The Northern Rail Traincar Inn delivered exactly what they advertised and more. My husband and I…read morestayed at this Inn while visiting our retirement property up in Two Harbors. This Inn sparkles with cleanliness! I notice details like baseboards, corners and shelves. Each railcar is decorated in a different theme. We stayed in the newly appointed Lighthouse Room. The lamps were shaped like lighthouses, the room was tastefully decorated with Lighthouse pictures and memorabilia, and the hallway that connects each railcar was built reminiscent of a rail yard and train station. When I called to make the reservation. I actually spoke with one of the owners. Cindy. She was personable and friendly. She is the epitome of a fantastic bed& breakfast-type Innkeeper. We met her at the Inn and she was funny and very welcoming. The food was good. They had your typical fare offered at most hotels. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star rating from me is I feel like they could develop a "trademark item" with their breakfast to go with the theme as well. The location is perfect for a quiet weekend or even a Northshore vacation. It's nestled in the wilderness and just a very short ride to Lake Superior. I highly recommend this Inn if you would like to relive some locomotive history!

It's just so much fun to stay here and bonus- you can watch local wildlife right from your window. Rooms were clean, and the managers offer a plethora of games and movies you can borrow- which is just fun! Be careful not to run in the halls though- it makes noise, and the managers will quell it immediately (which is a good thing, my kids just didn't realize it as I think we were the only ones staying there at the time.)

The young energetic general manager popped his collar and settled the score on a 30 man brawl out in the parking lot. He had four men on each arm and swiftly escorted them back to their rooms!! The club outside was jumping and the maintenance man was crawling around like he was on PCP. The housekeepers gave me a back alley deal like I've never seen before!! I returned from hiking up the North Shore my first (and only) night, ready to fall asleep and get up early the next morning for sunrise pics at Split Rock. The walls are thin, the floors creak, and doors slam shut. So from 8-around 1030, it was so noisy, then after that, I could hear conversations from the adjoining rooms. They weren't being "loud" the walls were just that thin. The bed was not very comfy. The sheets were scratchy. There was a single washcloth tucked up into the shower curtain ... clean? Not clean? I dunno. It stayed there. The access to parking coming from the North is a nightmare as the turning lane is also used by those accessing the left turn light and the lot is full of deep potholes that are hard to avoid. The driveway is also shared by McDonalds so it makes for a busy place. Customer service was good. Staff were friendly and courteous. Overall, just not worth the cost. Other places further up the North Shore were comparable in price, had more amenities, and were closer to many of the destinations.

The location is great with being about 5 minutes from Two Harbors, but in a serene wooden setting. The house/lodge is beautiful! The craftsmanship is lovely and the decor has a warm lodge feeling. The house has multiple common areas outside of your private room that you can play board games, play the piano, mingle or just enjoy the view from the gorgeous windows. Ron and Leah are the Innkeeper's and they are super friendly, sweet and knowledgeable about the area. We stayed in the King Romantic Suite. The room was very spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable! The large bathroom also had a two person jetted tub that we enjoyed. In addition, they had wine waiting for us in our room at no additional cost, so nice! The breakfast was delicious! Leah prepared peach stuffed crepes with a blueberry cream topping. The bacon...ohhh the bacon was soooo good! They prepare organic food and you can tell the difference! We also had yogurt, granola, fruit toppings, orange juice and coffee. You can tell they truly care and want their quests to have an enjoyable, relaxing time. Will stay again and will even get my parents a stay for their anniversary!
