The Northern Rail Traincar Inn delivered exactly what they advertised and more. My husband and I…read morestayed at this Inn while visiting our retirement property up in Two Harbors. This Inn sparkles with cleanliness! I notice details like baseboards, corners and shelves. Each railcar is decorated in a different theme. We stayed in the newly appointed Lighthouse Room. The lamps were shaped like lighthouses, the room was tastefully decorated with Lighthouse pictures and memorabilia, and the hallway that connects each railcar was built reminiscent of a rail yard and train station. When I called to make the reservation. I actually spoke with one of the owners. Cindy. She was personable and friendly. She is the epitome of a fantastic bed& breakfast-type Innkeeper. We met her at the Inn and she was funny and very welcoming. The food was good. They had your typical fare offered at most hotels. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star rating from me is I feel like they could develop a "trademark item" with their breakfast to go with the theme as well. The location is perfect for a quiet weekend or even a Northshore vacation. It's nestled in the wilderness and just a very short ride to Lake Superior. I highly recommend this Inn if you would like to relive some locomotive history!

This hotel is an absolute joy to stay in. Yes the rooms are extremely small, but of course you…read morewould expect that. It's just so much fun to stay here and bonus- you can watch local wildlife right from your window. Rooms were clean, and the managers offer a plethora of games and movies you can borrow- which is just fun! Be careful not to run in the halls though- it makes noise, and the managers will quell it immediately (which is a good thing, my kids just didn't realize it as I think we were the only ones staying there at the time.)

The young energetic general manager popped his collar and settled the score on a 30 man brawl out in the parking lot. He had four men on each arm and swiftly escorted them back to their rooms!! The club outside was jumping and the maintenance man was crawling around like he was on PCP. The housekeepers gave me a back alley deal like I've never seen before!! This was an unforgettable stay at the Country Inn of Two Harbors. Please add cappuccino machines like holiday I would be so grateful!!

I returned from hiking up the North Shore my first (and only) night, ready to fall asleep and get up early the next morning for sunrise pics at Split Rock. The walls are thin, the floors creak, and doors slam shut. So from 8-around 1030, it was so noisy, then after that, I could hear conversations from the adjoining rooms. They weren't being "loud" the walls were just that thin. The bed was not very comfy. The sheets were scratchy. There was a single washcloth tucked up into the shower curtain ... clean? Not clean? I dunno. It stayed there. The access to parking coming from the North is a nightmare as the turning lane is also used by those accessing the left turn light and the lot is full of deep potholes that are hard to avoid. The driveway is also shared by McDonalds so it makes for a busy place. Customer service was good. Staff were friendly and courteous. Overall, just not worth the cost. Other places further up the North Shore were comparable in price, had more amenities, and were closer to many of the destinations.

We had a fantastic time for the weekend! My friends won this place in an auction and it was…read moredefinitely worth it. We loved having a private balcony right on the lake. The jacuzzi tub was so nice after my morning workouts. The only small complaints I'd have is how hot the upstairs got especially the loft. Most of the windows did not open and only 1 of the 3 box fans worked. Also the dishwasher tended to make my dishes taste funny and smell like dirty dish rag. It may have been the all natural detergent they had. But over all loved it!!!! I also loved that we weren't bothered which is something that usually bugs me. The office answered promptly when I did have questions. They also allowed us to check in very late by placing our keys and such in a secure area.

Don't expect a/c, but, fans are supplied. 400 dollars a night I think deserves alittle more of these type of things. Maybe some of the other units are better as they are owned privately. This unit has real promise if they would spend a few bucks as they expect us to. Great location, access to the lake is easy, all in all not sure I'll be back at prime time, but you check it out for yourself, I'd recommend it at a lower price since up to 8 people can stay. The other plus is it is dog friendly. One caveat, bring a credit card, it's the only form of payment accepted. You might be up a creek without it. Or pack a tent. The staff is very friendly and overall the unit is clean. I would give 3 1/2 stars actually but for above mentioned items could be a 5!
