We love to tent up in the north shore during fall colors season. We aren't great at planning ahead…read moreso we scramble to find a campground.t he state parks are always booked months in advance, so it's the small private campgrounds in the area we enjoy. This one is sitting right on the lax lake. Every campsite will have some sort of view of the lake with some trees but it is not heavily wooded. You can see your neighbor but you're not packed in their like some campsites without any trees. Each campsite had plenty of space with a picnic table and a fire pit. I was a little disappointed in the one car rule because there was so much space to fit two cars and two tents at one campsite. It seems more of a family oriented campground that would be great for kids. We don't have any, so the kids got a little annoying for us. Especially when they are playing and yelling outside at seven in the morning. The bathrooms and quarter operated showers are well kept, clean and aren't far from any of the tent sites. The office is adorable and has a decent selection of snacks and camping things, like fire firewood, if you forget anything. You can also rent kayaks and pontoons for the lake. I felt that the tent sites were a little on the higher side for a campground but understandably so being on a lake with full bathroom, showers and laundry.

They've really thought of the little touches too, like board games and a lending library of books and games at the base lodge, perfect for hanging out after dark. Be ready to walk if you don't get there right at check-in, you'll be hauling your gear up to your cabin, which can be a trek, and even after that there's a short walk down to the bathrooms or back to the parking since cars aren't allowed by the tents. Our room had two big beds and felt surprisingly spacious for "glamping." There are little flush porta-potties near the cabins, but the nicer restrooms and showers are in the main lodge. The staff are super friendly it really makes it feel like a comfy, elevated camping experience worth coming back to.

North Shore Camping Co has so much to offer. Being right across from their partner Cove Point,…read morevisitors are able to access the pool, spa and waterfront of Cove Point. North Shore offers secluded tents - glamping style - that are roomy and have their own fire pit. The tents also offer bear proof cabinets where you will keep all of your food. The base lodge has one stall bathrooms that also include a shower. Only downfall of the base lodge is that it can be farther away from your tent and it might be a hike to get there and back. North Shore also has saunas for guests to use. It doesn't stop there, north shore camping is placed in the best spot for anyone looking for adventure such as hiking, biking, and exploring the north shore. Let's also not forget about how amazing the staff is, not only to humans but how wonderful they treat the pups. If you're looking for somewhere new and fun to stay, check out North Shore Camping Co!

The owner actually went out of his way to cut down some tree branches that were blocking out camper from comfortably entering our spot which was very nice. Bathrooms were clean but the women's was often busy. Not much else you can expect during peak camping season however. Very nice and close access to the beach as well as a nearby candy store. This place is great if you're looking for a nice place in the two harbors/Duluth area, but not looking to raise wild shenanigans. The owner seems to strictly enforce the 10:00 quiet rule time, which was fine with us.

The $4 wood bundles were rather sparse, but two bundles sufficed per night for bonfire. Each primitive campsite for tents had a fire ring and picnic table. The sites were rather close together, separated by only a few trees and bushes. We hoped for a few good spots to set up hammocks, but only one set of trees was fitting for an ill-hung hammock. The pit toilet outhouses were outfitted with lights, hand sanitizer, and air fresheners, and so were better than many dirty typical outhouses elsewhere. Appreciated the no-need-to-check-in approach by the proprietors. RV spots available around the corner from primitive campsites. For $15 per night, this is a fair deal, but not necessarily a good set of accommodations for car campers who want a few of the added benefits of showers and more campsite privacy.

I'm giving this place a full 5 stars even though I have little basis for comparison. The bathrooms and showers were amazingly clean and new. the sites do not have electricity but our site was huge, we put 3 large tents up and could have fit a 4th. We also had private lake access. The lake access was rocky and very slippery! So it wasn't much for swimming but it meant we had a great canoe launch right at our site. We also rented a canoe @ $20 a day it was a nice deal. The campground has a full playground, center store and office where you can get forgotten necessities and a sandy boat launch. There is a swimming beach on the grounds but it may be a short walk. The site was $17 a night and they have nice elevated fire pits with a built in grill grate. The site is also on the edge of the boundary waters which means no motorized boats (to an extent) lots of quiet and plenty of wild life! We got close to lots of turtles, ground animals and lots of bald eagles!. The scenery was amazing, the sky is incredibly clear for star gazing at it's best. And for being so far north the lake was quite temperate and excellent for swimming and boating. I highly recommend this camp site for newbies like me and the other, more experienced campers, were also impressed.

To say they are pet-friendly would be an understatement. On arrival, it was like walking into a kennel - dogs barking from all directions, some off leashes. This went on the enire first day and night. As a dog lover, I was still annoyed, especially when the 430am rounds kicked in. We had the fan running, a noise machine & still got little sleep. The 2nd day was like being in a different campground... far more as expected. Yes, there were still dogs barking once in a while, but it wasn't nonstop and there weren't any roamers. We slept well the rest of our stay with one other downside. The position of the sewer hose connection - it had no threads and was sunken in too far, actually beliw the ground. This prevented us from having a secure connection - meaning we would get odor. We greatly enjoyed the privacy trees, night skies & convenient location. We still feel the pros outweigh the cons, friendly staff & the price is reasonable. We will stay again & will look at getting an adapter to help with the sewer issue... cuz ewww
