes though... just got the wrong ones. Icing on the cake for a complete bad experience. Monica there is a theme to all the reviews, bad business and bad attitudes. By providing a good service/attitude and a good/correct product you would spend less time on Yelp... good luck! read more

I was at my wits end, so I called Lighthouse Door Company to get a Quote for my garage door repair. Erik was very honest and explained to me that just for coming out to see there would be a charge. I appreciated that he told me that in advance and not after coming to see what the problem was, as some businesses do. I had been trying for two weekends now to fix my garage door by following the users manual of my garage door opener. I explained to Erik everything that I had done according to the Manual. We just recently remodeled our home and Eric built the wooden garage door to compliment it. He provided us with examples of doors that he had made and from there we drew what we wanted. Eric created exactly what we asked for. Scheduling a timely installation was a bit tricky; however, we couldn't complain too much because he stored our door for us for several weeks while we were waiting! Our only suggestion is that future customers ask him to wipe the door down after sanding it, if he leaves it unfinished for you! Worst company ever!! We moved to CA about a year ago and had to replace our garage door the owner delivered our door that was supposed to come pre-stained and it looked like he slapped on the stain right before he came out to deliver the door, ( two weeks late I might add). The Owner opened our garage door and screamed because the bikes were not moved out of our way, it took 3 minutes max to move them. My husband had to tune him up and remind him not to speak to his wife, me, in that tone, he was so incredibly rude I couldn't believe it, I was half in shock! The quality of the door was fine it was wood and what we ordered but the one coat of stain that he slapped on last minute ruined the entire look of the door and he didn't have the hardware for the door. We complained and called and they argued and became defensive and his wife was making all sorts of excuses for him so we gave up because we just moved in our house had about 200k more work to do on the house. Frankly, I didn't have the energy to argue so we paid a painter to stain the door correctly and it looks great NO THANKS TO LIGHTHOUSE DOOR COMPANY.
