Stayed here for a weekend in February and loved it! But there are some things to know!…read more If you are thinking that this is going to be a massive upscale resort, it's not. If you are expecting a spot up north that is cozy and has some charm, then this is the place! Our room was clean, had a queen bed, leather love seat, microwave, and mini fridge. The shower was nice but there is no door, meaning water gets on the bathroom floor and you need to place a towel. The tv reception was also going in and out during our stay. There is a large real fire place, breakfast and dinner spot (breakfast was very good!) free s'mores, games and DVD's and a small pool and hot tub(indoor) We truly enjoyed our stay!

Complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cookies are perfect for sitting in front of the fire or playing a game. We enjoy hiking all over the property and out to the point. We love how close it is to Tettegouche our favorite MN state park to hike. We also enjoy Gooseberry Falls which is close. Come back to the lodge for relaxing in the hot tub and sauna or pool. We eat in dinner in the dining room at least once during our stay. This weekend i had the Surf and Turf special which is basically the flat iron steak with added shrimp. It was delicious! One of the best steaks I've ever had, cooked perfectly for me. The broccoli, potatoes, shrimp complimented it perfectly! In the past I've had other specials, the walleye, the garden salad with maple vinaigrette, and all have been wonderful! Staff are friendly and helpful. Can't wait to come back for our next visit!

This Inn sparkles with cleanliness! I notice details like baseboards, corners and shelves. Each railcar is decorated in a different theme. We stayed in the newly appointed Lighthouse Room. The lamps were shaped like lighthouses, the room was tastefully decorated with Lighthouse pictures and memorabilia, and the hallway that connects each railcar was built reminiscent of a rail yard and train station. When I called to make the reservation. I actually spoke with one of the owners. Cindy. She was personable and friendly. She is the epitome of a fantastic bed& breakfast-type Innkeeper. We met her at the Inn and she was funny and very welcoming. The food was good. They had your typical fare offered at most hotels. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star rating from me is I feel like they could develop a "trademark item" with their breakfast to go with the theme as well. The location is perfect for a quiet weekend or even a Northshore vacation. It's nestled in the wilderness and just a very short ride to Lake Superior. I highly recommend this Inn if you would like to relive some locomotive history!

It's just so much fun to stay here and bonus- you can watch local wildlife right from your window. Rooms were clean, and the managers offer a plethora of games and movies you can borrow- which is just fun! Be careful not to run in the halls though- it makes noise, and the managers will quell it immediately (which is a good thing, my kids just didn't realize it as I think we were the only ones staying there at the time.)

The sink and mirror was in the bedroom area. There was a small deck off our 2nd floor room. The location was wonderful, right on the baptism river. At night, it was so quiet there that it was so peaceful to sleep with the patio door open. Where this place really shined was the breakfast and Lura the host. The food was absolutely wonderful. Our first day there we had a very tasty smoked salmon scrambled eggs with a cinnamon scone. The second day was a baked custard of sorts with blueberry capote, grapefruit and sausage links. Of course there was plenty of juice and coffee. My guy and I just loved the chocolate chip cookies that were always there for the taking, the endless supply of coffee and the warm and inviting atmosphere of the place. There were several nice couples there at the same time and we all dined together in the common area. It was nice to share our day plans and talk about what we saw and did while we were there. We spent 2 days hiking several parks on the north shore. We can't wait to return and perhaps try out a different room. The only thing I can think to improve upon is that the water pressure in our bathroom needed some help. We loved the 2 person tub but it took FOREVER to fill and showers were pretty low pressure as well. The bed was comfy and the little frig in our room was a nice added feature.

Pool was not clean, the amount of chlorine burned your eyes and you didn't even have to get in. Beds were awful, time for a chiropractic visit! Air conditioner blew gross dust and dirt all over, shower didn't drain, plumbing issues. Nothing was wiped down. House keeping was non-existent. Staff seemed like high school students trying to get school credit or something. So customer service and work ethic was not there if you get my drift. The entire place is outdated and dirty. Location is great but seriously, I would have paid $50 to sleep in my car in the parking lot and had the same experience. Shut this place down and start over, or lower your damn prices!!!

The pool area with 110' water slide is the reason I booked here. Be warned-you need to be 48" to go…read moreon the slide which is a fairly recent rule because back in the day there was no height restrictions. No where on the website did they post this restriction. I would of never booked here. How cruel - I had 4 girls who were so excited to go swimming and down the water slide only to be told they couldn't go. The front desk checkin person was less than friendly, could not smile, and made me feel less than welcomed. When she told me about the water slide height restrictions I told her my frustration with not knowing this information and how disappointing it was because it is the ONLY reason we came here. She said they intentionally do not post it on their website. I talked to the "life guard" who stated the same thing and told me about many disappointed and upset guests who have stated the same. Upon checkin you also receive a business card size voucher for pool towels...what the reasoning is I don't know. The front desk is next to the pool entrance so why I need to carry cards to my room and settle in just to walk back to exchange them for towels seems ridiculous. The pool itself and hot tub are dirty on the bottom...needs a good cleaning but the kids didn't mind. The pool is only 4 feet deep so great for little ones minus the fact there is a giant water slide torturing them. There is a tot play area as well that 3 and under would find fun. The open breakfast was decent...bagels, toast, waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, cereals, yogurt, and fruit available. It was clean and in constant cleaning and restocking throughout the morning.

You can see your neighbor but you're not packed in their like some campsites without any trees. Each campsite had plenty of space with a picnic table and a fire pit. I was a little disappointed in the one car rule because there was so much space to fit two cars and two tents at one campsite. It seems more of a family oriented campground that would be great for kids. We don't have any, so the kids got a little annoying for us. Especially when they are playing and yelling outside at seven in the morning. The bathrooms and quarter operated showers are well kept, clean and aren't far from any of the tent sites. The office is adorable and has a decent selection of snacks and camping things, like fire firewood, if you forget anything. You can also rent kayaks and pontoons for the lake. The nightly s'mores were a fun touch, and the pool and hot tub were relaxing, with a pretty walkway leading to them. Our room was comfortable, with cozy beds and extra bedding, which we appreciated. We loved that the main lodge had hot coffee and ice water available - as well as games and loves to check out! That said, the exterior is starting to show some age, with weeds throughout the grounds and overgrown bushes making the sidewalks feel crowded. A window on our room was broken and the indoor pool was out of commission. While the activities are a great perk, one was full before I could attend, and the yoga class I signed up for didn't have an instructor show up. Overall though, it was a relaxing and enjoyable stay and I'd happily come back again!
