Because of its distance--several hours from cities like Madison--I recommend combining a visit with other Northwoods attractions. A great option is to stop here while exploring the Apostle Islands or the Bayfield area. Once inside the park, follow the main road past the ranger station until it ends at the parking lot, where you'll find restrooms and the Doughboy Trailhead. This is a beautiful park and well worth the stop, especially if you plan it alongside other northern Wisconsin adventures.

I'm not super experienced at camping, but the campsites felt quite close together to me. Compared to other places we've been, the sites are much less private. STATE PARK: 5/5 We loved walking a bit of the state park over the weekend! The suspension bridge is super cool, and it's really fun to walk on and explore the unique rock formations along the water.

We also used them to rent canoes and it was top notch. Fast and efficient drop off and pickup. River was beautiful. Be sure to check out the little store for some good T-shirt and mitten options! The staff are all extremely rude and have zero customer service. Im not sure if it was a caretaker or just an employee, but he stayed in a tent on the camp ground and act as camp police ensuring that there was no fun to be had... this means, no music, talking/laughing "loud" ... and this was all before their weekend quiet hours of 10:30. Honestly it was ridiculous. Also their tubing rental is a joke. Dont waste your time or money on their lacking operation. Do yourself a favor and go down to Jacks Tubing or Log Cabin... you will have a WAY better time.
