The trail is easy to follow, well-maintained, and includes several scenic overlooks. Because of its distance--several hours from cities like Madison--I recommend combining a visit with other Northwoods attractions. A great option is to stop here while exploring the Apostle Islands or the Bayfield area. Once inside the park, follow the main road past the ranger station until it ends at the parking lot, where you'll find restrooms and the Doughboy Trailhead. This is a beautiful park and well worth the stop, especially if you plan it alongside other northern Wisconsin adventures.

The lodge smells like the homemade waffle cones they make every day for the plethora of ice cream flavors they have! (and change daily, which makes it easy to get a cone every single day!) Some of my favorites have been Lemon Cheesecake and Mackinac Island Fudge. The lodge also has arcade games, pool, souvenirs, toiletries and some food, a playground just behind it, and they offer mini train rides for kids twice a day! It's kept very clean and they recently redid the path leading up to the lodge, so it looks very nice. Our family usually rents a trailer camper from the campground, so when we arrive it is all set up for us, and the campground takes care of emptying the waste tank a few times a week! It is such a convenient system that makes our trip that much more enjoyable. :) The campground is dog friendly, which is a very nice plus! They have a number of sites on the water, as well as lots that are tucked away just off of it. The campground has a very nice beach with paddle board and water bike rentals, as well as lily pad mats and rolling log toy in the water! A very kid-friendly place as well. They have a miniature golf course, and golf carts and Italian bikes for rental too. I really REALLY appreciate how clean the bathroom and shower facilities are always kept. It's so nice to be able to use a clean bathroom and take a nice shower in the middle of a camping week. They also have laundry facilities which have been nice to use if things have gotten especially dirty or wet. The Chippewa Flowage is a huge and great lake with so many opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming, and other water activities. Many of my favorite memories growing up were made at this campground!

The walk-in sites in general are all amazing, you're secluded from everyone else but still close to the amenities. Site 83 is about a 4-minute walk from where you park your car. There are two tent pads and plenty of space. It's a beautiful site--book it early! The amenities at the campground were great, plenty of places to recycle, fill up water, and throw out trash. The bathrooms are also very nice, but they are some of the busiest bathrooms I've ever seen! There are plenty of hiking trails as well, a great visitor center and gift shop, and it is an all around lovely state park.

STATE PARK: 5/5 We loved walking a bit of the state park over the weekend! The suspension bridge is super cool, and it's really fun to walk on and explore the unique rock formations along the water.

The staff are all extremely rude and have zero customer service. Im not sure if it was a caretaker or just an employee, but he stayed in a tent on the camp ground and act as camp police ensuring that there was no fun to be had... this means, no music, talking/laughing "loud" ... and this was all before their weekend quiet hours of 10:30. Honestly it was ridiculous. Also their tubing rental is a joke. Dont waste your time or money on their lacking operation. Do yourself a favor and go down to Jacks Tubing or Log Cabin... you will have a WAY better time.
