Lax Lake Resort - Breakfast on the shores of Lax Lake

We love to tent up in the north shore during fall colors season. We aren't great at planning ahead…read moreso we scramble to find a campground.t he state parks are always booked months in advance, so it's the small private campgrounds in the area we enjoy. This one is sitting right on the lax lake. Every campsite will have some sort of view of the lake with some trees but it is not heavily wooded. You can see your neighbor but you're not packed in their like some campsites without any trees. Each campsite had plenty of space with a picnic table and a fire pit. I was a little disappointed in the one car rule because there was so much space to fit two cars and two tents at one campsite. It seems more of a family oriented campground that would be great for kids. We don't have any, so the kids got a little annoying for us. Especially when they are playing and yelling outside at seven in the morning. The bathrooms and quarter operated showers are well kept, clean and aren't far from any of the tent sites. The office is adorable and has a decent selection of snacks and camping things, like fire firewood, if you forget anything. You can also rent kayaks and pontoons for the lake. I felt that the tent sites were a little on the higher side for a campground but understandably so being on a lake with full bathroom, showers and laundry.

The shower house was clean and 5 minutes is just the right amount of time for a hot shower! it's only 25 cents! Close enough to the activity of the north shore but far enough away to relax! Stayed here for a weekend in February and loved it! But there are some things to know!…read more If you are thinking that this is going to be a massive upscale resort, it's not. If you are expecting a spot up north that is cozy and has some charm, then this is the place! Our room was clean, had a queen bed, leather love seat, microwave, and mini fridge. The shower was nice but there is no door, meaning water gets on the bathroom floor and you need to place a towel. The tv reception was also going in and out during our stay. There is a large real fire place, breakfast and dinner spot (breakfast was very good!) free s'mores, games and DVD's and a small pool and hot tub(indoor) We truly enjoyed our stay!

Complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cookies are perfect for sitting in front of the fire or playing a game. We enjoy hiking all over the property and out to the point. We love how close it is to Tettegouche our favorite MN state park to hike. We also enjoy Gooseberry Falls which is close. Come back to the lodge for relaxing in the hot tub and sauna or pool. We eat in dinner in the dining room at least once during our stay. This weekend i had the Surf and Turf special which is basically the flat iron steak with added shrimp. It was delicious! One of the best steaks I've ever had, cooked perfectly for me. The broccoli, potatoes, shrimp complimented it perfectly! In the past I've had other specials, the walleye, the garden salad with maple vinaigrette, and all have been wonderful! Staff are friendly and helpful. Can't wait to come back for our next visit!

They've been around a while, or the cabins wouldn't be so close to the water. You couldn't build a resort so close to the shore nowadays. But way back when, Bob (yes, there was a Bob) built these small, humble, unassuming little pieces of paradise, and you get to enjoy them. The website is clear: the cabins are clean, spare, with some couches and/or easy chairs depending on the cabin, with a simple but entirely adequate kitchen. Really, it's all about the lake. You get to be right on Lake Superior, whether it's glassy or roaring, and you get to take it all in. As luck would have it, the owners are charming as well, friendly and easily available. My only reluctance in writing this review is that it make it harder to make a reservation. It's that good.

For the price, this place is very average…read more Pros: Good location right on the water. Almost no traffic noise from Hwy 61. Higher quality look and feel of the buildings. Cons: Very high price compared to most lodging options in the area. Bed mattress is very firm. There is a thin layer of pillow top, but it is well broken down. I had a back ache both early mornings, waking up well before I wanted to. The ironing board is one of those mini ones with a dirty old cover. Although there were wine glasses, there was no cork screw in the room. Although there are big candles in the bathroom there is no matches provided to light them. The s'mores kit we were provided had stale marshmallows. One of the bathroom sink bowls had some kind of unsightly chemical damage. In-room TV is small (20") and low quality. Refrigerator froze our milk solid. I'd be fine with the issues of this place, if the price was lower. For the price they are charging, none of these cons should exist.

Overall, I would stay here again. I love Two Harbors and the entire area. It's much better than going to Lake Tahoe bc there's little to no traffic & Lake Superior is the biggest freshwater lake in America.
