Then, he continued the tradition with me my mom and siblings in 1964 until Hilda passed in (1972?). I never met Chris as I believe he had pass many years earlier. At that point, we continued vacations on Crystal Lake down the road at the Crystal Lake Resort until the mid 80's when that resort was eventually sold. I haven't been back since, but the memories I have are magical. Great, crystal clear lake with lots of fish. I hope to get back there someday to see how things have changed.

Oddly enough, before they were seated they were told by the bartender that it would be impossible to order appetizers at the bar and they had to wait until they were seated. Wouldn't even allow them to be ordered and paid for at the bar, which I found a bit strange. I have not been here on a late night and maybe they do bands or dances or something like that which would explain the open/wasted space inside. Lastly, they are a resort and it appears that they prefer resort traffic over the local or local cabin traffic.

Stayed in a different cabin each trip, and both the cabins were modern and clean. The staff is also outstanding, and the owners, John and Maria, made us feel at home on all of our trips. The food at the lodge/restaurant is also outstanding. May seem a bit pricey, but, for the quality of the food and the portions you get, it's definitely worth the price! In August, we also rented a pontoon from the resort. Was reasonably priced for the day and had a blast on it. If you haven't stayed here yet, or are a local who has yet to try the restaurant, please do so! Absolutely amazing! Will definitely be back in 2018 for a trip or two! And for us, living 7 hours away near Chicago, it's definitely worth the drive as well for a long weekend.

This time around, I just have to say: Paul Bunyan Resort was the best two weeks I've spent at a vacation spot in a very long time! Being from Northern California, seeing water and green plants everywhere is breathtaking alone. I arrived just as fishing-season was underway, with boats gearing up to motor across the water. Lots of times, I just stood out on one of the many docks, overlooking the beautiful lake. The city of Rice Lake itself has a wonderful selection of shops and stores to fulfill your everyday needs. And a great plus is how quiet whole the place is. The noise from outside my front door in the Bay Area is deafening when compared to the outside the front door of Paul Bunyan Resort's #2 cabin, "Flap Jack". In addition, the #2 cabin was a surprisingly large accommodation, equipped with a full bathroom, kitchen, bedroom (with 2-full sized beds, and a separate walk-in closet), and living room. Barry and Julie, the owners of the resort, were so kind, readily available, and accommodating of any question or need that I had during my stay, as usual. Their service to the resort is top-notch! Waking up to a sunrise over the lake was a view to be had each day. Such blessings. And seeing a nighttime lightning show directly over the lake was an unexpected treat that lasted for hours. The playground on the resort was tempting to play on, but as an adult, I know better =( So therefore, I allowed the kids there that privilege =) All in all, this is a great place for a family to kick back, and relax their feet for a while. Through good weather, or bad, at any time of the year, Paul Bunyan Resort has always had me covered for any needs I may have had. To anyone considering a trip out to (or through) Rice Lake, WI, I highly recommend a pit stop for a few days (or weeks!) to see this place for yourselves. I guarantee you'll have a great time!
