I would prefer a campground where the campsites are further apart. Public showers were available for $2 in quarters, but they were not luxurious by any standards. Small playground and volleyball court for kids to play. My mobile phone service is through AT&T and I had zero service in this area. My kids have service through T Mobile and somehow had access to data once in a great while.

The problem comes into play when who owns or does what. The host was unavailable after Fri before Labor Day, on. That presents a problem when campers who are only supposed to have 2 cars per site have 4, plus tow a boat so the driveway for all to share becomes clogged OR they actually park a 5th car right on the grass on your campsite. Why are those folks allowed to stay again? No drive-by review of sites or adherence to quiet times at night for families after 10pm by either host or on-site / live-in park ranger, although tribal police coming through every once in a while are aware of who handles what issues. The park doesn't handle issues, instead just takes your $. Makes for a not great stay. Its pretty much wild west, but doesn't present itself as such up front.

This one is sitting right on the lax lake. Every campsite will have some sort of view of the lake with some trees but it is not heavily wooded. You can see your neighbor but you're not packed in their like some campsites without any trees. Each campsite had plenty of space with a picnic table and a fire pit. I was a little disappointed in the one car rule because there was so much space to fit two cars and two tents at one campsite. It seems more of a family oriented campground that would be great for kids. We don't have any, so the kids got a little annoying for us. Especially when they are playing and yelling outside at seven in the morning. The bathrooms and quarter operated showers are well kept, clean and aren't far from any of the tent sites. The office is adorable and has a decent selection of snacks and camping things, like fire firewood, if you forget anything. You can also rent kayaks and pontoons for the lake. I felt that the tent sites were a little on the higher side for a campground but understandably so being on a lake with full bathroom, showers and laundry.

The shower house was clean and 5 minutes is just the right amount of time for a hot shower! it's only 25 cents! Close enough to the activity of the north shore but far enough away to relax! Located in the Northwoods of northern Wisconsin, the park's highlight is the Doughboy Trail, a well-developed two-mile loop that offers excellent views of both Copper Falls and Brownstone Falls. The trail is easy to follow, well-maintained, and includes several scenic overlooks. Because of its distance--several hours from cities like Madison--I recommend combining a visit with other Northwoods attractions. A great option is to stop here while exploring the Apostle Islands or the Bayfield area. Once inside the park, follow the main road past the ranger station until it ends at the parking lot, where you'll find restrooms and the Doughboy Trailhead. This is a beautiful park and well worth the stop, especially if you plan it alongside other northern Wisconsin adventures.

We were able to park easily and walk a short, fairly easy loop to reach the falls. The view of the waterfall was beautiful, though the trail itself isn't very shaded. Thankfully, the weather was mild during our visit, which made for a pleasant stop. Parking was plentiful, and the park overall felt accessible and well maintained. A worthwhile stop for an hour or so if you're exploring northern Wisconsin.

(Parks and Recreation also manages another campground, Kreher, for larger RVs. Kreher has 33 sites). Prentice Park is a first come, first served campground. No reservations are taken. There were many sites still available when we arrived on a Wednesday evening around 6 pm in late May. Tent sites are $20/night ($125/week), while electric sites are $35/night. There was a host on-site, and we were able to pay her directly. This is a nice, and well-maintained campground. Sites were flat and clear, with a picnic table and fire ring. We had some privacy because there were small trees between our site and the adjacent one. (Some sites were less private). Firewood was available. There are flush toilets and secure showers. (The showers are for campers only, and require a passcode. The bathroom is open to the public during the day but is locked at night (usable with passcode). The campground felt safe, given the host on site but also with occasional patrols by the local police. The campground is adjacent to Prentice Park, which has a pavilion, playground, another bathroom, 2 miles of hiking trails, and access to the Ashland Rails to Trails. There is also an artesian well on site for fresh water. There were a few small negatives. We were tent camping and, despite being a few miles from Rte. 2, we could hear some truck traffic from that road. The campground is inland, so there's no view of Lake Superior. (Kreher Campground has lakefront sites). Finally, like everywhere else in the great outdoors in northern Wisconsin in late May, there were some mosquitoes but they weren't overwhelming.
