Great location on Lake Superior. Your experience depends on…read morewhat site you have and what you are comfortable with. I know you can say that about all campgrounds, BUT this one has sites that are really packed close together with water access and others that are in a field across the road from the beach... neither is ideal in our mind. There is a highway close by like all the reviews mention. It wasn't loud from our site, but when we walked the campground it was loud in other parts. We did take note on what sites we would stay in if we went again. I would tell you but then we'd never be able to book them. This is a busy place that is hard to get into even for the not so great sites... That being said, there wasn't people noise. Everyone was quiet and respectful. Fun activities nearby: Hiked to town on the trail to visit the lighthouse. Rented a kayak at the beach and paddled to the lighthouse. Dog swam and froze to death in the lake... Lots of rocks to pick. Everyone is agate searching.

We love to tent up in the north shore during fall colors season. We aren't great at planning ahead…read moreso we scramble to find a campground.t he state parks are always booked months in advance, so it's the small private campgrounds in the area we enjoy. This one is sitting right on the lax lake. Every campsite will have some sort of view of the lake with some trees but it is not heavily wooded. You can see your neighbor but you're not packed in their like some campsites without any trees. Each campsite had plenty of space with a picnic table and a fire pit. I was a little disappointed in the one car rule because there was so much space to fit two cars and two tents at one campsite. It seems more of a family oriented campground that would be great for kids. We don't have any, so the kids got a little annoying for us. Especially when they are playing and yelling outside at seven in the morning. The bathrooms and quarter operated showers are well kept, clean and aren't far from any of the tent sites. The office is adorable and has a decent selection of snacks and camping things, like fire firewood, if you forget anything. You can also rent kayaks and pontoons for the lake. I felt that the tent sites were a little on the higher side for a campground but understandably so being on a lake with full bathroom, showers and laundry.

They've really thought of the little touches too, like board games and a lending library of books and games at the base lodge, perfect for hanging out after dark. Be ready to walk if you don't get there right at check-in, you'll be hauling your gear up to your cabin, which can be a trek, and even after that there's a short walk down to the bathrooms or back to the parking since cars aren't allowed by the tents. Our room had two big beds and felt surprisingly spacious for "glamping." There are little flush porta-potties near the cabins, but the nicer restrooms and showers are in the main lodge. The staff are super friendly it really makes it feel like a comfy, elevated camping experience worth coming back to.

The hike from the parking lot and office was up a long, steep, rocky, dusty, eroded trail that apparently had never been graded. Then there was a tall flight of homemade stairs up to the tent. The hike down to the toilet box or office toilet was tough enough to discourage me from using it. The worst aspect was the continual, all-night, loud traffic noise from nearby Highway 61. I went up there hoping for some peace and quiet but got more noise than I get here in St. Louis Park. I was happy to leave after three days. At least the camp was set amid a very nice pine forest. Some day, those old very trees will fall on a tent or go up in a major fire. I am highly experienced with mountain backpacking and BWCA canoe camping but at 75 years of age I was looking forward to sleeping on a real bed. In summary, the tent was much nicer than the overall camp and its location.

We rented one of the little cabins which was just perfect to charge our phones and sleep in a bunk and not the ground. The restaurant on the campground was so good and so fun!! I learned so much and the new owners are the kindest, most genuine business owners I've met in so long. They are doing so much to make this campground a great place for the community. I learned a lot, had a great beer and the wings that tasted heavenly after a week of backpacking food. (and ice cream too!) There's a place to refill in town. The campground is too far to hike to in my opinion, but it's easy to get rides. The owners even drove us to the trailhead. There's a place to refill in town. Finland was wonderful. I hope to come back.
