We decided to head up to the North Shore to chase the spring waterfalls and found an excellent deal for a room at Cove Point. Such a lovely inn. It is right on the lake and all the rooms have lake views. You can catch a gorgeous sunrise out your window in the morning. The staff does the best to make everyone feel welcome. There is a roaring fire going at almost all hours in the front room, with plenty of games and other entertainment. We played Yahtzee in front of the roaring fire after dinner. You can also wander outside for 's'mores around the fire pit. During the low season it is not easy to find meals so we ate at the hotel our first night. The bruschetta was amazing and we loved the stuffed walleye as well -both creative and delicious. Our server was amazing- I described her as the person you want on your team during the zombie apocalypse. Helpful, level headed and solution oriented. Breakfast is included with a lodge stay- wonderful Scandinavian style breakfast complete with pickled herring, and other items to fill you up for a day of hiking. It is also well located for visiting many of the Nprth Shore state and county parks. Perfect home base for our spring waterfall extravaganza. Two things would have made it even better- the two bed queen was tight. Fine for two unrelated people with each in their own bed but not a lot of space. also- I may be the only person wanting this- but an exercise room would be helpful. I am nursing a knee injury and do PT/yoga exercises twice daily and there was no space in the room. I know most folks get their exercise outdoors on the North shore but even a small dedicated space for inclement weather would be good. Overall, a wonderful stay. We would definitely stay again non future.

This is the type of place you'd expect to see in this area. Cute log cabin feel with some cute touch's. Bonfire in the back for guests to enjoy, all the items needed, for free, to roast yummy marshmallows or make a smore. Many trails right from the lodge to explore.

We spent Thanksgiving here as a family and could not have been more impressed! We even brought our pup! There was a wall dedicated to crayons, colored pencils and coloring pages for kids as well as endless cookies and s'more ingredients. We forgot there was an indoor pool and hot tub so we bought suits while visiting Grand Marais for the day. Fun walking trails out to the lake as well. Santa even made a surprise appearance! Highly recommend!

Clearly the best place to stay along the Norwegian Riviera, aka The North Shore. We have been going there every November for the past 5 years. We feel like it's our home away from home.

Nice weekend get away, charming, but very pricey during the peak season. Reminded me of The Great Northern in Twin Peaks if anyone watched that. I took my husband here for something different to do back when we were just dating. Let's just say you can the boy out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the boy. I understand why people like it up north. It's pretty, scenic and quiet. Just too quiet for us at that rate. Don't get me wrong, It's a very nice hotel all of the rooms face the lake. They have a charming little scandinavian breakfast in the morning. Herring, hard boiled eggs, cheese, tomatoes etc.Rooms are rustic and really going for the cabin-y feel but in a modern way. They have complimentary canoes and a nice size pool.

Gorgeous setting for certain. My husband surprised me with a weekend stay here for my birthday and it ended up being a half an evening stay due to the fire. We were in a fabulous room right beside the large focal fireplace and I'm thankful we all got out okay. I was a little irritated that with the wine reception they took a bit long to get more wine out for those of us that watched people pour over generous portions in their glass and leave nothing behind for the more courteous patrons. The owner was on site the evening of my stay and I already could tell she was "somebody" which I feel if you are going to hang out you could do double duty and introduce yourself and greet the guest. I was a tad irritated because after the fire we did not get an offer to stay in one of the cottages and other people did so we went back on the road and exhausted stayed at a crappy place on our own dime. I really thought somebody would reach out to the folks from this evening and send some type of promotional certificate to visit them again and make a new memory. The restaurant and food service was exceptional.

You can see your neighbor but you're not packed in their like some campsites without any trees. Each campsite had plenty of space with a picnic table and a fire pit. I was a little disappointed in the one car rule because there was so much space to fit two cars and two tents at one campsite. It seems more of a family oriented campground that would be great for kids. We don't have any, so the kids got a little annoying for us. Especially when they are playing and yelling outside at seven in the morning. The bathrooms and quarter operated showers are well kept, clean and aren't far from any of the tent sites. The office is adorable and has a decent selection of snacks and camping things, like fire firewood, if you forget anything. You can also rent kayaks and pontoons for the lake. I felt that the tent sites were a little on the higher side for a campground but understandably so being on a lake with full bathroom, showers and laundry.

No where on the website did they post this restriction. I would of never booked here. How cruel - I had 4 girls who were so excited to go swimming and down the water slide only to be told they couldn't go. The front desk checkin person was less than friendly, could not smile, and made me feel less than welcomed. When she told me about the water slide height restrictions I told her my frustration with not knowing this information and how disappointing it was because it is the ONLY reason we came here. She said they intentionally do not post it on their website. I talked to the "life guard" who stated the same thing and told me about many disappointed and upset guests who have stated the same. Upon checkin you also receive a business card size voucher for pool towels...what the reasoning is I don't know. The front desk is next to the pool entrance so why I need to carry cards to my room and settle in just to walk back to exchange them for towels seems ridiculous. The pool itself and hot tub are dirty on the bottom...needs a good cleaning but the kids didn't mind. The pool is only 4 feet deep so great for little ones minus the fact there is a giant water slide torturing them. There is a tot play area as well that 3 and under would find fun. The open breakfast was decent...bagels, toast, waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, cereals, yogurt, and fruit available. It was clean and in constant cleaning and restocking throughout the morning.

Our first day there we had a very tasty smoked salmon scrambled eggs with a cinnamon scone. The second day was a baked custard of sorts with blueberry capote, grapefruit and sausage links. Of course there was plenty of juice and coffee. My guy and I just loved the chocolate chip cookies that were always there for the taking, the endless supply of coffee and the warm and inviting atmosphere of the place.
