This Inn sparkles with cleanliness! I notice details like baseboards, corners and shelves. Each railcar is decorated in a different theme. We stayed in the newly appointed Lighthouse Room. The lamps were shaped like lighthouses, the room was tastefully decorated with Lighthouse pictures and memorabilia, and the hallway that connects each railcar was built reminiscent of a rail yard and train station. When I called to make the reservation. I actually spoke with one of the owners. Cindy. She was personable and friendly. She is the epitome of a fantastic bed& breakfast-type Innkeeper. We met her at the Inn and she was funny and very welcoming. The food was good. They had your typical fare offered at most hotels. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star rating from me is I feel like they could develop a "trademark item" with their breakfast to go with the theme as well. The location is perfect for a quiet weekend or even a Northshore vacation. It's nestled in the wilderness and just a very short ride to Lake Superior. I highly recommend this Inn if you would like to relive some locomotive history!

Rooms were clean, and the managers offer a plethora of games and movies you can borrow- which is just fun! Be careful not to run in the halls though- it makes noise, and the managers will quell it immediately (which is a good thing, my kids just didn't realize it as I think we were the only ones staying there at the time.)

We stayed for three nights last second booking a same day reservation now that these are managed by Odyssey Resorts (thanks, Jackie at the call center!). Plenty of space for two of us in this one-bedroom rental which had a master bed/bath on ground level as well as full kitchen, dinning, living room, and wood burning stove. Never turned the TV on but had a nice flat screen and plenty of DVDs, books, games. Best part was the giant private patio where we enjoyed our coffee and drinks most days. Charcoal grill at each cabin and communal fire pits. Had the windows open all day as weather was perfect in late July. Could hear the waves crashing against the shore. The lodge area has super friendly staff, more DVDs, maps of local area and hikes, as well as a pool, hot tub, bikes to rent, playground, and more. This property is perfectly located near tons of hiking and Lutsen Ski Resort. Since they're townhomes you are quite close to neighbors and foot traffic but all in all we had an amazing long weekend. Will be back!

We aren't great at planning ahead…read moreso we scramble to find a campground.t he state parks are always booked months in advance, so it's the small private campgrounds in the area we enjoy. This one is sitting right on the lax lake. Every campsite will have some sort of view of the lake with some trees but it is not heavily wooded. You can see your neighbor but you're not packed in their like some campsites without any trees. Each campsite had plenty of space with a picnic table and a fire pit. I was a little disappointed in the one car rule because there was so much space to fit two cars and two tents at one campsite. It seems more of a family oriented campground that would be great for kids. We don't have any, so the kids got a little annoying for us. Especially when they are playing and yelling outside at seven in the morning. The bathrooms and quarter operated showers are well kept, clean and aren't far from any of the tent sites. The office is adorable and has a decent selection of snacks and camping things, like fire firewood, if you forget anything. You can also rent kayaks and pontoons for the lake. I felt that the tent sites were a little on the higher side for a campground but understandably so being on a lake with full bathroom, showers and laundry.

Everything was absolutely amazing except for the showers :( We stayed in the main lodge and the staff were super welcoming and kind! Lots of games tucked on the side of the fireplace with DVD's if you wanted to watch or occupy your kiddos time. They also had some really great $5 DIY kits too like origami, DIY bath bomb kits, etc. I was pleasantly surprised that they also gave free s'more making kits you could have with a poker stick, chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmallows! There are two fire pits in the back but only one with a poker stick and woodpile. Thankfully there was someone out there before us so there were some embers left, enough to start a new fire. The bugs were atrocious though, thankfully we had bugs spray we could dose ourselves in or else it wouldn't have been worth it. The grounds itself were beautiful this time of year! You could easily walk around and entertain yourself that way but the large outdoor pool is heated too. There is also the option to use the indoor pool/hot tub but unfortunately no sauna. Indoor pool has a slide though that my grown husband quite enjoyed. The rooms themselves are spacious, looks like they were recently renovated with clean bathrooms. Like I mentioned, only issue is that the water pressure sucks. Our first night, I was showering and mid-way through the water just turned off. Like there was no water left, I hopped out and tried to rinse off my face in the sink and that didn't have any water either! I called the night security because it was after 10 and the front desk was closed & he said he'd take a look at it but water didn't come back for another 1/2 hr and even then the pressure was terrible. The few times we showered at night, we experienced low water pressure but not completely off again.

At my refusal of giving them the 50% deposit, months after the original booking, and informed them that I was splitting the cost of the room with everyone who was going and at this moment couldn't afford a $470.42 deposit. She immediately canceled my room and then posted it back online at triple the rate that they were going to originally charge. This hotel is a scam now, they got new owners a few weeks ago and are now trying to do everything they can to nickel and dime their customer. If you were loyal I would find another hotel to be loyal to.

The 'Motel' part of the name is a little more accurate, in terms of furnishings. For what it is though, Superior Ridge does a good job. They run a clean, relatively inexpensive operation here. The beds were a little too hard for my liking and the TV was tiny in a nostalgic way. Microwaves are available in the hallway. This is a kind of 'bare bones place to sleep, not somewhere you want to really hang out' kind of place. Personally, when I'm paying for a hotel I don't mind splurging a little bit more for a place that's a little plushier. I was surprised at first that they didn't have air-conditioning (though there were both electric baseboard heat and a gas fireplace), but it seems that's pretty standard practice for north shore hotels - at least the two we stayed in on this trip. This won't be a repeat-stay for me, since it's not really what I'm looking for when paying for a place to sleep, but if you're just looking for a place to crash and want to save a couple bucks, this is for you.

We stayed in a pet friendly Lake Home Guest Room, and the room itself was nice. It had a queen bed, a twin bed, a small refrigerator, a microwave, and a big bathroom. One thing to note is that the entrance to the neighboring guest room is right next to your door. We were lucky the first night and had no neighbors, but the second night we did and my dog barked at every footstep she heard. Next time, out of respect for our neighbors (and to give our dog more space) we'd probably opt for a pet friendly cabin instead. One nice thing about the guestroom is that you do have a view of the lake. Unfortunately, the restaurant was just okay. We ordered takeout for both dinner and breakfast, and while it was fine, nothing really stood out. I was really looking forward to using the pool, hot tub, and sauna. Sadly, the pool was closed during our stay. The hot tub was open, but I couldn't figure out how to keep the bubbles on, which was a bit of a letdown. The lodge does seem to offer great amenities like bonfire pits and s'mores, which we were excited about. Unfortunately, they weren't out while we were there. I know these are weather dependent, but the weather didn't seem that bad while we were there. The staff were incredible, everyone from the front desk to the restaurant were nice and accommodating to any request we needed.

We visited during the off-season, which was ideal. I'd imagine peak season might feel a bit too busy for us, especially since the lake view is from a shared backyard/patio space. I loved how this unit allows dogs but if you are traveling with a pet, keep in mind the layout is hotel-style. If your dog is sensitive to hallway noises or neighbors above and beside you, they might be prone to barking. Unfortunately, we found a bag of trash behind the door upon check-in that smelled like tobacco. We had to leave the windows open to air the place out, which was a bummer since it was freezing outside.

It's a small unit, big enough for just two people. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to cook a meal and plenty of kitchen ware. Electric stove and microwave are very well kept, nothing you would be afraid of cooking in. The living room was nicely situated to the fireplace and T.V. (Satellite, DVD player included). The bathroom was beautifully decorated. One downside was the drainage on the tub/shower, doesn't drain too quick. I love the location of this unit(north edge of the building) you can hear the crashing of the waves against the rocks, it reminded me of the ocean. However, the one downside of this location is it is on the lower level and next to an entrance, so it can be a bit noisy from other tenants. We reserved through Air-B-N-B and the owner was very pleasant to work with. Thank you so much for your condo and we look forward to future stays.
